I would think that even engineers, the computer/intellectual types, would benefit from some hands-on experience, too... the kind of "tinkering"
helia's dh was talking about. Even when the world revolves around technology... someone has to put that technology to a real wood and nuts and bolts kind of reality. I'm just thinking about my ddad, who was not an
engineer, by degree, (I think he had two years of college) but retired as a drafting supervisor in engineering from Monsanto/Solutia. He could draw anything -- house plans, mechanical blueprints, etc... and by the time he retired, all the drawing was done on the computer, no more pencil and paper. But I have to think some of his ability stemmed from the fact that he was also a mechanically-minded person to begin with, and had sooo much physical experience with auto repair, building construction, and all that sort of thing. And then of course, in his "retirement" he returned to the physical side of the work, and started his own construction company.
Another question though... I'm wondering how much space it will take on my computer to save all my posts? I do enjoy looking back at where I was a year ago... two years ago... etc.
Wow. Two years ago... waiting for dgs to arrive the following morning.
I'll never forget watching ds, my little Vulcan-Spock son, walking on air down those hospital halls with such joy that morning.
