Speaking of large eggs... ...

... ... that's a bad transition from Kathryn's brief egg comment but I cannot help it, I'm over-delighted. Two lovely proud large-egg-laying hens have arrived. Nancy, I'm frustrated that I was not prepared with a camera. Sigh. But I'll get a photo later.

As per my usual experience with ladies who keep chickens, this one was pleasant, honest and welcoming. Dd and I could not have had a nicer, more scenic trip, or a more enjoyable experience petting her other animals. If anything, I believe these hens are younger than the lady thought. She mentioned the feathers on the ground and I said we had one in molt, too. But, sadly no, she explained it was where the rooster had been killed by her neighbor's dog. She's had a hard time, poor thing. A man was coming to buy the rest of her (more rare) flock after we left, and I imagine if I had not called as quickly as I did he would have taken all of them.

Sadie, that's right, it wasn't that long ago, was it, that you were telling us about the extreme changes in your home area. ((ds16)) Hope he feels completely well soon.

I forgot to come back and say the other day that my disappointment in the "remake" (not) of The Munsters, called mockingbird lane, was absolute. I'll probably never glance at it again.

We are watching The Munsters all evening, having set the DVD to "play all". That will be fun. To school today dd14 wore her "Team Edward" tee shirt (a take-off on Twilight) that shows a large portrait of Eddie Munster.

One ouch here today, as HRH was stung by a yellow jacket.

I'll spend the evening working on Christmas cards for Holiday Grand Plan. Anyone else doing that this evening? I've always been so impressed by those of you who sometimes did.

Not going to try to cuop right now. I'm on my phone & I find it hard to read much. Dh & I had a good trip and have had dinner. Just wanted to let you know we had safe trip here. Didn't see any of the damage on the way.

Things are very quiet here. I don't expect hardly anyone after 8.

Harriet When the kids were younger, I'd spend my time waiting by the door going over the Christmas catalogs and planning purchases. But tonight I just worked on emptying my email in-box. It got over 500 again and I've only got it to under 500 (my goal for tonight.)

I'll work on the Sunday School as well if I get time. Right now, I'm ready to go to bed again.

Probably less than a dozen trick or treaters and we'll have lots of candy left that we don't need. I walked ddogs and they got to see some kids out. Macs took a playful spell where he brought me a lovey to play keep away with him and had fun.

Whoops, just got an ugly temple email that I don't need tonight. Tomorrow is another day. la la la la la la la la la Where is Lucylee when I need her?

Hi! I wanted to post before my battery ran down. I'm sitting outside with dh greeting the gremlins and goblins as they come for their treats. I set up a card table with three containers of different candy so they can choose what they like. I love to see all the little ones; and they are all so cute and polite! I have a ceramic pumpkin candleholder with candle lit and an owl with the body made of lacy flowers so the (battery operated) candle light will show through on the table as decoration.

It is dark now and the temp is down to 68* now and we both have sweatshirts on.

((Cowinkie))...that's so sad, like part of yourself is gone! It's very emotional to see the pictures of what the power of wind and water will do.

Harriet....Too bad the lady has to give up her flock, but good that you could welcome two new hens! What will you name them?

Elizabeth...Hope dd is better. Four of our six local dgkids have been sick here, sounded like flu to me. Two of them are still not back to school.

Today is dgs birthday. He was 9 today! We called to say hi to him after he got home from school.

The battery is almost gone. So far we've had 39 trick-or-treaters here. Waving hello to everyone!

2012 Halloween has ended for us. I planned more than we could fit into the time available but we enjoyed all the stops we made.

Ha! OKay!

My halloween story is a sad one. A family south of us had all their outside halloween decorations going, with much extension cords and electric going, and it overloaded their circuits and somehow caught fire and their house burned down. The news says they will sit in the yard and give out candy tonight.

Halloween is my least favorite holiday, but I always buy candy and put the light on, then when noone comes (our houses are a good walk apart around here) we put the light out and the candy is ours. This year I can't eat it, I'm off chocolate.

My goodness I worked hard today. I just now got my payroll taxes in, and still have 2 more projects before the month is closed out and then there is a stack of bills still to pay. I did a bushel full of dishes by hand and ran the over-full dishwasher besides. Then I cooked us a nice dinner and did those dishes.

I'm pretty much back to what I used to be, though I did sleep in a couple hours today. Such a relief!

