That sounds like a wonderful trip for dd18, helia. In a way I envy her, because Haiti, to my limited knowledge about recent history, is a country that received a low percentage of worldwide humanitarian response to a high amount of devastation. I'm sure that was partially because the initial disaster transformed later, with domino effect of things like water contamination leading to disease - things that didn't make the headlines in the same instant way.

Ah, LadyMav, so young and taking care of a youngster. We're probably all different in parenting at different ages. Some traits increase with an adult's age, I think. HRH was always a soft-hearted parent, which dstepson remembers to us often. The other day when HRH and I kept my green-eyed boy, nothing would do except that we provide ice cream. I would have never bothered with that fleeting request - there was no ice cream in the house and the child can eat what we've got, especially when he's 2 and forgets what he wanted very easily. But guess who made a special trip out for ice cream.

I think also it's more definite when you're older and realize you're tired of a behavior. You just find out together there's no space for that in this particular adult's brain any more. And so that's the teaching that takes place, which might be different from your 30s, but both real. So many times over the last few years I've said to one of the boys, "Not at Grandma's house, you don't." :|

In the lull after the passing of some of the hurricane's bands, which were mostly just threats (more to come), 3 beautiful wild turkeys paraded along in front of our house. One began to display his feathers and we were just seeing what a huge display it was going to be when some telemarketer phoned and the ringing from the house stopped him. :x They stalked off as if to say, can't you folks keep it down.

Made another cobbler today because dstepson was over. The storm threats kept me from errands. So tomorrow - which may be a bad date for it - I need to go out. HRH picked up completely different items that were on his mind, from the home improvement place, on his way home. So his attention to errands was not a waste at all - just doesn't answer all the needs.

lucylee, I would assume a recent death in a family would mean plans would change this time. Is it possible some folks are just assuming their celebrating is off this year during the grieving? Maybe I have a different branch of the family in my mind.

LadyM is definitely older than me but 1) doesn't look it, 2) doesn't act it and 3) doesn't let a stupid number tell her what she can and can't do. If I knew her secret, I'd sell it and make a fortune but analyzing her for those few days, I seriously can't see what she does that is different from average people, but she certainly gets different results!

At this point I'm holding her out as an example of how amazing I'll be in 5 years!

I'm home again.

Biked with dd to the store for a bike part for her, then came home and went out to lunch at IKEA (at 3:30!), out to the house to air it, picked up mail and then dh's dinner. Because I ate so late I ended up just having a piece of salmon and a salad. We are supposed to be watching a movie now but the throughput on the internet in the living room is too slow. I already knew that from my computer. Quite often I have to carry it to the kitchen or office in order to connect to the internet.

Harmony (and Cats and the rest of you who have commented on my heel pain.) Thanks for your long, detailed, post. FF gave me good pointers at the beginning. I've been using ice from time to time, but not regularly. I've got a foot massager already and use it multiple times a day. The stretches before getting out of bed aren't working for me. But a similar stretch is part of my physio for my knee so I'm doing that as often as possible (trying for daily.)

Today may be a bit better, certainly biking was a bit better but I still can't dismount so lower the bike to the ground and step over it to get off. Someday I'll be able to dismount properly. It made people laugh in front of the outdoor store so it is good for something.

Cats I'm afraid of chiropractors but will keep it in mind. I can't stand my body being touched at all, though so not likely is that going to be an option. People talk about therapeutic massages, but I'd have to be pretty well dead before authorizing one.

