LucyLee - sounds like DGS is doing normal things for his age.
I may be a bad Grandmother for thinking this....much less saying it

but I would enjoy the time DGS isn't talking non-stop and is content to stay in playpen. You know how quickly that time passes and turns into the next phase of becoming Speedy Gonzales and Talkative Toddler.
Yesterday LO finished practicing his drums and turned off the timer. Then he reset the timer and announced "I need some quiet time". I had to catch myself to keep from busting out laughing and/or falling onto the floor in shock (LO is never quiet!). ANYway, he started the timer for his self imposed quiet time and guess what he did? He went and got the whistle and started blowing it non-stop (outside). Yup. That time of him being quiet baby are long gone.
Just finished ordering DGS16 some jeans online and had them shipped to his house. I almost didn't do it because he has enough jeans to make it through the week (he does his own washing on the weekend), but I think they are smaller than this size and I reminded myself how important clothes are to teenagers and their self-esteem when they think their clothes don't fit in. We looked for jeans his size and preferred color last weekend but didn't find them. ANYway, DGS16 now has jeans with skinnier ankles headed his way.

OK, LO's activities today are cracking me up. I have a big grin on my face!! Gotta love the little ones.
I second OK, lucylee. Dgs sounds completely normal. And I wouldn't be in a hurry for him to start chattering and running around. There's a wide range of normal. I remember my oldest dnephew was an extremely late talker - I don't remember details, but dsil was very worried and stopped speaking Dutch to him b/c of it. They live in the UK so he was also getting English exposure - maybe the 2 languages was part of the problem. Anyhow, dsil was very conscious that he was way behind other tots his age at the time, but In the end, he has proven to be very bright and went to Oxford med school.
Skippable school class ramblings: Dd15 dropped her Latin class today - b/c the teacher is ho hum.
I'm not completely happy about it. There seems to be a mass exodus out of this class by kids who have had the other Latin teacher and are worried they won't learn much this year. . . . Some kids are planning to study on their own and test out of this class in the summer and slide into Latin IV next year with hopefully the other teacher. Dd15, however, is planning on a year off of languages and then maybe next year, taking the language of the country where we'll be on sabbatical the following year (Sr. year - fall). There is a strong possibility we will go to NL, and she has been talking about taking Dutch at one of the 2 Universities in town. At first, she was talking about doing that this year. I wasn't sure if/how that would work out since the Universities are already in their 2nd week. I also didn't know what that would require of me re: chauffeuring duties. I'm relieved she's given up that idea for this year. *phew* Next year, she could drive herself.
Since dh has spoken only Dutch to the kids since birth, they have a good base. Well, actually, he does speak some English to them now, more and more it seems.
OK, I need to finish unloading the groceries. The 3 girls are sitting in the living room/dining area doing homework.

Good afternoon everyone! We were not able to catch the feral cat so I did not go to the spay/neuter clinic on Sunday. There is a clinic every month, so we will keep trying. At Saturday's cat adoption clinic, I spotted a kitten whose spay incision had opened and gotten infected. A vet trip resulted, but everyone was relieved that it was (a) caught, and (b) went to regular vet rather than emergency room. DD11 had a shock on Friday: she had surgery on her big toe! I had told XDH that it was infected and he got her a doctor's appointment, but no one expected actual surgery! He said he would have given me advance notice if he had any idea. It was done in the doctor's office rather than a hospital, and it was minor, but we were all expecting oral antibiotics, or at worst a shot. DD has had a great time telling everyone how she had to have 5 shots in her toe and it didn't hurt. (They sprayed a numbing spray before the shots). Needless to say, we did NOT go to the amusement park on Sunday. We will go next week, but she is not allowed to go to the water section.
I found some stuff of XDH's that had gotten into one of my boxes, including a 5" floppy disk! Obviously, he had not missed that! I returned his stuff. He handed over some bills that had come to his house for me. It's been two years! I called both. One of them said that they had the new address, but they used the old one for 'followup mailings'. HUH? Of course, one was overdue, but I talked to them.
Tonight is errand night: get cat food (across town) and grocery store. Then I have to start maid prep. I will probably get rid of the maids, not because I am dissatisfied, but because I am broke.

