dd younger made a fantastic skirt steak sandwich from Jamie Oliver new cook book she bought today
it was skirt steak lightly marinated with olive oil and rosemary sprinkled with kosher salt and pepper - grilled for a short time and then let sit in its juices - sliced
onions lightly caramelized - with a bit of brown sugar, fresh bay leaves and I don't know what else (super)

on a chibata bread, dijon mustard, lettuce with a bit of lemon juice, tomato, steak and above onions and juices from the steak
it was a wow - She is becoming an excellent cook

Today I made a big pot of chili (using up leftover beans and tomato sauce from the fridge) and also a loaf of banana bread.

sounds delicious d elly!!!

dd younger has taken over most of the cooking now that she is home temporarily. She keeps getting better and better. She has surpassed me in many areas and she is only 19. She has my grandmothers gift. :D

I cooked bottom round steak in the crockpot with a tiny bit of salt, lots of pepper and a jar of pimentos--and a bit of water, maybe a quarter cup. Shred the meat before serving. It is so tender and the red peppers spiced it up a little. We ate this over brown rice with sauteed green beans on the side.

beef in a crock pot with veggies makes the meat so tender... sounds lovely d Elly!

The day before yesterday I made a big pot of minestrone soup - dd younger wanted something a little more substantial and added a couple really small pieces of raw bratwurst to her soup as it was heating up and some parmesan - it was really tasty but I left mine the same. dd older added pesto but dd younger is allergic to nuts.

Since everyone was in and out of the house we had left overs

Sounds good! Speaking of soup...I had a hankering for tomato soup this week and tried some experimenting. I used a jar of spaghetti sauce and 4 cups of chicken stock. To this I added a drained can of mixed vegetables. I loved the results--ate it all myself over several days while dh was away this week. He doesn't like tomato soup anyway.
