Pretty sure you will be the only one who is ever aware of any slight imperfection in your work, Harriet! I know it will be beautiful!
Twins, that cruise sounds like it will be perfect for you and dh!
I agree with blessed, Cathy -- sometimes it's good to let the crabby out!
The contractor/carpenter friend that I always talk about is actually about my dmom's age. I think he is a year younger, so 15 years older than me. DS met him and started playing music with him when ds was about 14 -- he is also a preacher and was doing a local tv program twice a month where he and some other men would play gospel bluegrass music. For some reason, they needed a banjo player and someone told them ds would be a good fit. He and his wife have just about adopted ds as an extra grandchild, and with my dad gone, I certainly do value his opinion on things related to building and repairing. He may not be
quite the perfectionist my dad was, but I know he will do his very best to fix whatever needs fixing in this 40 year old house, and he will come back if it's not right, and I can trust him not to take advantage in pricing things for me. Plus, ds usually helps him when he is working here at my house.
I
am wondering how much the insurance may deduct from any payment they give me because of the age of the roof. Of course, I don't know yet if the cost will exceed the deductible and by how much.
I have talked to three people this afternoon who have metal roofs and all are very pleased (except one said his red had faded to a sort of pink over the 24 years he's had it) (another said her husband wanted red and they were told red and blue are the worst of all to fade). None have noticed any problems with internet and phones. AND three people have named the same business (although one used them for shingles rather than metal.)

The one with shingles chose this company because his daughter is an insurance adjustor and she recommended them. He chose shingles because he is a fireman, and he says when a house is on fire and the firemen need to cut a hole in the roof to vent the fire, it is much easier to do this on shingles and wood, rather than metal. This makes me go hmmm...
OTOH, I'm thinking if my house is burning to that extent, everything is probably going to be a total loss anyway, wouldn't you think?
I'm still torn on this decision, and when I told ds that dsisil said she liked the idea of a metal roof, but dbil would never agree to it, ds said, "Daddy probably wouldn't like a metal roof." He had no reasons, just a gut feeling -- and I kinda agree -- but I think it's just because dh (like myself) couldn't deal with change. But I'm thinking if I could get 30 years out of a roof, rather than 16... that has to be a better value. When I'm 95, I'm not going to worry about this roof.
I'm sorry, I am probably repeating myself a lot here. Just thinking aloud.
All the laundry is either put away or on hangers to dry. I ate supper, and then ate waaay too many carbs, fell asleep on the couch while watching AU and LSU play basketball (we won!), then talked to ds on the phone for a little while -- he was reporting on a booster club meeting -- and now I'm showered and will go to bed after I do my Bible study.
Tomorrow I have to go to Wmart and get something for dessert -- it's our night to do supper for Wednesday night.
I may need to go out and help dmom with some things she need me to do the heavy lifting for.
Mystery, where was the raccoon? If it was in your attic -- or anywhere in the house -- that certainly does not sound boring! Raccoons are so cute, but eeek! I wouldn't want one in the house. One night dh and I were sitting in the car eating at McDonalds, and we were right in front of one of the garbage cans. A raccoon popped up out of the garbage can and we watched him sitting there going through the garbage and eating. That was so neat. I've never seen one that close up again.
Well, good night to everyone. Yoga bright and early tomorrow. (10:00 am, you know.)
