Helia, I find it so nice that your DD enjoys sewing. So few kids take it up these days. Neither of my DD's knows how to sew.

Speaking of sewing, I've had an idea and I was in W-M buying more honey and lemon for the tea DH has been drinking... and I looked at their patterns. At Christmas baking time, DD1 put her apron (skirt type) on DGD, fastening it up under her arms. They did Christmas cookies together. I got a cute child's pattern for a bib-type apron with a gathered skirt. Hope to make it for her birthday this summer. I think I might have enough pinks and purples from her quilt to make it.

On the way home I took another street through our neighborhood and found nearby 5 houses with all their Christmas lights still on! So, it's not just the 3 on my street. I don't think I've ever seen lights this late.

I was writing the check for our water bills and decided to look at the rental house file and I got that all finished for the year and ready for the CPA. I paid all the other bills on my desk so I can take it all and mail it when I'm out Monday. I have a dr. apt. and I'll go to the post office after that.

So, a lot accomplished today even though I had intended to take the day off.

Lilac, sorry your DH did not get better service, but at least they did not keep him.

Thanks Harmony. I take no credit for dd16's sewing. I can't really sew myself. I used to; that is one thing my dmom made sure I knew how to do. However, the last time I touched a sewing machine, about 13 years ago, the thread knotted into a big ball. I cleared it all -- and the same phenomenon occurred again. And again. After that, I just gave up. . .Dd16 says that with new machines, I'd probably do better. Some day, I'll try that.

If anyone is interested, d16 first got started sewing at a day camp that a woman not far from here runs in her home for children. I think dd19 wanted to go, and dd16 wanted to try it too. At some point, a small group of dd16's friends back then (age 7 or 8?) were all going to the day camp together. Then, dd16 took weekly sewing classes from the same woman for a couple years. Then, she felt she had learned all she could from her and switched to a weekly lesson on clothes design with a friend from church who used to run a business designing and selling children's clothing. However, she went out of business, and so the design lessons stopped after about 9 months.

Well, I updated laundry, folded and put away 3? small lols. I remade the twin bed in dd19s room. It originally had a nice quilt on it that my mom had made. It was additionally adorned with dozens of tubes of dd19's acrylic paint and a painted canvas (not sure how long ago)!! Ack!! One of the tubes was open. . . Fortunately, no paint got on the quilt. Dd19 didn't quite understand my concern. I remade the bed with a couple old fleece blankets, mainly for the dogs who will jump on that bed. Maybe also for the paint.

I'm going to go to bed. Sweet dreams all.

Edited this out and put info on dd16's etsy in MO. Not sure it really matters, but I feel better about that.

Harmony, sewing an apron for a granddaughter - you are about to make me swoon.

Nancy, I think it's cool that after buying the Jeep you and dh kept up with your plan for dates in it. I remember you weighing the purchase and thinking of that idea.

blessed, I think you did remarkably well in entertaining young ladies in family from far away. Of course they would have confusion about how much distance/trouble it would be to do various things, and there was bound to be disappointment, but I'm sure they will remember this as a lovely vacation. Memories with your dds may be called to mind for them, long into the future.

Twins' I wanted to second your thought on reducing volunteer time helping to simplify life. Often, others benefit when volunteer positions open up and they can help, too.

I can't sew. Dmom used to sew all the time. Both my grandmothers sewed... I took one year of home-ec in school and made a few items, but nothing I ever wanted to wear anywhere. It would be a nice talent to have -- especially now that monogrammed items are so popular and the newer machines can do such cute styles of lettering. I guess that's not really SEWING, as in making a dress -- but I suppose one would need to be comfotrable with the machine, and I would NOT be.

Just read that "no one" takes piano lessons anymore, also. Another lost art.

Well, I am in bed, dosed up again w/Tylenol etc. kinda achy. Headache. I really feel I should go to church tomorrow -- I mean, if I have managed 3 ball games and that long drive... Well, I should be able to manage church, right? I'll set the clock and give it a try.