Here's hoping I find some energy tonight because I had a rough night's sleep last night. It included a very fast trip to the washroom and then a bath at 2:30 in the morning... Had a quick, painful stomach ache at work this afternoon and thank goodness the store had a washroom as well. I have also been crying every single time the phone rings. (Literally having tears bursting out of my eyes.) Had a few phone calls to Mike, texts to dd, texts and a long tearful phone call to sister who was up at my dad's.
All in all a bad day and now I need to do either laundry or dusting or hit the hot spot in the bedroom. Probably the hot spot. You know, because it's very close to the bed and I can lay down and sleep or cry or both.

((Cathy)) Warm thoughts of you and glad Mike and sister are there to talk and comfort.
Well, shoot! Dee continues to have serious technical trouble.
She has again emailed a message to our village. Her daughter is trying to help her now with these technical problems. The problems do allow her to get to our site and begin reading, as though everything will be fine, but then she can't continue on to other pages, or post. Very confusing.
She says she did get to enjoy the story of “LO's quiet time” today, and asks me to say “hello” to everyone. Mr. DeeClutter continues to have both successes and struggles with his recovery. He felt better over the weekend, though not quite so well today. Other news from the DeeClutters is that 2 grandchildren are entering 9th grade right now, and the one-year-old is so busy, Dee wonders how his mother keeps up.
She says,
Hoping to get back there consistently before long. I'm having massive "SHE withdrawal".

MT, I hope Mr. Emptynester's chiro appt. went well and that he's in less pain now, too.
CathyS, Do you ever take little cat-naps?
If I'm out of energy from a rough night and a busy yesterday, a cat-nap helps me out. I do mine from 30-50 min., but sometimes an hour, if I'm really ZONKED!
I hope you'll get your energy back sometime this evening.
Thank you, Harriet and Lucylee (I think it was
) about encouraging me about my cards. I've made a a.m. routine card, a p.m. routine card, a card with items to get done this week, which I'd "like" to get done, rather,
and I've not done an afternoon card. I should probably do one because there are so many things, which happen or need to be done in afternoons, too.
Also, a LONG time ago, we were at Borders Books, but they're no longer there, but when they WERE, I loved to shop and get their journals on sale. I did a quick-buy of a "House Notebook", but it mostly just has lined pages interspersed with some black pages.
However, I remembered today, how I'd printed up Zones to my house, from my computer, stapled them in back of this "House Notebook". I got an idea.
It'll take "time" though..... If I take my 3 x 5's, take the Zone cleaning chores, then add them to 3 x 5's and assign if I want to do the chores monthly, or weekly, etc... I can get the entire house on 3 x 5's!
I'm so glad I stapled those lists in the back of the book, which seems useless, but now it's not useless because it WILL be fulfilling a purpose. I guess it's good that I got it then.
DH came back from the woods all dirty. Kitty cat got me all hairy from our Yoga/stretches this a.m., and yesterday, when I was putting the clean bathroom rugs back into the bathroom, little fibers and filaments off the rugs got on my jeans.
I'm washing 3 pairs of jeans (1 is mine; 2 are DH's). I accidentally was sitting in the recliner and went out like a light bulb to sleep for 50 minutes. I woke up, didn't know what show was on, because it was different from the one on TV when I went to sleep, and the clock time was different! I didn't know what happened to me!
Then, the mail came, so I decided to use my large one-sheet-per-letter paper with the lines, which are narrow because I can get a lot of information onto those papers. My mind isn't in the "time-set" to write a story this afternoon, so I'm going to do letters, to get caught up. There are about 6 letters or 7. Once I get caught up, I can move back onto my SHE cards project. Well, that's about it from here, as far as my day speeding by goes.
I wanted to say that I'm so glad there is a thread here all about SHE cards and 3 x 5's, too. It's helpful to read tips and to learn more things. I'm appreciative that's here.
Have a good evening, Everybody!
I enjoyed reading about the baby, too!
Oh, I just am reading here, CathyS, how your stomach ache's been acting up. I have those days myself and I cry when I think about my Dsis moving over 1,000 miles (by roads) away from me and about how a 97-year-old Dfriend is failing. I can't help it. I'll think about them, and here comes the tears. When loved ones are slowly journeying to the end, it's so difficult on everyone who loves them; friends AND family. Maybe you can cry yourself to sleep. That might help you to feel better this evening. I'll say a prayer for you, too. Take care.

