Trying to hold all of this in my head, and can't possibly respond to all I want to -- but at any rate --
I am VERY glad
Indiana is back & able to tell her story! * whew * That was quite a scare! (((BIG HUGS, INDIANA)))
Yes,
Harriet, dfriend actually gave me the idea to be on the phone when we left the building alone like that. Like I said, we had a scare a few years back, at another school in the area, and dfriend started always calling me or her husband or son when she left and she was alone. So... * sigh * I can't take credit for ANY of the good ideas lately. Safety, door decorations... it's just my good fortune to have good friends.
The weekend is shaping up that dbil may want to go along with us to their cousin's wife's funeral. If that is the case, I may just stay home. DH is a little antsy at having to work his plan around dbil's plans, as is always the case when they travel together.
* More sighs * DH says he does not care in the least whether I go or not. But I may go anyway. We'll see how I feel after tomorrow. I absolutely MUST get some Christmas shopping done tomorrow night. Ddad's bday coming up next Monday... so I HAVE to have his gift for that by then. Well, by Tuesday, anyway. And no idea whatsoever what to get him. Clothes, when he has too many to fit in his closet and dresser as it is. But what else can you do? The man has no hobbies that allow anyone to contribute to them. I mean, what am I going to buy for a 1963 Pontiac??? * sheesh *
Did a little bit of shopping today at school. We have a lady who brings a jewelry party of sorts to us once or twice a year. I was able to get started on ddil, dsisil, and dniece. And got my "ladies" gift for "Dirty Christmas" with ddad's family.
Also just received knife block via FedEx which I had bought for ds/ddil. (I did tell you they told me I could have The Knife when I ate supper with them the other night, didn't I? Apparently they only have ONE knife that will cut meat. LOL)
AND yesterday received a dvd I had ordered for dmom. (Gaithers Remember George Younce)
I am enjoying the online shopping, but I'm not really good at it. I need to see my selection in person in order to get ideas and make my choices.
(((
OKay))) -- but my hunch is that this is a good sign. I think they are going to do nothing and LO is going to be settled in with YOU! That is my prayer, anyway.
Ditto with the authorized person snafus... We've BTDT, too.
OH --
Harriet -- I have seen the DevoZine (sp?) -- can't see your post now in topic review -- but it has been a long while since I looked at one closely, and I don't really know if they would be too mature for dd13 or not. However, I strongly suspect they would NOT be. DD13 sounds extremely mature and intelligent already, and I can't imagine church literature like this getting too far out there, anyway. (Although one can always be surprised by what even churches will promote in this day and time...)
But you know, you could always check it out before she got it and see if there were any controversial topics for the month that you might like to discuss and/or read
with her.
DS & I read together every night when he was little. First it was children's Bible story books, and then we started reading chapters of the Bible, and then finally one night, he told me he was big enough to read for himself. (He might have been 11 or 12 at this point; he put up with me for a LONG time.) At that point, I turned his devotional reading over to him, and I don't know if he does it daily at this point or not.
Dmom had a good idea when he was younger, but I never put it into practice. She said I should have told him to read his Upper Room passage & Bible accompaniment on his own, but then we should
discuss what we each thought about the day's reading. But... like I said, I never followed up on that good idea that was passed on to me.
This afternoon, after finishing my shopping at school,

I had to go to the ironing lady, the post office, and CVS for allergy med (I had a coupon for their store brand.) Then I called dmom to tell her we had to go to funeral home tonight, for the former employee and dfriend of dinlaws -- dh worked with him some in his teen years, also -- and I told dmom she was going have to use a line I have heard at bluegrass festivals re: my behavior towards her lately.
I believe it is Ralph Stanley who introduces one of his band members in this way:
"There's nothing he wouldn't do for me... and there's nothing I wouldn't do for him. So that's how we go through life...
... doing nothing for each other."

That's exactly what I've been doing for dmom lately.
Hope y'all have a good night.
