Re: TOTH or BOTH Tuesday
Didn't vacuum. Did make a bunch of phone calls.
I read recently that email has decreased productivity because it takes so long to settle things in a back-and-forth whereas a phone call gets things settled in minutes. Today an email came to me saying the other church was planning a luncheon for the new minister. I, of course, had already set up such a luncheon at my house. So rather than deal with emails, I took to the phones and found out who started it, let them know there had been a conflict but dh and I would join their effort (to my advantage since I'm not hosting a crowd here on a very busy weekend for me) and then emailed the original invite list and let them know where lunch will be held.
Another email came in about an ecumenical planning meeting so, again, I picked up the phone, got answers fast and responded by email. By then, I needed a 'drink' so had a Dr. Pepper to get through the last of the phone calls.
Checking calendar to coordinate ds's sleep location reminded me it was my sister's birthday so I called her.
Now, I think I'll vacuum. Even though I won't have people for lunch on Sunday, I do have overnight guests on Thursday.

CI:
s2s, hair colored, Bible reading done,
2nd load of laundry ready to hang to dry
3rd load in washer
post office
bank
drug store
jewelry store (new battery in watch)
read college alumni news magazine and
soooo sad to learn that the former head of my English dept passed away a year ago!!! Sooo sad. He was such a wonderful man. I had him for several classes, of course, and he was an amazing teacher. Also a HUGE bluegrass and country music fan, so we discovered we had lots in common, and actually kept in touch over the years occasionally b/c we'd run into him at a festival we went to each year. But it has probably been over 5 years since I had seen him. He had a stroke and died five days later, according to obituary I found online.
Now... I really really want to vacuum while dh is out of the house, but I know dh really really wants me to reconcile the checkbook statement... so I'm going to do that first.

Ivy, doing things by the hour is just one idea for accomplishing things through the day - looking at the day by the hours and, being aware of them, trying to get something done regularly. I'm not sure it was ever in a P and P book, just a way to check in.
Actually, I had had TOTH planning on my mind lately, as the school year is upon us and we might be able to settle more into routine around here. I'll be getting home from school run at almost exactly 7, and of course I have always tried to make my Morning Daily Card work out to about an hour's time. Then 8 to 9 could hold a fruit breakfast, 15 minutes of declutter and Focus. Then 9 to 10 could hold exercise, break time and brunch. That would bring me up to the 10:00 moment, able to answer, "yes, I've done that" to a lot of questions, even if my day falls apart with interruptions afterward! Anyway, it's a work in progress.
lucylee, if your mother offered you some money for your birthday, are you sure that she doesn't assume that's done? Maybe she figures she offered but you really didn't care for it, and now she's put it out of her mind. Sorry to hear about your former teacher/professor.
I've been researching a little about hard water, phosphates and products, including vinegar, for dishwashers. The towel the repairman borrowed to mop up is in the washer now and the first load of laundry is folded and put away.

Re: TOTH or BOTH Tuesday
Home from PT w Macs and then a pedicure immediately after. Physical therapist says that if I am to transport dMacs in my Honda Pilot, the required ramp may be too steep for him anyway so I am going to just sit tight for now. She does insist that he is plenty strong still and moves a lot of water when he swims; I just want to keep him mobile. The "Help em up" harness that I have for him has a handle over his hips for assistance getting into the car and up the front steps.
Tomorrow is busy - hair cut/highlights in the a.m., dr appt for dmom at 2:30, then Erev Rosh Hashanah services at temple at 7:30 (must be dressed and groomed appropriately to sit on the pulpit also.) I need to figure out what I can reasonably do between the morning appt and picking up dmom - probably need to get her at 1:45 however, and need to leave here at 1 p.m.
Dh came home early and is mowing the yard. I think we're probably snacking for supper tonight.

Dumb question dept: Lucy - why doesn't your DH balance the check book if he wants it done? You are both retired now so chores (including cooking, dishes, bed making, vacuuming, errands to stores, etc.) could be done by both.
We have had a very pleasant day. It is much cooler and we are able to have the windows open to enjoy the breeze.
I haven't accomplished much in the way of trailer ooze but I do have the dishes done - well, except DH is making supper and used a lot of utensils to do that.
Dove: I am trying to get thru the first Unicorn book - at 48% now and I'm still finding it heavy going. This author is a bit like Michener in that you get a lot of background info, that, while interesting, doesn't move the story line along. I think I like it - but I have been reading fluff for the last week or so and have to use my brain a bit more on this one.

Re: TOTH or BOTH Tuesday
I did this:
helped sort the mail
put away load #1 of laundry
worked on 1 story
got my end table arranged
emptied out a tote
told a telemarketer how DH would not be 'interested'.
read my mail and put letters away
got my nightgown out
got out clothes for tomorrow
watched documentaries with DH
crocheted on dgd's afghan
set my dawn simulator for tomorrow
Need to do:
dinner and clean-up
before bed routine
list for tomorrow
get out reading for tomorrow
get to be early, as DH and his dfriend are getting firewood early tomorrow
If I don't get on-line to post for the rest of the day, h

MT, I am sitting here laughing because you have mixed me up with Dove before. Anyway, hang in there with the Unicorn series because it is worth it. (IMHO)
Smoke is getting me down bad. I am very short and nasty with Mr. Guy and he with me and I think it is because we have been shut up for so long trying to stay out of it. I really need a breather - from smoke and HIM.

((Norma)) Think of it as a romance novel and you the heroine, stranded or snowed-in with a handsome man. (Sorry, that's the best I can do. Failing that, maybe you really should visit Cowinkie?)
Twins' Mom, noticing you're thinking about what you'll wear, I was wondering, as a woman sitting on the pulpit, will you be in slacks or a dress? Seems early in the year this year. Hope your dmother's appt goes well and that she is ready without being stressed, and has her questions answered.
Emptynester, happy birthing day and what good news that it's cooler for you. Also good that at least there are clear reasons why part of the arm heals faster than others. Must be frustrating.

Norma: go visit Cowinkie. You need your health and sanity and you are free to leave. Age has some benefits and one of them is that you aren't tied to a job in the are that you have to go to each day.
We had a nice dinner. Need to return a phone call now. Just remembered.

Re: TOTH or BOTH Tuesday
Harriet, I haven't decided. In all there are four "big" services. If I'm sitting on the pulpit (bimah) I usually like to wear pants - I had a nice pair dry cleaned and picked up today. I could also wear either of two skirts that I dropped off for alternations before I left town (both need hemming, one needed taking in in the hips) and any of those three would work with a lightweight cotton cardigan (green, blue, black, red.) I can't think of what else I have that is dressy enough. Yes, HHD are quite early this year, it's going to be hot sitting on the pulpit tomorrow night also.
