RR, Ddil had 3 ocipital nerve block surgeries 3 weeks ago in the hospital for very painful headaches. She was in bed for 1 week, with headaches, but our Dson made her go to ER. They admitted her. She's taken 2 weeks off, is going back to work, and is very tired, but they have 7 kids, too, though. I hope if you get the block done, it works for you.
I've lost the weight I'd gained in 1 week, by this morning, so I'm happy with that.
I did yoga, Pilates and scoliosis stretches for exercise. I didn't walk again, but was in too much pain, so concentrated on the stretching exercises. I was too tight in the upper back, neck and shoulders, especially where the scoliosis curve is.
My left ankle's sore today, too. But I've been doing LOL, etc... and have been back and forth to the office, etc... I've been getting activity in, in other words.
Nancy, Your walking route sounds like a good one, to me.
LadyM, I like deadlines. I think they're motivating.
WTG, Harriet!
It's motivating to have all that work done because it really pays off in the long run, don't you think?
Dinner's an oven dinner with a lot of protein in it. I need protein because of the muscles with Fibromyalgia and my Hypothyroidism book stated that getting more protein in, was good for that, too.
I love it when we all learn new things, don't ya'll, too?

FF... I always had my shots/blocks done in the drs office. My shots were given at the base of my skull where my head and neck meet. I usually was given one shot, although the last time the dr gave me two.
Sweetie came with me the last time. I got my shots. I wanted him to clearly understand what he was getting himself into by partnering up with me. I was prepared for one shot, but the dr said he wanted to increase the amount of meds and so he gave me two.
The shots are so painful that many people can't tolerate them...maybe thats why your dd got them in the hospital. I always had to mentally prepare myself for the shot, steal myself then hold my breath and try not to cry out when the dr gave it to me. He fooled me the last time. Because he had increased the amout of meds...steriods...in the shot, it hurt far more than usual. After the first shot, I said to the doc...just give me a minute. To which he answered..Alright... and then shot me before I could say another word. Good thing because I think he knew I was ready to jump off the table and refuse the second shot.
I am just in a wave of headaches now....it usually happens about this time every year...I woke with another one today. It takes all that I have to make it through the day especially when I get into one of these patterns. I get to the point where I don't think I can do this another day...the continuose pain just plain wears me out...and then the headaches stop and I'm free of pain for weeks and sometimes months.
This morning I was in my walk-in closet putting on my clothes and I just wanted to cry, but I can't do that cause it makes my head hurt even more lol...Thats when I have to stop, breath and realize this won't go on for ever. I just tell myself.. I've been through this before, set my mind straight and proceed with the day. Others have it worse and when I remind myself of that it really seems to help.

(((RR))), How long do the block shots last? I thought Ddil said she had ocipical (sp?) nerve block surgeries. Maybe I mis-read that email.
She was in the hospital at the time, was probably medicated and sleep-deprived, too. In the hospital, people cannot seem to sleep.
At least, I needed to go "home" to get my rest.
Does the Autumn season or turn of the season, have something to do with getting more headaches?
My Dr. told me that I'd be especially susceptible to having more asthma issues, during the Spring and Autumn months, because of pollen and the changes in the weather. I don't know if that holds true for the cluster headaches, too, or not.
Those shots sound terrifying and so painful. So they put steroids in the block shots? Interesting. It gives me more info on what Ddil endured, too. She has 7 kids, 3 are 21 months - 5.5 and 4 are 11 - 17.5. 6 boys, 1 girl. So their household can get loud. The older boys help out with the 3 youngest ones though. She said her headaches were better, but she was terribly exhausted. Do you get exhaustion, when going through the pain, the shots, etc.., too?
I have problems with osteoarthritis, scoliosis and fibromyalgia. Days can be "challenging", sometimes, with a lot of discomfort and pain. A lot of people don't "understand" it at all, don't show any empathy, because you "don't look sick."
Then, what's known as "fibro fog" has you appearing like you can't remember your own name, let alone anyone else's. It's stressful, too. But that only causes more pain, so you de-stress with yoga, exercise, and relaxing things like crochet, reading, and music. Or take a nap- if you can. The Dr. and other experts I've read, say movement is good, but when you wake in the morning, the pain can be unbearable. So my instinct is to NOT move, but this just makes me stiffer and more painful.
One author explained it like this: She said to picture a cement mixer truck, when you think about the fibromyaliga body. When the barrel carrying the cement is moving, the rocks are subtle, they move, and are looser. If that barrel stops moving, the cement mixture turns into cement, it's stiff, and stuck. So she says for every 30 - 40 minutes of sitting, get up and move around for 5 - 10 minutes. She also said, often times, people can find out they can move even more than 10 minutes, between rest periods and keep moving. I use a timer when I log short stories, get up and move around, to do other things in the house. It helps a lot.
Good luck with the ocipital nerve blocks. When will you get them done? I hope they last for months and not just weeks.

