Harriet - You need to know the history. Prev election the govt was thrown out, and only got 7 seats out of 89.
That govt thought it could make lots of changes, and it did.
People thought - whoooa.
Further back in time, it had been the other mob who were chucked out and left with less than 10 members.
So. It happens. I really think arrogance is a big part. Sometimes stupidity. Sometimes other stuff.
Some seats - just stay with the same person through it all.
The funny thing - after prev election an unknown woman took the leadership. We still struggle with her name.
The likely premier.
Wondering about where the state goes now. Hoping everyone is up to learning on their feet.

LM so sorry LO is sick again. And that you have another caring role it seems.
Agreeing - Try to limit information given to 'those parents'. I don't think there is an easy answer as to who to trust, or not. Generational long term knowing of families does not seem totally foolproof.
Some who are not trustworthy are very good at appearing 'wholesome', and who just seem 'lonely' or 'charismatic' are more devious than their image suggests. Think of people in the news in recent times, and all those inquiries our governments have of institutional abuse, and the looking good folk behind those.
I'd just say one of following, or so, depending on how annoyed I got with the conversation , and try to end it.
- He is not allowed on sleepovers. I stay at any party he goes to, if we decide he may go. He can't go to everything he is invited to.
I'm sorry - I'm not going to discuss this further. What part of no don't you understand?

Church this am. Asked a friend for prayers for dd2 and parenting. Outlined why - she said - that's a trap. (that style of parenting) Same comment as pdoc. (his suggestion was teaching resilience. Not sure how to suggest that to dd and her dh.

LO made a quick turn around. His fever disappeared and he asked for something to eat. He was sick for a grand total of about 6 hours! I'm keeping him home tomorrow to make sure he isn't contagious and is totally over whatever he had.

I do treasure your input into decision on how to handle LO situations. I am usually confident in what the right thing is to do, but sometimes I get stumped.

You know, thinking of sleepovers, I don't really remember staying with anyone except grandparents, aunts & uncles, and first cousins (and I'm the oldest) -- until I was probably in at least 3rd grade... and probably older than that.

DH said he only spent the night with one friend, and he hated it. LOL. DH was "set in his ways" early. He wanted to be in his own bed when bedtime came.
I think ds was a lot the same way, although now he travels with different people all the time and seems to be content wherever he finds himself.

Anyway -- sooo glad LO is feeling better!!! Still, wise to stay in tomorrow.

Lynlee, I want to read more about the situation there. It sounds like a lot of turmoil, not entirely like our own. * sigh *

FF... for goodness sake! 3 hours when they wanted you to be seen within an hour??? Sooo frustrating.

Oh no, Sunny! That sounds terrible about dh's fall! Glad y'all got him taken care of, but that must have been such a rough 3 hours at your house, too.
L pitor is for cholesterol control, isn't it? DH is always afraid doctor is going to put him on cholesterol meds and he (dh) is very adamant that he doesn't want to take it. If this is one of the side effects, I can certainly see why.

I wish dinlaws had taught dh more about etiquitte with a girl's father. * sheesh * Could have saved me a lot of trouble. DH was understandably very standoff-ish w/ddad, and neither of us knew how important it was that dh ASK ddad for my hand when we got engaged. BIG mistake. * sheesh *
But in dinlaws' defense, dmil was raised by a mother who was widowed when dmil was 2 years old. Dmil was the youngest of 7 children so I imagine her dmom had all she could do to survive. I also am pretty sure they were all what Dr. James Dobson would define as "strong-willed" children. Dfil was the youngest of 4, but his mother died when he was 11, and the other three children were already older teens/young adults, and so for most of the time, it was just dfil and his elderly father, who pretty much let dfil do as he pleased. I guess by the time dfil was a teenager, his ddad had forgotten exactly how he went about asking for his own bride some 40 years before.

We had a situation where the boy's parents didn't come for a LONG time to pick up their child after a birthday party here at our house.
That kid and ds remained friendly for years, but definitely grew apart as they got into high school. They played some sports together, but the friend gave up sports, got into drugs -- actually ended up arrested for selling to an undercover officer at school -- but by that time ds clearly knew he needed to keep his distance and so it was more a matter of just curiosity for us, not an issue that really affected our family.

And I still don't know why it takes me till mid-afternoon to get anything accomplished but I have gotten some things done and I feel much better now.

Wow, how did you figure that out, Sunny? I don't see where anyone can tell the number of posts or am I looking past it? I see the number of posts under any particular 'new' topic, but not a grand total. Hmmmm.........what am I missing?

