I have mowed!

Noticed that two roses blooming 1st ones of the year! Yea!
Pink rugusa and yellow think yellow rose of Texas type.

Snowball bush on the fence line in neighbor's back yard is blooming I have a nice view of that!
Weeded & worked up a small patch of earth by my deck and planted Spanich seeds, it's next to the house
under the eves.

we have really bad Japanese beetle damage every year.

I hurt my lower back - I have never hurt my lower back - I did work outside and I had the young man her yesterday and he planted the new trees - they are tiny now but will fill in over the years.
I wish I would have done this 20 years ago.

I've enjoyed hearing about everyone 's daffodils. Ours are now over, but my roses are flowering.Well, to be strictly accurate, three flowers have opened on my faithful Cecile Brunner rose on the patio (she is always early and reliable with her flowers) and I have a bud opening on my Allgold rose in the front garden. The rest are at that tantalising stage of lots of buds, but no colour yet!

I've planted my summer bedding plants - geraniums massed in the little border by the gate that gets all the sun, more geraniums in pots to go along the fence, begonias in a pot o cover the manhole cover in my front garden, and in another pot for the corner of the patio, and some Alyssum in a pot near the furniture, so we can hopefully enjoy its fragrance.

wonderful! our daffodils are blooming in sunny areas but the rest are just budding up.

I think most of you have a very much longer season than here. I won't put flowers out till June. Blooming roses already. Kittykat is in England. Very coastal most of the climate I think.

But dh got me a big step ahead by finding the rocks for my one flowerbed. I think i will move them out a bit and make it a bit bigger. But it's started. Yay. I didn't ask him to

Blessed, Laura is right, and I live in the SW of England. Although the latitude is nearly as far north as Alaska, due to the Gulf Stream we have a very maritime climate, with fewer extremes of temperature. We don't usually go much below freezing in winter - maybe -5C? -10 C is an Event! ( Of course, up on the moors and further north does get considerably colder!)

I got intrigued by the ratings and he UK usual uses the RHS plant hardiness scales, which go the other way ie a lower number indicates the plant is more tender! I found a very helpful page which explains the differences.

Laura, how kind of DH to start your flower bed - what are you planning to grow in it this year?

I think that one is going to get the basic petunias and a few other bright annuals. Maybe a couple decor things?

I want to do the one by the house more perrenial. I have some geraniums and i think it's yellow loose strife? There's ginormous monks hood all down in my lower bed. Buried in weeds and still in water. I'm amazed even the daffodils are still alive. Oh and the lady's mantle. But you can't see it down there so I will hopefully break them up and take a few pieces. Along with other things. If I can get to it before the plants get too big .

I weeded some of the unwanted grasses on the border
before they went to seed.

Mowed in front.
Rolled up the hose in back I'll mow in back tomorrow, X
Watered the seeds I put out.

Yay. My little round rock bed is ready. It will be another month till I plant it cause that is just the climate here. Have to be careful with flowers it can freeze the odd nights in early June yet.

The sun is coming out again and I shall get back outside.