We have a brunch to attend tomorrow on the holiday but after the weekend I'm getting my hands on the few cards I have and doing an evaluation of them in an attempt to utilize the system to get myself moving. The difficulty may be that I will find I have too much actual movement impairment physically that it will slow things down even should I manage to get myself fired up inspirationally -- I shall hope that is NOT the case. I am lower case indy and had pared the cards down to one card which held ALL dailies, and six or seven cards for the BWP items which I had modified to include the Zones (I did like the division of Zones a lot as the floorplan of my house fits that idea to perfection). I also have a set of four cards for listing seasonal chores -- I used different colors for these three types of cards and threw in some pink cards for personal lists/inspirational and such for myself. I was just beginning to start again about 6 yrs ago and then i fell into a deep hole so it didn't take off. It has been a rough half dozen years in several ways not least of which was home hospice care in our home for my mother the last nine months of her life -- the hardest thing I have ever had to do bar none but we did it and while DH is not the most supportive spouse in many ways I must say he did a great share of the hard work there though he also did his share of sdisappearing regularly while I rarely got to do so -- she was, after all my mother though. I spent one year since then totally hiding out inside books -- truly an attempt to keep body and soul together -- but I'm in a better balance recently and need to tackle the jobs which have been in need for a decade as well as the regular household routines again with some focus in mind. I still have my Eeyore avatar file somewhere here so will try to repost that one day next week. If anyone rememebers -- my little long-haired, piebald dachshund -- he is still with me even though we thought he was going to be gone back in Oct -- he had a very serious bad spell -- and even with several hundred dollars of tests no conclusion as to what was wrong -- who knows -- so I'm very grateful for him being back to his old self -- he keeps me halfway sane most days. Will probably not post till next week once I find the cards and am ready to give it a go! indy

We needed to scratch previous plan A for the evening and develop a Plan B

Plan B included a trip to big town
** bath & body @mall to hit the semi-annual 75% off of my favorite lotion. I buy them a dozen bottles at a time so the savings is worth the trip.
** Sam's for vehicle gas, AAA batteries, milk, rotisserie chicken and Lattice Apple Pie. OH MY! The pie wasn't on my buy list but it looked soooo good that it came home with us. We already sampled it and it taste as good as it looks. With DH diabetes, it is rare that we have real sweet treats.

Next up -
** LO bath & bed routine
** log incoming papers

LOL! I think you have me confused with someone else! I am the lazy one in my family. I'm the one that is "always fooling around with that computer". I always feel like I don't do enough when I compare myself to DH or my family. They get much more accomplished than I do. They typically keep working when they are hurt and/or sick. DH just walked out the door to put in another 3-4 hours at MPB. He will be home around midnight. Me? I'm going to put LO and myself to bed. Sweet Dreams.

Hi again! I have done some job search activities, but don't have much confidence in them. However, I need to do SOMETHING almost every day on it and eventually SOMETHING will turn up. I took a computer break and folded a LOL and made tea. Then, I returned to the computer to type up yet more animal org minutes. I think I have two more meetings to go. Other stuff I would like to do is: study some Java (but need a computer break now) and rehang some closet doors. I think I will get something to eat first. The knit/crochet group is meeting tomorrow, lunch with friends is probably off, the appliance store is having a huge sale, and I have volunteer duty at the cathouse tomorrow afternoon. The X and the other woman invited me to 4th of July at their (was our) house, but I pleaded prior commitment. If I am seen interacting socially with them (except for when necessary for DD12), it will appear I am condoning adultery (both his and hers). I will maintain scrupulous politeness, but they cannot expect me to be their friend! In fact, given a choice between hanging out socially with them and enjoying my own company studying at home, I would take the latter! However, I will be watching fireworks from the church parking lot with some REAL friends.

Harriet -- it seems the cousins are doing their usual thing -- they were talking about it right in front of my dmom at funeral dinner two weeks ago -- and dmom spoke up and said, "Well, I haven't really been invited to this but I am assuming you would like my macaroni and cheese?" And daunt laughed and said, "of course you are invited!" But since dmom sorta had to invite herself, now she's wondering if they really want the rest of us or not.
So...
I just don't want to be forgotten about, now that ddad is gone and dmom is such a hermit, you know?
Dmil's dad died when she was two, and her family did become virtually non-existent to his family.
I don't really think that's what is happening here though -- I think dmom is right -- they are just all really preoccupied since dcousin's death and they've all got a lot of other stuff going on as well.
Tomorrow is another day.

another word about sore feet
- Try an epsom salt soak
- I put a feather pillow under the covers at the foot of my bed. It helps me with the pointy toe while I sleep inclination, and also takes away the weight of winter bedding.

I managed not to re-hurt my foot today so there is no intense ouch factor, though my limp is still there a little.
Uneven surfaces, or banging it down were a problem.
Just begin.
Living this day, today
Take a reality check; Remember to breathe; Do what I am able to do.
Look for the good in all.
