Simpkin is the clever, mischievous tabby cat from Beatrix Potter's 1903 children's book, The Tailor of Gloucester. Reportedly Potter’s personal favourite story, it features Simpkin as both a helper and a foil to his master, an elderly and impoverished tailor.

Simpkin runs errands for the tailor, catches mice under teacups, and is often depicted with a mix of natural feline traits and human-like behaviors, such as wearing a coat and walking on two legs.

When the tailor releases Simpkin's trapped mice, the spiteful cat retaliates by hiding a crucial skein of "cherry-coloured twisted silk" needed to finish the Mayor of Gloucester's wedding coat. As the tailor falls ill on Christmas Eve, the freed mice secretly finish the embroidery. Seeing their kindness, a repentant Simpkin returns the hidden silk to the tailor's bedside on Christmas morning.

Just.my.usual.early Sunday start, as we need to be OTD early for church,. I think I'm doing chalice in place of HW today, so need to ensure I'm wearing something suitable!

I hope Trissie's party was a huge success!

kittykatt, thanks for the start ! Have a good time at church, and a peaceful Sunday. It's a good day to change bed sheets and dry them, with the heat.

Waving to trissie who hopefully enjoyed the party yesterday, and will have help cleaning up and putting things away.

Interested in crochet discussion by laura and kitkat. Crocheting clothes is not easy, except for crocheted sleeveless summer tops, they are in fashion this summer.

We are in the orange warning zone due to the heatwave. A third of the country is in red warning, including Paris and surroundings, so that is a lot of people. This afternoon we go to the school fair, the kids participate in the show (dances with their classes, supervised by the teachers) and I volunteer starting 1.30pm. MrNG will volunteer later. I really hope we can all stay in the shade, there are trees in the schoolyard so that's good.
I will wash the bedsheets and have them dry in the sun. I should cook my fish flan (for tonight) now, before it's too hot. It's steam-cooked so no need for the oven, I baked a cake yesterday to eat cold today.
The electric network will be under stress, with people and companies using the A/C when they have the option, and the nuclear plants running slower, because it's harder to keep the generators cool by hot weather.

I hope everyone can can keep some electricity, we need fans and fridges and freezers !

Oh my, Frenchie, the electricity scare is no fun! I wonder if Eiffel tower is closed this weekend? I know it was last year during the summer heatwave (I was lucky - my August Paris visit fell on a week with nice cool weather and the occasional light showers were a small price for not burning alive). How's MrNiceguy?
Bama, so sorry about losing your beloved pet! But the picture of trying to fend off your DH with a spade to stop him from hurting himself is kinda funny!
Kittykatt, are you sharing our weather today?

The party yesterday was lovely, and the weather people were indeed wrong! It did get cloudy, which was actually nice, but no rain. The last guests left just after 9pm (the first to arrive were at 10:30), and by then I was falling asleep on my feet! I got dishes done, but that was about it, the rest is still there today.
I didn't count the attendance, but I think it was between 20-30 people (half DH's old friends, half his co-workers) and since even his direct superior came (I've known him for close to twenty years, as he worked with DH in his old job too), I was able to ask him personally if it was OK that DH spends so much time working remotely, and was very relieved when he confirmed that it indeed was OK.
But I think I overdid it with the food - we have a lot of meat left, so I will have to sort that out and freeze some of it. But for now, I gotta start preps for DBD's party!

trissie, you're the kind of girl to party all weekend long ! I hope you have rested enough to get started on yet another party. As for the Eiffel Tower, I just checked, they will stop entrances at 1.30 and close off at 4pm. Not surprising. It was nice that you were able to check with your DH's supervisor. (althouth I think my DH would not be 100% happy I had a talk with his supervisor without him or without telling him first, but maybe your DH is not like mine)

It's already hot outside. Lunch is getting ready, MrNG is cooking sausages for hot dogs, I will cook myself a veggie merguez afterwards, there is watermelon and cheese and tomatoes. I need to convince the kids to get their homework done, or they won't be courageous enough to do it after we get back from the school fair this evening.

Frenchie, at this point of our lives, DH's supervisor will forward me his wife's fractured wrist X-rays with "look what she did while doing YOGA!" (yes, that really happened), so...
I am surprised that they don't reopen the Tower for late night visits - you know, when the city will cool down some, but I guess it wouldn't be convenient to herd all employees back.
Water melon sounds very right, we have one for the party too!
