Kenzō Tange (丹下 健三, Tange Kenzō; 4 September 1913 – 22 March 2005) was a Japanese architect. Born in Sakai and raised in China and southern Japan, Tange was inspired from an early age by the work of Le Corbusier and designed his first buildings under Imperial Japan. He first achieved recognition for his projects to reconstruct the destroyed cities of postwar Japan, particularly Hiroshima, where he designed the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. His engagement with the Congres Internationaux d'Architecture Moderne in the 1950s made him one of the first Japanese architects to achieve international recognition.

Renowned for synthesizing traditional Japanese styles with modernism, Tange's work was emblematic of the Japanese postwar boom. However, he built major projects on five continents. He was a forerunner, mentor, and patron of the metabolist movement. He was also known as an ambitious, original urban planner whose ideas inspired the reconstruction of cities including Skopje. Tange would continue designing buildings until his death in 2005.

Tange won awards for his contributions to architecture, including the Royal Gold Medal in 1965, the AIA Gold Medal in 1966, the Praemium Imperiale for Architecture in 1993, and the Pritzker Prize, the "Nobel Prize of architecture", in 1987.

St. Mary Cathedral
Swooping steel-clad walls support the cross-shaped roof window of Kenzo Tange’s 1960s St Mary’s Cathedral in Tokyo. Located in the Bunkyō district, the cathedral was designed by the Japanese architect to reference the lightness of a bird and its wings.

Shizuoka Tower
Built in1967 in the Ginza district, the Shizuoka Tower gave Tange a chance to materialize his Metabolist ideals, which called for a new urban typology that could self, perpetuate in an organic, vernacular, “metabolic” manner.

Singapore Indoor Stadium
Construction began on 1 January 1985, it has a cone-shaped roof and a pillarless arena. It was completed on 1 March 1987 and officially opened to the public on 1 July 1988.

Helia, no, we don't have A/ C at home.. It's not usual in UK homes, as traditionally it hasn't been necessary for the few really.hot days we get. We're supposed to start cooling back.down over the next few days, so this heat will soon be a distant dream. I'm going to admit,.I do rather enjoy being out in the garden until late and.still being comfortably warm!

Bama, that's good news.about Little Man. I hope the Solensia is as successful for him as it's been for Freddie.

Dogged, you're very handy with the.needle, adapting things until they're "just right"! I'm.gp8ng.to say I held you up as a Shining Example.to DNeighbour S yesterday evening. He was in his "the world is going to be uninhabitable if we keep getting hotter temperatures , and how expensive it would be to adapt all the houses in the UK to make them liveable" mood ,.and I told him about my good friend in Canada who has a portable type of A/C that she sets up *herself* each year without any fuss, so if necessary, something similar could probably be used here. He was impressed!

Yesterday was successful despite the heat. I.gor the kitchen cleaned, and used cold water instead of the usual hot, which helped cool me down. I put the tablecloth Dnextdoorneighbour C gave me on the table (it was too small for her table) and took a picture of it with the bowl of fruit in the middle amd.Matilda sprawled on the table in approval, to show her. I've designed the party invitations, sent it to DF CW for approval,.and then printed them.out. I'll deliver them later today. After supper I had a lovely time in the garden watering,.deadheading.and doing a little cutting back of things that had gone over in the heat.

Today is parish lunch after church. The inside.of the church should.be nice and.cool, and fortunately its only a.short walk to lunch!

Little Man is definitely feeling better, he got up on the counter which I don’t recall him ever doing before (I do try to keep them off), and got the zoomies.

We went out for a late lunch yesterday to a restaurant with a wonderful salad bar, on the way home it started thundering and pouring rain so I never got to my outside chores. I will try again today. I woke around 3 and never fell back asleep so I guess I’ll get up. It’s 6:00 now. Might grab a nap later, especially if we get the afternoon storms we’ve been getting.

I'm hoping pup is fine. The grasses are still very attractive to her... but I can easily distract her...
I really don't want to take her to the vet unnecessarily - too much stress. At the same time, I don't want to miss something.

Morning All! DD33 and I crashed early and then were up for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. I am going to start the new Baldacci book today, I hope KitKat.

Morning all. I imagine it would take a few days to get past the jetlag of travel lann. Hope you get through it soon.

Kittykat I'm sure sales of the portable ac units are going to increase now. We sell so many. I bet you or your neighbors could get them there too. They feed through a window to vent and depending the size you buy it could be in your bedroom or cool the whole main living space.

Anyway I am waking up still. My sister circle friend group caught me yesterday with the concept of getting back on my supplements. I need to find them again. B12 and iron might fix my scattered brain. Some days are ok some are a heavy weight of tiredness even if sleep is no different. I just cleaned up after not getting my coffee pot straight it runs all over then.
