LAnn, I’ve never heard of a brown cowbird, only white ones here, if it’s the same one we have here that ride on cows.

Laura, I’m new to learning about blended families. Our first round didn’t go so well but dd has moved on from him so this year was more like I’m used to, although we did spend Christmas morning with dd2 at home and then have to drive 4 hours to see dd1 that evening bc she had to work. It worked out well thankfully. Hope yours does too as you maneuver it all.

lauralind, Epiphany is when a lot of countries do the gift giving, so it's great that your family gift-giving fell on that date! After all, it was the wise men who brought the gifts!

helia, I work part time and I start early - 7:30 to 2pm (or so... usually I don't get there before 8am and then leave at 2:30), so there's that!
Bama, yes, it's 8pm here now, but the kids are far from bedtime. I just brought DS back from his scout session which ran till 7:30 and we are gonna have dinner in a bit (baked salmon - so I couldn't really do it in advance)

But I am really ready for the day to be over - I think I'll do one proper :50 after dinner, and then one shorter, which will include :15 on resistance band exercise, and be done.

You are so right, helia. The few times that we can tie the effects to the chemicals that we are exposed to are just the tip of the iceberg. In Sept-Iles in NE Quebec, my db told me about a home for the mentally handicapped that was the result of a lawsuit against the province. The province dropped pesticide from airplanes to treat the trees and a high number of children born that year had profound handicaps. It was somewhere between 8 and 12 children, which for such a small community was a high enough percentage that it couldn't be overlooked. The parents had to fight it out with the province, but the result was that the province will provide the care for the affected children for their lives. I worked with a young woman from a smaller community in Quebec who had the healthiest lifestyle you could imagine. She died in her late 20s of a brain tumor, and she believed that it was from the chemicals spread from the planes to protect the trees in her area, but there's no way to know for sure.
I don't worry about it personally, as we have always done this to ourselves. When I was young, we were putting asbestos everywhere in our houses. When I was younger, we were painting our houses with lead paint and putting lead in our cars' gas. Before that, there was a fad for radium products. The Romans were awash in lead. If I remember correctly, it was in their water. So I just view the centenarians as an aberration and not a goal, LOL.

I can well imagine the fun that you are having with your feeder, L.Ann. That is wonderful. And your weather sounds wonderful too. I think that it is headed my way tomorrow, so tomorrow will be Errands Day. Unfortunately, it looks like the warmer weather is coming with rain, but a girl can dream.

Bama, you are a humane and responsible pet owner to recognize that being too hot can be as miserable for a dog as being too cold. At least those of us who live in the north can put clothes on our naked dogs. It's a lot harder to cool a dog down.
How did you get Woody past his resource guarding? Dogs don't usually mature out of that. If anything, they are likely to get worse, so your strategy must have been a good one.

I am up to the end of Page 2. Time to go wash my hair, if Germane can be persuaded to move to her nice dog bed in the main room instead of her bed in the bathroom.

I am delighted to see that the vendor has agreed to replace the item I never got when my parcel went missing. I don't think that I ever mentioned what it was. It's a projector that can display from an offline source like a traditional DVD player, or it can work directly from wifi. I want to look at alternatives to my excellent but expensive internet/TV service to something cheaper. And that will probably mean getting the TV from other sources, like directly from CBC's web site, maybe Britbox, etc. This mini projector can be set up where it works best, not where it is tethered to the computer. And it's a fun toy for someone who loves gadgets, LOL.

helia, there's a commercial that always makes me laugh and think of you. It's for Apple watch, and it has people jogging and being pursued through the streets by their easy chair or their bed. I always think that you must feel like that some times.

Hello everyone!

Dogged and Trissie , DF E grew up in poverty in the north of England . She was the eldest of 5 children, and,.as a baby, she wasn't expected to survive. The first place the family lived there were no indoor facilities, so there were many frequent trips across a courtyard (with the light of a candle for night trips). Things got a lot better when they moved into local authority housing, with indoor plumbing and rudimentary central heating. I think E's generation were brought up with the expectation of hard work if you wanted to get on in life. On the plus side, there were lots of opportunities for bright children from poor families (scholarships and assisted places, and help with uniform costs). E was also fortunate as both her parents valued education, so she was encouraged to read and study, and after WW 2 was able to go to college and train as a teacher. She ended up as deputy head of a large primary school.

I think also that E's generation saw the NHS at its finest. If you were unwell (or your child was sick) you no longer needed to worry about finding the money to pay the doctor. Healthcare and sanitation improved, and E"S generation still ate "real food". But, of course, infant mortality was a lot higher when she was young, and antibiotics were in their infancy.

E herself says she owes her long life to "a tot of Bailey's " in her morning coffee, and "being lazy", so I'll let everyone draw their own conclusions!

L.Ann you certainly have plenty of "visitors " to your bird feeder.

Helia, you're right about the ice. I had a lovely time in my garden -the patio was dry and the lawn was damp (not frozen). But there were icy patches on the border (not a problem, as I don't walk on them) and one part of the border was still frozen solid. So, I decided it would be prudent to forego a walk today, in case there were any "hidden" patches of ice. I used the extra garden time to plant some anemone corms I was given for Christmas - they're in a planter and on a sheltered place, so should be ok.

My kitchen is clean and I've finally changed doctors and transferred to the local health centre. I did the whole thing online, and the process was very straightforward, although lengthy. I think everything should transfer across overnight. It will be good to use the health centre within easy walking distance,.and with its in own carpark for when we need to take the car. It also appears that they are a lot more "contactable" than our old health centre. Hopefully the level of care will also be improved too. Everyone I have spoken to that uses it has been positive, so I am optimistic.

Ive an early start tomorrow, so need to go to bed soon!

I needed to wait until 7th as one of my meds is due for ordering them, and I didn't want to risk a delay by moving beforehand. Once that's been processed, I'll follow DH's example
