Lilac, I laughed so hard at the movies you saw as a child! DH told me I was too old to have seen "Midway" at the theater because it's from 1979. I married DH in 1970. He said it must've been "Tora, Tora, Tora!" Which I saw at the drive-in, I believe. I've watched many war movies after marriage, too. And DH re-watches them over and over, too. He has the DVD set of "Band of Brothers" and "Saving Private Ryan." So when he's "bored", he'll drag them out to watch in a sort of marathon 3-day weekend. We have "Pearl Harbor" on DVD and "Wind Talkers", too.

When I was a child, Ddad and Dmom would pay for us to go to the theater in town while they ran errands, did banking, and I think they might have gotten a bit to eat. One movie there was, "Gone With the Wind"! I was so attached to their little girl with the pony and felt so sad when she died. Then, one other movie was a horror movie, us kids were sitting in the front row, the movie was called, "The Tingler", which looked like a flexible spine, which strangled people. Anyway, a person was laying down, they jumped up to a sitting position, in a close-up and we screamed, in the front row because it was so life-like and scary!

I re-worked my calendar, worked on getting some appt.'s in 2013 in sync with someone, and journaled, and felt much better. After dinner, I feel even better. Hoping tomorrow to get more laundry done, I fed Bert & Ernie 1 load today. I cleaned up DH's dishes after dinner and even washed the pan. He was grateful.

OKay, that's good news on LO. Good luck on April 30, 2013, too. Are you doing WW now or soon? I tried Low Carb for quite awhile to go from 218 Lbs. to under 170 Lbs., but I ended up getting Gastritis and now I think that the Low Carb diet brought it on. Now I'm eating normal food and am doing find, holding my own within a 3-Lbs. yo-yo frame. Need to lose about 20 - 30 Lbs. though.

Woke up from my nap even sleepier... Now watching some TV before bed, I have 8 preceptees starting tomorrow.

Dinner is done and the cookies are baked and packed. They are yummy Oatmeal, Raisin, Chocolate Chip Cookies... which I am famous for at work. I don't have to pack my lunch tomorrow because we get free lunch the 1st day of preception.

Ivy, my dh also has the Band of Brothers DVDs. But he watches it every time it comes on TV, too. Saving Private Ryan is one of those movies that he watches every single time he runs across it. He came home tonight and headed to the garage to watch war movies. He doesn't smoke in the house, so that is why he spends so much time in the garage. He is planning to quit smoking again for the umpteenth time soon.

All's well that ends well here with the tutoring drama. AT the Detroit church tutoring center, the little girl in question was asked who she wanted to tutor her - the other older girl, dd17, or both. She answered both. And dd17 said she was not particularly partial toward the other girl. It sounds like everyone got along just fine. . . . . *phew* So glad to hear that. Teenage girl drama - yes, good to experience it a little. My girls are relatively drama-free actually, thank goodness. They are not in the popular crowd and have no desire to be. And they have no interest in boys yet either -- no, not even dd17. So, things could be a lot more complicated here. Counting my blessings.

Dr. appt. for dd14 was 1.5 hours late. I sat in the office and read my John Steinbeck novel. Dd14 read George Orwell for English. I ended up being about 30 minutes late to Hebrew class, but I didn't want to miss it! I didn't have anything to make for supper, so I ran by Whole Foods to pick up some pork chops immediately after class. --Kind of ironic, actually. . . . We had a quick dinner of pork chops, mashed potatoes, and mixed veggies.

Dh and I just got back from a hot date to Walgreens to pick up dd14's meds with Pepper, who happens to smell like a sewer. Yes, how very romantic. She stayed in the car, of course. We all wonder if she has found a dead animal in the yard and has been rolling around in it. Doggy perfume.

I don't like war movies, but dh does. He doesn't get to watch movies very often, though. I don't like horror movies either. . . ..

It is late. This was one heck of a day. Tomorrow is a new one! I'm going to head toward bed now.

helia, I was so relieved to hear that the tutoring situation had been resolved. It just didn't seem right that that girl could step in for such a short time and leave the younger girl again in January. I am sure that continuity is very beneficial to the younger children in this situation.

Yes, helia, count your blessings that your dd17 is not interested in boys. She is so well rounded and the boy issue can really cause girls to neglect the important things. Plus, boys really add to the drama. I have 2 16 yr old dgds. One has a boyfriend that she has had for over a year. The other has had countless boyfriends in that time and continues to pick losers. She is loud and speaks her mind, which is not always a good thing. I look at her and wonder where that sweet little girl went to. I love her to pieces. She always listens intently to any advice any of us give her, then continues to do things her way. Every time I read about your dd17, helia, I always wish that my dgd16 would act mature and responsible like her.

