I'm going to try to go to bed soon. Sort of have my days and nights mixed up.

Twins, I'd take the invisible fence collar off, put one of your dogs' collars and leash on and take the dog for a walk around. They aren't dumb, they know once the shock collar is off, they can go home and I bet the dog will lead you straight home.

We had one dog in the neighbourhood who would 'jump' the fence, have a tremendous day off, enjoying the creek, the muddy fields and general freedom and then sit on the street in front of her house and bark to be let back in. The only problem was the owner was deaf so couldn't hear the barking. When I'd get fed up with it, I'd go take the shock collar off and the dog would bolt for home. I didn't even need to put a leash on her.

I need to get to bed. Dh won't be back until after 1 a.m. but there's no reason for me to stay up later. I just found the Daily Show extended interviews on a Canadian website (the US one is blocked to me) and so spent some time watching those.

Indiana - I am so happy to hear you're home! Doing the happy dance!

Waving hi to all, I've been reading posts but haven't responded. This week has been our Spring Break, so taking day trips and relaxing.

Thank you for good wishes today. It was a good day, if any funeral day can be defined as "good."
The weather was BEAUTIFUL, after a LOT of rain last night and into the morning.
We were tired -- exhausted, rather -- after standing over 2 hours and greeting friends & relatives, but it is so wonderful to have so many people come out and show their concern and support for your family. All my English dept co-workers came, plus my best friend co-worker, and another dfriend from school who used to coach w/dh. All of these people know dh, too, of course, and either worked with him or had him as a teacher themselves. My parents couldn't make it, but sent a BEAUTIFUL plant, and everyone else in my family came -- dsgm, daunts, duncle, and two of my cousins. DH said he counted 240 names in the guest register... and for mid-day on a week day, I thought that was amazing.
Dnephew21 spoke and was incredible. I had never heard him speak like that, and he really blew me away! He was sooo professional, so mature -- never got emotional, but was so sincere. He shared some serious episodes from dfil's life, and some funny episodes that had everyone laughing. It was just amazing. He probably talked 15 minutes and never thought about using a notecard. He said, "Well, it was just granddaddy; I couldn't say those things if he wasn't who he was." He is DEFINITELY going into the right profession and I hope someday we see him on ESPN or the network news or something.
DS played three songs on the guitar and sang one of them. He did an excellent job, too, and I know it was not an easy thing to do.
I know dfil would have been sooo sooo proud of both his grandsons.
Our preacher did a wonderful job too, with his remarks... the meal afterward was very good... we were surprised by cousin from out of state, whom we did not expect to show up... all in all, it was just a beautiful tribute to a wonderful life.

We spent the rest of the evening at dmil's and now we are sooo glad to be home.

I think dh is going to be okay, but I know he's got some lonesome days and sad moments ahead of him. I can't imagine losing a parent.

Sorry this is so long, but I just had to share.
Tomorrow... main item on my PODA will be to go to hospital and check on my ddad, probably sit with him while dmom goes home for misc items, restocking (clean clothes), etc.

Thank you Lucylee for checking in with us in the village. I've been thinking of you today and hoping it went well. Sounds like a wonderful sharing of memories by your family.

Hi Harriet - Yes, we gallivanted to San Francisco yesterday and around the county today. Tomorrow night I'm going to see Lily Tomlin perform at a local theater. I've seen her before and she is still as funny as she was on "Laugh-In" in the 60's. She still does her "Ernestine" and "Edith Ann" characters, along with other comedy bits.
