Cool, Ivy! One of now dd14's good friends when we lived in Australia was named Ivy. She is Korean and Ivy is her English name.

OK - so I forgot that the starters for the burners are electric. So, I can't cook after all. . . . Ergh. I don't want to eat out yet another time today. .. OTOH, it would be nice not to have to cook or clean up a meal. Maybe it will be back on by then.




Adding. . . . dh just told me we can light the burners with a match to start them so I think we can eat at home after all!

Helia: your dh saved me a post! Gotta love having a gas stove!!!

I'm awake from my nap. I pretty sure I slept some of the time but fully relaxed for at least an hour. I'm far less sore now than when I lay down and less sleepy too. I should get up but chose to play solitaire and Sudoku for a while. Got an email answer from dd.

The phones and internet are out intermittently in the next village over (where our second church is.) Even if you do have a dial tone, phone calls are not necessarily being routed to the correct phone (so most calls made/received are wrong numbers.)

This was scary for my senior friend who 1) couldn't get a call to connect to her family and 2) was worried the call from the hospital saying what time her surgery was would not get through to her. That call came through fine and family finally came over and talked directly with her.

It is a funny outage in that the cable company (which also offers internet and phone over internet) and the phone company (which also offers internet) are not working right and things sometimes work and then they don't. It occurs to me that this might be why I haven't heard from the secretary where I'm preaching since she's in the village on the other side of this one and it is possible the outage is farther afield than just that one village.

Hi Everyone! I was going to post last night, but was so sleepy. Supper is ready now - vegetable quiche - so I'm taking a break to post and eat in leisure!

Happy (belated) Birthday Elly!

Thinking of all the people in the path of the winter storm, especially those where the high winds and snow is falling. There are tornado warnings for the FL panhandle and I know Alabama had at least one touch down. The rain storm part of it is close to the east coast now.

We are close to being done with shopping; only have three easy, miscellaneous things to get. Monday and Tuesday were both 6-hour shopping trips. Wednesday morning I wrapped all the to-go presents. As I wrapped, dh packed the carton and we were at the post office by noon. We also sent 7 doz. cookies for dfam#3 and a couple doz. for their best friends who live in the same neighborhood. A nice thing happened at the P. O. We found a parking place close, right in front of the door and dh carried the box into the front lobby where he set it down on a counter to rest a minute. A lady who was filling out a form said he looked like he needed a hand and carried the box into the other room where the postmen were waiting on customers, right up to the window! We were very grateful and told her so!

**Lilac...Hoping your dgd16 continues good recovery from her surgery.

**Harriet...Hope your ddad's tests show nothing serious.
**Scattered...Hope your daunt feels better. Glad your first day at new job went well.
**Nancy...WTG on the eggs your hens are giving. So nice you could see some robins. They are one of my favorite birds, but I don't get to see them down here often. Maybe only once a year for a few days.
**MT...Yours and dh's carvings are wonderful; nice treasures for your dfamily!

**Dee...I'm still praying at all will work out well for dgd14, dd & dsil, as well as you and dh.

Since the last three days were busy with shopping, etc., I had to catch up on things around the house. I got a general room-by-room pick up done and desk work for the month is done.

We talked with ds#2 yesterday and now they all have the flu, or whatever it is that ddil has. She has not gone to work since last Thursday and had to take dgd10 with her to see the dr. Ds took off work Mon., but has worked since Tue. because he has no sick days.

Today is my ddil#3 birthday. She is only 5 weeks & 3 days younger than my ds#3. I can't believe they are 33 years old now.

Well, I want to finish cleaning up the kitchen, then maybe I'll wrap a few presents for a while.

Now a "moose" crossing sign would really be good, scattered! Did see those signs several years ago up toward Quebec and was so hoping to see a moose. Didn't happen.

I've been puttering in the office this afternoon and finally have it so it's much more presentable. Dh had been doing a puzzle on a table in here and that's done so I've turned it into a wrapping center. We kept loading the dining room table -this will be good. I also cleaned off a huge computer desk in here and at dd's agreement, I've moved my computer and printer in here. I've had the printer on a tray table which wiggled awfully every time I printed. Also brought my sad lamp in here and can now turn off the ceiling light in here. Now to clean up the mess in our room

Thanks for your kind thoughts, Sunny. Hopefully things will get better as we go. Of course we have a 2-week school break ahead of us. This could be tough if new meds don't work out.

HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY, Ellyphant! Hope you had a wonderful day.

Day is done. Phone calls slowed my progress in the evening. I did get most of the cards opened while on the phone, though, and did up the dishes and got the garbage and recycle out.

The storm has started. It wasn't on when I was on the phone (because I went out back to empty the vegetable compost bin into the bin in the back yard.) When I hung up the phone, I heard a few 'ticks' on the window from the freezing rain so headed out to do the garbage. When I went to the garage it was pouring so I put on my slicker and Sou'wester, boots and dh's grippers on my boots but by then the squawl had passed by so it wasn't soaking when I put out the garbage and recycle.

I put the winter mats in the car, searched some more for my grippers (no luck) and tidied the garage a bit.

I've polished my shoes and will spray my boots with waterproofing before bed. My boots leaked on Tuesday so I'm hoping a resealing will be enough and that I don't need new boots. It is too late to get boots now, the selection in my size will be picked over completely.

The freezing rain has started in earnest and the window beside my desk is now iced over. Tomorrow will be a quiet day (unless of course we lose power, in which case the generator will be noisy.)

Thank you for the birthday wishes! You're all so sweet. You've put a smile on my face...and I must confess that I've been a real grouch this evening. Feels like it's my time of the month...only I haven't had that for over 2 years!

DH and I drove 2 hours to a theatre production (Jonah), then drove 2 hours back to our house. I fixed a quick supper and we headed out to W-mart to get gifts for DH's department at work. It's been an exhausting day. The show was excellent, but traffic was horrendous and we didn't eat at our regular times. Apparently, I need structure and don't do well when my routine is upset (even for fun things).

Had to start back on reflux meds. Stressing out about cooking next week. Have a Christmas party to attend tomorrow night. Need to calm down before then and find the old ellyphant...she's here somewhere...
