Wednesday Memories

[OKay]

Home from eating with DGS18, his girl friend and her 3 years old son. This GF is very draining to be around. She talks NON-stop. No one else at the table could said anything. She talked....the......whole...... time. The first time I met her (45 days ago), I just thought she was talking so much because she might be nervous. Nope. She continually tells everyone what to do and tells her detailed opinion about everything.. All through the meal, she continually got onto LO and repeatedly told him that he needed better manners (LO, put your fork down between bites......LO, don't take such big bites, etc, etc, etc). LO was not acting up. He was sitting in his chair next to me quietly eating. I kept my arm around LO and kept patting him on the back. We tried to smile through her high expectations and reprimands. While she was talking non-stop and getting onto LO, her 3 year old son was dumping the whole salt shaker onto his food. Everything on his plate was turned white. I finally pointed my finger at his plate to get her to pay attention to him. She continued to talk as she **flicked** her 3 year old on the head for the salt mess. I admit.....I was overwhelmed by her. If DGS18 and GF stay together, I'm going to have to put up some strong boundaries about her comments to LO. It is a safe bet that I won't endure an experience like that again.

Oh Well. We survived. I talked to LO afterwards and complimented him on how well he acted in the restaurant.

OKay, I believe it takes something like 10 compliments to counteract 1 criticism in children so you need to continue to express how impressed you were with LO this evening.

I'm here at the most southerly, easterly, point of the trip. At one point today, we had to drive along I81. That happens to be 'our' interstate (it is the closest interstate to my house, starting at the border along the Seaway.) So after driving through MI, OH, WV and into VA, it was odd to finally to on I81. Even more odd was that we had to go North-East on it, instead of south (we were just connecting up between two other freeways.)

We arrived just before 6:30, called Harriet once we were in the room and then headed out for supper. She and dd14 joined us for dessert and then we headed over to ds28's home to meet her dgs. Who is beyond adorable (and greeted us with handshakes at the door.) Ds's home is gorgeous. It is an older bungalow that has been updated beautifully and looks like something out of a magazine.

Harriet dropped us back at the hotel and dh and I went up to the room and then remembered the cooler still had to come upstairs so went back down to get it. It is so lovely and warm (AND NOT RAINING) I asked dh if we could walk around the hotel. We ended up walking a lot farther than that and determined that if our car broke down while we were here, we'd eat very well because there's a wide assortment of restaurants within a short walk.

We are at a Candlewood Suites (part of the same chain that owns Holiday Inn) and it has the best idea for a guest laundry and exercise room. They are in the same room! It is brilliant, you have no excuse not to make the time to workout at least once a week. And the exercise bike here is the same one as we have at home (except dh's custom laptop shelf isn't available for him.)

Dh has been on the tech support helpline for almost an hour now. His Mac won't connect. My pc will, his Galaxy Note will, but his Mac won't and the tech guy can't figure out why. Sigh....

I'm almost all unpacked. Put the ice packs away, washed up today's dishes, refilled vitamin containers and tidied. All that is left on the bed is dh's stuff.

Time to do physio.

Okay, how maddening! Yes, it's one thing to let it go by once, in case it was unusual - but in future you'll have to protect LO. Which will be tricky...

Kathryn, I'm laughing - I've spend enough time on 81 myself, but in PA and Southern Tier/Central NY. Funny how we all know our little sections...

Ended up (in Pam's honor?) going through the program I use for my "box" - which I haven't used in the last month - and neatened it up. If I start working that again...

Hello, villagers ~

Realized a little bit ago that I hadn't peeked into our forums since Monday. Whirlwind couple of days so I'm exhausted. Tomorrow I'm hoping to be able to stay home all day.

Last night was sewing group meeting, which for me usually means the whole day making sure everything is ready. Although the meeting itself was long, it was lots of fun. All of our snowbirds we haven't seen for months are finally back home. Several people brought current projects to show.

Today I was out of the house all day running errands.

Lucylee ~ I'm so sorry for your loss. It's wonderful that you are able to be there with your mom.
