Smile.

I have also taken blackstrap molasses off the spoon - makes you feel virtuous. :| You need a bread or food into which it can either be stirred, or into which it could soak, i.e. oatmeal or English Muffin. Also, a little butter on that would be nice. I'm sure Indiana or other more food-savvy or cooking-savvy villager would have ideas. Nevertheless, my ddad would tell you the fact that you make a face when eating it shows that it's the good stuff and will do you good.

Elizabeth, that's tough to suddenly find out you weren't invited to the cast-cutting event for dd when you don't see a reason for the exclusion. My dstepgd has 2 separate bday parties every year, I think. And that's with parents who have a good relationship like you and your ex. At first, both families did everything together but eventually things just went separate, especially when on the in-law side another baby was born.

sherinjoy, enjoy all your off-my-mind successes.

OKay, what I hate about large projects like the one you describe is when somebody knows somebody and then you don't end up with a professional situation. I've gotten to the point I'd almost rather go with the professional, distant person and pay more, if that's what it takes. But HRH comes from a bartering mentality, even in his management work, really, and cannot be satisfied until he has haggled and ferreted out the friend-of-a-friend who charges less or will trade work. 7 so far? Bless your heart! I hope you get this accomplished soon.

Twins, no sooner had I gotten our "yellow" ink cartridge replaced than one of the bluish ones is flashing. They are $15.99 at Staples and they don't carry the multi-pack! Lady at Staples says we can turn the printer in when buying another and probably get a $50 rebate

Off the top of my head black strap molasses can be added to baked beans, gingerbread, oatmeal, or a spread. The spread needs to have butter and sugar added.

Have you tried mixing it with milk or soy? Mix the molasses with water first then add the milk either hot or cold. If cold with ice.

I think black strap molasses is an acquired taste.

How is black strap molasses different from sorghum (sp?) molasses? Isn't that the name I'm thinking of?
Ddad LOVES sorghum molasses. It is part of our Christmas breakfast tradition. He asks for the sorghum molasses, asks if any of us want any, we all shake our heads 'no'... he tells us he just cannot understand it, we don't know what we're missing.
LOL.

Just random thoughts. Can't respond properly to 4 pages...

(((Dee))) & d?gd...

Hope you feel better SOON, Kathryn!

Waving to EVERYBODY!!!

I have LOTS to do, but I think I will put on my own oxygen mask first ;) and go out for a walk. Something has GOT to change around here, and a MAY COMMITMENT to exercise would be an excellent place to start.
Tomorrow is another day.

Sorghum if from a cane plant related to sugar cane my family had a mill that they processed it. Mom used it instead of sugar in baking recipes use like you would honey omitting an egg.
For more info. look on Wikipedia.

I've mowed the back yard winds dried it off enough to do that after granny duty counting that for my exercise.

You gals are so smart and helpful thanks!

Norma, I'm sorry you've had bad dr. reports.

Indiana, Facebook stuff gets by me all the time. I don't go there often enough to catch it all before it scrolls off. My DD's call me to tell me they've posted pictures, etc.; sorta defeats the purpose of Facebook, huh!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY COWINKIE! Last one as a working teacher, right?

DH puts a spoonful of regular molasses in his baked beans all the time. I just looked at our jar, it isn't labeled blackstrap. It has 2% iron, calcium, and magnesium. Not very high, I don't think. I thought all molasses was made from sorghum. Saw that on the Waltons where they made some because sugar was non-existent during the war.

Made a nice dinner, individual meatloafs, stirfry veggies with zucchini, yw squash, and broccoli from my garden, baked potato for DH. Kitchen's all cleaned up but I need to make lunches for tomorrow.

Helper tells us former employee is griping to him about us taking our truck back. Yeah. I guess we should give him our truck so he can go do his own thing and then not come out to work when we need him. Hmmmph! We're done with that!

Home from dog shots. Had to stand in line over 30 minutes but was enjoyable visiting with some people I rarely see.

I add 1 Tablespoon of Molasses for every 1 cup of beans after they are soaked but before cooking. After they are cooked, the molasses just gives it a hint of sweetness.

Have you ever had Molasses cookies? YUMMY!!!

Here's what I found: Blackstrap molasses is from the 3rd boiling of sugar cane. The first 2 are milder I guess. If it is made from sorghum instead of sugar cane, it's not technically authentic molasses. I always thought it was a hillbilly thing. Google the story of molasses accident filling the streets of Boston. Very interesting!

Molasses cookies (and gingerbread) are comfort foods for me. But not on my current diet. I might try adding it to oatmeal muffins.

Dinner is done. I passed on the ribs and had one of my healthy pizzas. And lots of salad and watermelon for dessert. Will have more of that for my lunch tomorrow. They were selling tiny ones for $2, just enough for 4 large servings but not so much that it sticks around day after day, after day. Dh doesn't eat it, but ds does so he enjoyed it with me.

So sorghum is a separate plant entirely (from sugar cane, I mean). I learn so much here.

Tonight, from Wikipedia, I have also learned that yes, those mounds near my driveway are most likely caused by crawdads... and apparently there is not a whole lot of difference in these crawdads and the crawfish (crayfish?) served in restaurants? Hmmm...
I have NEVER eaten crawfish and never plan to. DH & ds love them... but no... not me. They look too much like bugs. I love shrimp and crab... but I can't take something that close to the size of a large roach. :P
I also do not eat oysters, another delicacy that dh & ds love.

I walked only one mile. However, that is better than anything I have done in the past week, so I'm proud of myself.
I have a load of laundry in the washer and need to tend to that.
Tomorrow is another day.