Oh, (((
Cathy)))... I just wish there was something I could say to make this better. In some ways, our experience was so much easier, at least for me, b/c I really had no idea my ddad was so sick until the very last 24-48 hours. I think dmom always knew that it was not going to end well, but ddad looked and sounded so well -- up until that last weekend. So I did not have to face what you are dealing with now. And my saying that probably helped nothing at all. I'm just trying to say, that even though I lost my ddad 4 months ago, I know everyone's experience is different and nothing about any of it is easy... I am just so sorry... (((BIG HUGS)))... Just know that each of us has you in our hearts and prayers through these difficult days.
(((
Elizabeth's DD))) Is she walking around in one of those big "boots" now too, like my dmom?
ROFLOL @
LO's version of "quiet time"!!!
Thanks for the reassurance,
helia &
OKay. Y'all know me... I just have to have
something to worry about, I guess. As dh said tonight, ds & ddil are both pretty quiet, reserved types, for the most part. They both have a really good sense of humor, but they are not loud and boisterous. I just look forward sooo much to being able to talk to him and know what he's thinking... and being able to read books to him. If he enjoys turning the pages now, surely the day will come when he will want to know what the words say, too!
Ooohhh... and if late talking = Oxford medical school... * whew * Yes. I'll quit worrying.
I am so sorry to hear dd was having a bad experience w/Latin,
helia. I'm sure it will all work out in the end though; she is obviously somewhat bilingual already. That is so amazing.
OKay -- that was so sweet of you to order older dgs new jeans. You are a wonderful grandmother!
Well... eldercare situation here w/dmil was frustrating. Dmil apparently authorized C harter to switch her phone service from A T & T to C harter... AND add internet.

Good grief. Dmil doesn't even own a computer. DH stayed on phone with them approx 45 minutes w/no good result. A T & T has been canceled, so she would have to call them and ask for new service if she switched back. They did agree to drop internet. Then JUST NOW, about an hour after dh hung up phone, she called and said they were coming tomorrow for something. We told her this is probably the previously scheduled internet installation, that she should just tell the man she cancelled it today and she is sorry he did not get the message.
I'm scared to even call my dmom and see how physical therapy went (for her foot.)
* sigh *

My dd phoned just after I posted here. She gave me an ever-elusive "I love you" which made me feel so much better.
My relationship with my sister has really improved and there was an "I love you" from her today too.
I'm just really tired and emotional.

Oh my, Lucylee, you may need to figure out a way to keep a closer eye on your mother's affairs. If she didn't actively source out a new phone company, then she is obviously susceptible to scammers selling her things and/or services over the phone or in person. This is not good and could lead to major financial issues for her. What if she gets hit with one of the banking scams?
Just last weekend I got a call that started with "this is your Visa card bank calling" and I cut him off and asked which bank was it? Him, "Uhmmmm, Royal?" Me, "Nope." "CIBC?" Me, "Nope, and you don't know what the h*ll you are talking about so f*** off." and I hung up. I have no patience for such scammers and hope such aggressive behaviour gets my number removed from their call log as opposed to highlighted as a likely target.
I also don't do any phone surveys. There's a reason. About 25 years ago, I was asked to do a quick survey about local police service which quickly turned into an obscene phone call. I reported that one to the police and the officer that came out to the house told me never to participate in any phone surveys. That was before the Web but such 'old fashioned' scams are still around, partly because we are often more focused on email scams and forget about good old-fashioned cons.