We had 42 in total so lots left over for me. I had already removed all the Smarties because I'll use those in church for Children's stories (that a tradition in our church started by our long-time minister.)

Just as we were cleaning up, the phone rang and it was a church member letting me know a show on Machu Pichu was beginning on PBS. Dh is going in the spring (leaving me behind because of my fear of heights) and so we sat and watched it. It looks spectacular and for a second I thought I might go but then I looked more closely at the breath-taking, dramatic, panoramic views and realized I don't like breath-taking, dramatic, panoramic, places.

Off to bed now.

Dh failed to let me know about a meeting he has all day tomorrow in the city. Had I know, I would have volunteered tomorrow and done housework today. Anyhow, that means I get the house to myself, which will be nice. Of course, I won't have someone to help me with the vacuuming if my back complains but I'll manage.

(((Cowinkie))) -- I just can't even imagine how you are feeling now. I know I get attached to places & buildings... they tore down the old theater that my dgdad helped build... and the church where I was baptized... and I hated seeing those buildings go. I can't even begin to think what it is like to have whole sections of town wiped out. And the clean-up will be so overwhelming, too, I know. It's just unbelievable. Just know that you & your family & friends are in my prayers.

Halloween. Fun to see dgs in his first Halloween costume, but of course, it was a pretty short-lived event. He was hot and tired of his costume by the time he got to us, LOL. But dparents & dmil got to see him, plus they went to the church "trunk or treat" and to the nursing home where the residents were giving out candy. Dh's aunt was of course thrilled to see him, along with my aunt, who was visiting her mom, and a cousin, who was visiting hers.
Then dgs stayed w/us while ds/ddil went out to eat, and some more of my cousins came over to see him & let their kids trick-or-treat. Other than that, I only had two kids trick-or-treat tonight.
DGS's costume WAS really perfect, though. It was a fleece football uniform, but the bottom of it just looked like a football, and it was in our high school colors, with the same # that ds wore when he played. Ddil was really excited when she found it online. DS even painted the school logo on the little fleece helmet, LOL!

I'm not real crazy about Halloween, either, Harmony. That is terrible about your neighbors! My cousin had her house decorated really extravagantly, and I found out tonight that she had several items stolen from her porch! I eat too much candy, too.

That was always our problem when ds was little, OKay. It was just exhausting.
I never cared all that much for it when I was little. I always HATED wearing those hot, plastic-y masks that used to be so common.
My brother is crazy about Halloween, though. Ddil is, too. DS can take it or leave it, I think.
I wanted to spend the evening grading papers... but that didn't happen. * sigh *
Tomorrow IS another day...

Ddil also reports that she is going to make an appt with another doctor SOON. She said, "I didn't even feel like we HAD a 4-month check-up. After she fussed at us, she left and then just stuck her hand in the door to give us the rx for excema, and they actually let us leave without getting his shots. We had to turn around and go back in to get his shots!"
* sheesh *

DH is getting very irritable b/c the sound of ds's schedule means that
1) ds is NOT going to another football game with dh this season until the very last game
2) ds is most likely not going to be able to make their traditional Christmas shopping/basketball game trip this year
3) ds is NOT playing a show in Nashville that dh could go to, but IS playing one w/same guy that dh CAN'T go to
4) and... it is becoming kinda apparent that we will be spending New Year's Eve babysitting. (I don't think either of us really mind that. We're not much for celebrations, anyway. I think dh is just depressed b/c it is so obvious that we WILL be available this year at New Year's Eve... no Bowl game for us, you know.)
But anyway... dh is not a really happy camper tonight.
He'll get over it.

I'm back. I tried to get all the cruise pictures off the camera and onto the computer. There was a program crash and they are all gone. Tomorrow, I will go to a camera place and see if they can get them back, but I don't have much hope. Between that and the hard drive failure, I am not sure I even should be touching the computer today! I still need to balance the checkbook. I should go to bed but I slept so late this morning/afternoon that I am not a bit tired. My friends on the cruise are going to kill me, I was the one with all the camera memory. M only had 36 pictures and H had none. M said that H was really anxious to see them because she missed many shore excursions because she was recovering from chemo and was too tired. This is incredibly BAD.

ETA: I decided to go ahead and risk balancing the checkbook. It balanced to within 18 cents, so that was a success. Still don't know what to do about those pictures, that is a total unmitigated disaster and will worry me for a long time.