Yes, LucyLee... It was "hurry-up-and-wait"! We got to see some pretty adorable little kids there though. They were sick, but so cute. There was a couple of elderly people, with masks on, coughing up a storm. Now I'm "hoping" I won't pick up anybody's germs. You just need to take your chances, especially when it cannot be helped at this time of year.

DH turned on Liam Neeson's movie called "Non-Stop," about a Marshall on a flight and it's an action-packed movie. He's such an awesome actor! We've seen "Taken 1" & "Taken 2" a few times, each, too. Wow. Amazing movies. Too scary, but exciting, riveting and on-the-edge-of-your-seat good!

LadyM, I mentioned that couple to my DH, told him LO's age, etc... and DH said "He doesn't need to stay overnight with them! OR ANY KID! You have to be careful with your kids. We were with ours, too." It's so true, too. DH was holding DD's hand, walking across the street when she was 13. She was very, very petite and yes, we were protective, too. She's 43 now, and our kids are great adults. I think parents have the right to be careful with their kids. It goes with the territory and our kids grow up all the better for it, too, when we use our "intuition." Also, I've read books, stories, etc... where women used their intuition and they always say how a woman, especially, and mothers have this innate instinct, which is built-in and they "just know". They said it's not a bad thing to rule on your instinct either and the books and articles I've read say how good of a thing it is, to draw our on intuitions. I'm so glad you're perceptive enough to go with your gut! GO, YOU!

Lucylee - Mostly it isn't as dramatic as this. At times the one party has been in power for 20 years or best part of that. Problem is, sometimes they lose sight of their own fallibility, and need to be reminded when/if they become totally daft. Both sides been in that situation over the last 50 years.
Often its just a couple of things that gets people's backs up, and of course the opposition makes a big play on that.. Reactions and counter reactions.
The main difference in our state is that ?decades ago (before I know about) a govt went asking to be elected to get rid of the state senate to save money on politicians, and they were elected, and they culled the senate, so now, who we vote for is what we get. Winning party elects their leader who becomes Premier.
Federally half the senate gets replaced at each election, so the govt usually has to deal with the opposition a little more to get things through. Depending on how elections have gone over the last decade.

Here - 4 seats still in too tight to call basket. If the old govt gets them all, it stays in power. Chances are someone might appeal ... perhaps.
Old Premier is out, lost his seat.Though I think technically - he is still premier until a new govt is sworn in.

Nice prayers in church today for elected govt.

I should bite my tongue, but the US system sometimes has problems of its own, perhaps none is completely foolproof.

I am washing up some jackets, 1 to a load, while the weather is cooler and we can wear heavier coats.

I figured I might as well work on that because I'm upset over a death in the family and the circumstances on dh's side. I don't know how soon I will be tired enough to go to bed.

After 2 doses of the antibiotic, dh hasn't had a problem yet.

I fixed 3 small eye of round roasts today that weighed over 7 pounds total. I ended up fixing mashed potatoes, gravy, etc. We each only had 1 thick slice. I now have an 8 x 8
T upperware container full of slice beef. I am curious if dh will still want to go to the Super Bowl Party. There are times something sounds like fun and then when it comes down to it, he would rather stay home.

I can't remember if I posted that dd1 and her dh were going to see dgs20 today and at noon she wanted me to go let the 3 dogs out and to change Ruby's diaper. I had a hard time changing that diaper, due to my gagging, repeatedly.

Dd2, the 2 little girls and I went dgs10's game. The girls were so restless that I opted to watch them at their house while dd2 went to dgs9's game.

Dd2 called awhile ago all upset with her dh. He told her that his dm, ddad and 1 of his sisters were coming by after church to see their countertops. So dd2 will be spending this evening and in the morning cleaning. She was irritated because she won't be able to go to church due to all the cleaning she will be doing.

I wonder how BookSavers Fancy Nancy Party at the library went.

I am glad that LO is feeling better and hope no one else gets it.

Poor HRH. It's hard for me to believe that his little girl is old enough to date, so I can see why he feels that way.

I seen Dove's light on, so I hope they didn't lose power and she was just checking in afterwards.

FF, I know how hard it is to wait at the ER. Ours has improved. They have a triage area now and they determine just where you need to be and who should be taking care of you.

Nancy, that is great that you found the wagon you were wanting.

Sunny, I am glad that you and your dh were finally able to get him up. I take a generic RX for cholesterol. Guess I better check that out.

Guess I better go. I am now washing the 2nd load of jeans. Once they are hung up, I need to head to bed.
