Hi, all. I have listened to my Sunday radio programs and am now ready to start my day. I am so happy that I did my errands yesterday. Today, the world is white. Completely white sky, white falling out of the sky, white on trees, cars and the ground. When I shop in the snow or rain, the packages get wet and I have to spread them out and wait for them to dry properly before I store them in the plastic containers, and I'm happy not to have to do that.

I hope that church went well, and that your DH is not too grumpy about natural consequences of his last night's choices, Kittkatt.

I've never tried the experiment, FrenchFly, but I think the dog food would have frozen and then burst the cans and tetra packs, FrenchFly. I'm not sure what the temperature was last night, but it was below freezing.
I didn't know that you also have the problem of people stealing copper wiring. I was baffled as to why our fibre optic service kept going out in rural areas, as it almost never goes out in the city where I live. It turns out, it was thieves cutting the wire thinking that it was copper. It was happening in more than one province.

Those cookies do look wonderful, trissie, but a lot of pressure on top of parents' other responsibilities. Do you recruit your teenagers to help with Christmas cookie baking?

You will never lose the delight in Christmas with DD32 to keep it all fresh for you, L.Ann. My only decoration is a poinsettia, which is cheerful. I don't really want to acquire a lot of decorations and then have to store them all year, so I'll probably keep mine pared down and just enjoy the neighbourhood Christmas lights.

That sounds like a fun way to help your dsister out, Lauralind. She can figure out which elements to pare down or skip entirely to help the students get finished during her class.

helia, I loved your disclaimer about your dh's information about cookies. I expect that he is more aware of where food comes from than many men, as he actually cooks, but cookies might still be a subject about which he is particularly aware, LOL.

I like the idea of a warm up for tomorrow, Bama. Last week I coasted into laziness. Time to get inertia going in the other direction.
There's a fireplace channel on TV, so you can have the coziness of the fire without the actual fire, and now that you have mentioned fireplaces, I think that this would be a good day for it.

I don't dare predict what I will work on because I always do the opposite. I am hoping for a phone visit with my db. He is planning to adopt a cat today! I'm sad for Schrodinger that the Cat Distribution System failed to deliver him to my db while he was between cats, but happy for my db that he is ready to love another cat.

Doggedly ~ a new kitty ~ how sweet! I haven't been lazy, but I definitely need to get into a more focused productivity than a haphazard approach. I try.. but things go awry.
Bama ~ Tell me about tomato gravy. It's new to me.

Bama, I am right there with you making substitutes on brunch. Planned breakfast was potatoes and winter vegetables in the microwave with no seasoning so that I could share with the dog. But after half an hour on my feet with no food started, breakfast became what is quick and easy. I'm not ready to face jollof rice for breakfast, but somewhere out there a food purist is sobbing into their hankerchief: naan bread, black lentil curry spread all over it, sliced tomato, lettuce pieces and a few squirts of lemon juice. It turned out quite well.
I have some dishes air drying and some soaking, so a gentle coast toward productivity has begun...

Smile*Lee, you are juggling multiple households, and I'll bet that they don't all wait their turn for your attention. You are doing great.
I am curious about tomato gravy too.

Went down to car and brought up the dog food that I forgot in the previous load so that it doesn’t freeze

Checked tshirts. Put away the dry and spread some more around the apartment to dry better.

Breakfast was good, and surprisingly filling. Time to lurch back into action until inertia favours coasting.

Ha! Ikwym. I have a few peculiar things from my childhood, like banana & Miracle Whip on white bread. I get a craving for it a few times a year.

Not so quick spiff done. Going to take a break, eat a bit, and do a little desk stuff.

FFB, I also have that love / hate relationship with Christmas. I'm going to confess that I now have my little "Christmas book" where I have *everything* written down, so I can treat it like military campaign.

Trissie, I love hearing about all your different cookies and the history behind them. Iirc, you also make wasp nest cookies too, or is that for a different time of year? My gingerbread men are very traditional. I use a cutter so they're the right shape, and then add currant "eyes" and also 3 currant buttons down their fronts. I don't ice them, as I think that detracts from the ginger flavour and makes them too sweet. ( I'm also lazy!) Sometime over the next week or so I'll make mince pies (the "mincemeat" in these is actually made from dried fruit, not meat! ) and with the Christmas cake that will be it, unless I get a sudden desire to try anything new! We also have a big tin of assorted chocolates over Christmas. Traditionally this was always Quality Street, but the tins have been getting smaller, then changed to a plastic tub and got smaller, with less variety and more expensive. The final straw was last year when the tub got even smaller, even more expensive and the wrappers changed from exciting and shiny to boring dull paper. (I think this last is probably a nostalgia thing, but it's still important!). This year, the QS tub had nearly doubled in price, and M& S saw a gap in the market, and produced their large "traditional" tin, complete with the favourite varieties and shiny wrappers, and at around half the price. M&S's chocolate is usually good, so I've taken the plunge.

L.Ann, since we adopted Matilda, Ive scaled back on decorations too. She is both a climber and a chewer!

Helia, traditional gingerbread cookies are easy. I have a cutter for my gingerbread men, but you could do any shape you wanted. All my Christmas baking keeps well in airtight tins, but I keep the different types in separate tins.

Today we had a lovely Advent Sunday service, and the first candle on the advent wreath was lit. DF E was once again in fine form when I visited her for coffee.

The lunch menu was roast chicken, roast potatoes, roast carrots and parsnips, creamed leeks, Savoy cabbage, followed by apple crumble and cream. Freddie has had his walk, I picked up a few leaves in my front garden and folded and PA laundry.

This afternoon I've sent some emails re parish lunch - just some last minute details- and watched Poirot. I still need to complete the form Curate S gave me to critique her sermon this morning. Bit that will have to wait until a certain Tabby Tyrant gets off my lap!