Ff... I usually get 3 months of relief. Depending on the time of year the relief can be longer. Most of my cycles occurs during the fall and spring with only an occasional one occurring in the winter and summer. Cluster headaches differ from regular migraines in that I can go for several months without having one. And no one knows what causes them. Unlike other migraines I have no triggers.
Some people with regular migraines get them once a week or every two week all year round and there is usually a pattern. Weather, foods, wine, chocalate things like that including menstrual cycles can cause migrains. Mine has no pattern except that once I get into a cycle I just know they will keep coming until they stop.
If your dd is like me the fatigue comes after the migraine. The chemicals in your body assaults you physically for hours on end until you become physically exhausted from trying to fight it. I am so tired after a headache that it usually takes my body a day to recover.... Plus my head hurts like an overworked muscle and is sore to touch. I also have a difficult time thinking and functioning and walk around feeling "stupid". I call these my "headache hangovers" cause if you've ever had one its just how it feels.
When I get one of my "killer" headaches which is far worse than my regular ones, I usually end up on the bathroom floor. That's because I get sick to my stomach. During those I can't even talk and raise my pinky finger to let Sweetie know I'm alive. Even that takes all the effort I can muster.
I have said many times if my house caught on fire and I was down on the floor I wouldn't be able to get up to get out of the house. Sounds drastic, but because I am so into myself fighting the pain that I don't really think I could get up to get out. I have to keep my meds in the bottom of my cabinet because once I go down on the floor I can't get up to get my meds if they are somewhere else. Once my headache was so bad I wanted to call 911. Sweetie was gone and my phone was four feet away from me. I couldn't move to get it. Eventually Sweetie came home and had to carry me to bed. Riding in a car is excrutiating as well.

RR, Is riding in the car excruciating at any time, or only during the headaches?
Ddil hasn't ever said or mentioned she has migraines, so I don't know why, all-of-a-sudden she was plagued by such a bad one, at home, lasting 1 full week.
She doesn't mention her health a whole lot. I don't know if she's a more private person or if she doesn't have time to or doesn't want us to worry.
Those shots sound terrible. Is your base of the skull, where you get them, sore afterwards, too?
I get ocular migraines and occasionally, if I'm stressed (rarely have had this though) I can get a migraine or if I've eaten something with a preservative in it, which doesn't agree with me, I get a powerful headache.
I don't think it's actually a migraine though because there is no aura prior to the headache. When I had a hysterectomy in 2005, in April, that summer was unusually sunny, we didn't have window coverings on our new house yet, except in the MBR and MbathR. I was on Premarin, kept getting migraines, and I was miserable. I believe something about the med and/or combination of it and bright sunlight, the physical stress of getting over the surgery, all molded into 1 thing, which was those powerful headaches. After 2 years, I weaned myself off the Premarin, so those headaches went away and so did my big belly.
When I had the surgery, is when my Fibromyalgia symptoms started, too.
Oh, well. There are worst things in life than that.
I bookmarked some Fibromyalgia sites tonight and signed up for some of their newsletters and a blog post notification, at one site. I'm glad I found them. I printed up some FM info and some info on how to make it through the holidays with FM, better, too.
Dealing with the holidays in a more relaxed manner is less stressful, so I'll have fewer "flares".

((((RR with cluster headaches )))) I'm so sorry you have these. I'm glad you are so resourceful and smart to check out all options for dealing with them. Hang in there!
FF - good job on your realization of what triggers your headaches and body aches.
I am backing out of joining the YMCA. I can't commit to starting a new workout effort while moving. One of the biggest draws for me to join the Y was the ability to use steam room and swimming pool. The house we might buy has swimming pool, enclosed hot tub and a separate weight room. If we do move, I don't think the Y is in my future.
Focusing & tracking vegetable intake is revealing that I am not eating as many vegetables as I thought. It is so easy to forget! My goal is 5 a day, but I'm just doing 2-4 daily. And those aren't full serving size - just a good variety of small servings. Tracking = knowledge = the start of change.

FF...I can't ride in the car when I have a headache. I puke my guts out the entire time and the violent puking is what caused my mini-strokes. I don't get auras.
LadyM...No wonder you're so in love with your house. I am too and I haven't even seen it

RR, I never realized you had mini-strokes either!
I hope there wasn't any residual effects from them. Are you okay now? When did you have them? Do you recall how old you were when you got them? Boy, you've really been through the mill, so to speak.
LadyM, I understand why you can't join the YMCA, if you'll be moving. It's amazing there's a swimming pool at the house you want, too.
I did something so stupid today!
I had sodium in me, I was throbbing in the ankles from it, and I drank iced tea. AFTER I drank it- I looked at the ingredients then. I was throbbing all over my body, especially my hands, from decluttering. I looked at the ingredients and there is Aspartame in it, which is what many people, with FM, need to stay "away from".
I "should" have checked the ingredients, FIRST, and NOT have drank it.
Oh, well. This was temporary & it passed. I'm fine now.
I did about 90-minutes of decluttering & puttering around today, so might not walk today, since I'm tired from so much activity today. I DO want to do more yoga/Pilates stretches & my scoliosis stretch though.
I'm counting calories again today, which is day #3 in a row for counting. I gained only .5 Lbs. in 24 hours, but it's sodium from an oven dinner. I've lost almost 2 Lbs. since Sunday a.m.
My biggest accomplishment though, is how I continue to count calories. I want it to become a good engrained habit because I've got calorie counter books dated, on into summer of 2015. In the New Year, about May, I'll purchase some more. It seems how counting calories is working for me. They're nifty little books, for 10-weeks at a time, which can fit into my purse, too.

Weight was down again this morning to pre-Thanksgiving week. I'm guessing the fast drop was because I was dehydrated from flying last time I weighed myself. Flying is usually good for a few pounds weight gain. It's been so long since I've flown, I forgot that.
We ate at home tonight because we didn't think we could get out. Turns out we could have. We went for a walk and the traffic had returned to normal. But, by then, our dinner was in the oven. I'm pleased since we've been eating out an awful lot lately. I'm losing weight but feel like it would go faster if I wasn't eating out so much.
Got a swim in today. I have 2 hours between my morning pill and eating so I decided I should spend the time swimming.