Ivy, I mentioned to dh our conversation about war movies, that your dh has the Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan. He said he would like to have that movie because it is such a great movie. I just started laughing and he is all, what did I say? I seriously can't believe he would want that movie after having seen it as many times as he has. When my youngest nephew was younger they had the Lonesome Dove VHS movie and he watched it so much that he wore it out, so they bought him another one. This nephew is my db youngest. They gave him dhs name for a middle name and it is uncanny how much they are alike. Both real nitpicky about organizing their things. In fact when dnephews wife was pregnant last time, he wanted another girl. We teased him that he didn't want to share his hunting and fishing equipment with a son. He didn't deny it but he is thrilled with their son.

I like almost all movies, except horror movies. Can't stand anything too gruesome or involving supernatural evil forces. Just the previews of Psycho make me nervous! I saw The Birds on tv as a child and it freaked me out for life!
Movies I could watch over and over:
Gone with the Wind... To Kill a Mockingbird... The Wizard of Oz... It's a Wonderful Life... The Natural (Robert Redford)... The Way We Were (Robert Redford)... W.W. and the Dixie Dance Kings (Burt Reynolds)... The Help... probably a bunch more, LOL!
DH & I saw the new James Bond movie last night, Skyfall. We give it two thumbs up.

I saw Midway in the theater... don't remember a whole lot about it... but interestingly enough, just tonight a cousin sent a picture of her ddad on the Midway during WWII.
DH spent his Saturdays being babysat by the local theater, too, Lilac! I think he watched GWTW 3 times in one day once!

Dgs has been sleeping very peacefully in his basinette (sp?) for a couple of hours.
If there is anything in the world more sweet & peaceful than a sleeping baby, I don't know what it could be.

All my papers are graded & recorded in gradebook. (Must be in computer tomorrow, but I'll do that at school!)
Kitchen is clean, all baby stuff is washed.
A load of clothes (sheets & underwear) is in the dryer.
I have talked to dcousin, dbil, dbil, dcousin on phone -- managing sale of football tickets for the weekend...
I have been to Wmart twice... and visited dmil w/dh...
and talked to dmom on the phone once.
I guess that is the extent of the ta-da's around here.

VERY windy here last night, also... and going to be below freezing tonight. Brrrr... I dread getting out in the morning. Cold winter mornings are DEFINITELY something I will NOT miss when I retire. * shiver *

lucylee, I am with you on The Birds movie. It creeped me out.

I am looking forward to the new Lincoln movie that opens this week.

lucylee, I really think you are ready to retire. If you ever get cold feet, just remember that Cowinkie has no regrets and is enjoying this new phase in her life.

I'm enjoying some quiet time before lights out.

We've had another quiet weekend with no company. I wonder if that is becoming the new normal as that has happened a lot lately. I know that as the dgkids grow up there will be more times that they have other things they have to do, which is the way it should be. But dh has gotten so used to them visiting every week for that few hours that he really misses the interaction with them!

I was able to get my daily routine finished this morning. Dh saw the ads on tv that some of the local restaurants were honoring veterans by offering a free meal for all servicemen. He wanted to go to Golden Corral since we hadn't been there in a long time. So as we drove up the street where it was we saw the parking lot full, people parked on the street and the line out the building, through the lot and halfway up the street. Dh said at least a three hour wait and no, we weren't going to wait in that line. So we ended up at a different place and had a good meal with leftovers for tomorrows lunch!

Helia.... your pork chop dinner sounds good! Glad the drama was defused. Raising teen girls is a lot different than raising teen boys!
Nancy.... sounds like your weather is getting colder.

I don't like scary movies either. And I don't like the CIS shows either, particularly the Spec. Vict. Unit shows - they are just too graphic. The only one I will watch once in a while is NCIS. I will watch the war movies with dh, especially the older ones. We watched Patton today. Alfred Hitchcock movies give me the shivers!

Lilac, it DOES scare me a little bit, thinking about what may be "required" of me once I'm retired... re: ddad... and wondering how much time will be required for babysitting duty if ddil goes back to school full-time AND continues working, which she just about will have to do... BUT -- I know if ddad needs me, and if ddil needs me, I want to be there for them -- so it will be much better to be retired, rather than pulled in three different directions. Four, counting dh, LOL.
Don't get me wrong -- I LOVE LOVE LOVE having dgs around. But it IS a lot of responsibility and I have to admit I don't want babysitting to turn into a 8-5 job next year. But I don't see that happening, b/c ds is home too much.

ALSO... I am REALLY, REALLY getting sooo sick of all the new-fangled ideas that keep coming to us at school from The Powers That Be. I honestly don't know if I could stand it if I thought I'd be there another year. Lots of changes this year and more promised ahead.

Oh my... it is almost 12:30. I must go to bed.
