Our cold temps are almost over for a little bit. We are back to the 50F tomorrow, 60F's on Tuesday and in the 70F by end of the week.
I took DD14 to catch the bus to go on a short trip to see Christmas lights in city with her friends. After I dropped her off I realized that I hadn't given her any money so had to double back and do that. I'm not sure how many hours they will be there so I took a guess how much she would need. The place has camel rides, carriage rides, ice skating, some carnival type rides and food vendors so there are many opportunities to spend.
DGS18 is making good time. His eta is 1 hour.
Blessings experienced today -
** DS17 and GF are cleaning his bedroom without any involvement from me.
** Being indoors because of cold weather reminded me how much i enjoy being outside in above freezing weather.
** The joy of teens wanting to talk and have me involved in their lives. #TreasuredMoments
Stay curious. Challenge assumptions. Success loves persistence.
When life gets difficult, learn to sing & dance in the rain.
I've never done that (water dripping) and sometimes we get really cold, even for us. (Usually in February)
I've been working away at the dishes/pots/pans/large utensils slowly and the end is in sight. Dishwasher is loaded and ready to get turned on as soon as dh is finished in the shower. I guess I could go make the bed because the sheets are dry.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.
Hello, everyone! It's Monday morning here, and I'm enjoying (from a safe distance! ) reading about all the very cold weather. It seems like a different world - over here it's currently 11C /52F and raining, and I am *very* grateful that we have *rain * and not *snow*, even though I would like to see some blue skies!
Ive heard about leaving a tap dripping in very cold weather, but never done it myself, as the house is warm and the coldest we usually get is about -5C. (I do remember we went down to -10 C once year, and that was An Event!) Of course, we're right in the mild SW of the UK, and it does get considerably colder further north, especially in Scotland!
Yesterday was church with an infant baptism (lovely!) then I cooked roast chicken for lunch, with apple crumble for dessert. In the afternoon / evening I had a little time in my garden, took Freddie for a short walk, went for my own short walk and spent a little time working on my photo project
Today, DH has left for the office, I need to do some housework and some present wrapping, MJ is coming to hopefully fix the dining table and DNeighbour S is hopefully going to finish painting our side of his fence (if it stops raining!).
I bet the city is just beautiful, Twins. Here, it is bright and sunny and COLD. VERY COLD. Happy Hanukkah!
And it sounds like your dd will have a great time with her friends, LadyM -- so much to do! There's a town close by that has a lot of stuff like that to do; I should take dgrands. WHEN it warms up a little. I don't think we're going to see 70 degrees, but it should start warming up a little tomorrow.
I do have my faucets dripping -- Cathy, I saw where you said you never did that. Is your house on a slab or a crawl space? That might make a difference. I have a crawl space, and I am pretty sure the vents are not closed -- they should be, but I sure didn't want to go out and check that today! I don't think we have ever had frozen pipes, but I've heard of plenty people in this area who have, and it's a big mess when they burst. But a friend who is in the HVAC business told me it was no worry if the temperature just dropped below freezing one night and back up to comfortable temps in the day time; he said he would only be concerned when we had long periods of below freezing weather.
It's 16/feels like 9 according to my weather app (1:00 a.m.) and says it will be 13 at 7:00 a.m. I am sooo sooo glad I don't have to get up and go to school. BUT it also says it will be 38 by noon, so there is hope, LOL! It will be freezing again tomorrow night, but it looks like warmer weather will be here by Tuesday. I'm watching a blizzard on Daniel Boone right now. The people of Boonesburg are facing a blizzard, starvation, and an Indian attack. We don't know how to be thankful in our nice homes with central heat and good highways.
Nancy! I'm so glad the dog stopped when you screamed! Dogs are one reason I don't walk outdoors more often. Back when dh walked a LOT, he carried a telescopic pointer with him sometimes. It didn't extend very long, but he thought it would help if dogs got after him. He was walking 8 miles at one time, and he did run into some dogs.
Mystery, I am kinda in the same situation as you. My Sunday School class had a party tonight and I just didn't want to go... partly because it would be all couples (except maybe one other lady) and I just still feel, as my sister-in-law put it, like a third wheel... and partly because it is so COLD.
But now I feel guilty -- I'm in a text thread with the ladies in my Sunday School class and first, I ignored the request to let the hostess know who was coming. Now they're all texting her telling her what a great time they had and thanking her.
Harriet and Nancy can probably relate to this --
I just didn't want to go -- dsisil offered to let me go with them, and then this morning, another friend in class offered to come pick me up and let me go with her and her husband. I just told them I wasn't really ready to go to a party. I've been active in church in lots of ways, just not like this -- a party at someone's house, where it seemed like everyone was part of a couple.
I've just been so emotional this past week or so. I guess it's because Christmas is coming... and this weekend marked 20 months since he died -- the 12th was on Friday just like it was that weekend, and I've sorta been reliving that whole weekend in my head. I was a little afraid I'd get there and start crying because being with all those couples would make me miss dh more, you know. But then part of me thought, they've gone out of their way to include me, and maybe I should go. The hostess' sister would be there and she is single... and she even asked me today if I was coming. So I'm thinking, did I stay home because I'm emotional, or did I stay home because I have social anxiety and I'm just a hermit. So I'm sad I didn't go and I'm sad to think about being there with all those happy couples, people who are unaware of how quickly life can change in an instant.
I ate a bowl of stew that I had frozen from Labor Day... sooo good. And I napped a little. I kept DGD while DS, ddil, and DGS went to the football banquet. That was earlier in the afternoon; they were home before the party started.
I will probably see both ladies tomorrow night at a council meeting at church. I may tell them a little bit about where my head is right now. Now that I think about it -- the hostess and her husband have both been lost spouses as well. I'm sure she will understand too.
They've all been so nice to me, in my Sunday School class. I don't really feel "close" to any of them, but they are all super nice to me, I just keep thinking, it's been over a year now; people expect me to be doing better.
Cathy, at one time, my dh kept the AC waaay too cold for me. Then dh started taking blood thinners, and suddenly, he was cold all the time, and like you, the bedroom was waaay too hot for me.
It's almost 3:00 a.m. and as usual, I've "talked" too much. I will just say hello to everyone (Ha! and good morning, LOL.) Hope you all have a great start to the week when you awake on Monday.
