La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi was originally titled Violetta, after the main character. It was first performed on 6 March 1853 at La Fenice opera house in Venice. The plot follows Violetta, a terminally ill Parisian courtesan, who falls in love with the young nobleman Alfredo. Pressured by his family’s reputation, she leaves him. Believing she betrayed him, Alfredo publicly humiliates her. He eventually learns the truth but reunites with her only moments before she dies.

Act Ib At a lavish Parisian party, the celebrated courtesan Violetta Valéry is introduced to Alfredo Germont, who has loved her from afar. He confesses his feelings, and despite knowing her fatal illness makes true love impossible, Violetta is deeply moved.

Act II Violetta abandons her glamorous lifestyle to live quietly with Alfredo in the countryside. However, Alfredo’s father, Giorgio Germont, secretly visits Violetta. He demands she break off the relationship, arguing that her scandalous past threatens his daughter’s impending marriage. Heartbroken and forced to sacrifice her happiness, she leaves.Alfredo, unaware of his father's ultimatum, finds Violetta's farewell note and follows her back to Paris in a jealous rage. At a society party, Alfredo confronts Violetta and publicly throws his gambling winnings at her feet, claiming he has paid his debts to her.

Act III Months later, an isolated and bedridden Violetta is in the final stages of tuberculosis. Giorgio Germont sends a letter to Violetta revealing that Alfredo finally knows the truth about her sacrifice. Alfredo rushes to her bedside to beg for forgiveness, and they dream of escaping Paris to rebuild their life together. Tragically, it is too late; Violetta dies peacefully in Alfredo’s arms.

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday!

Helia, I'm glad you found a way to "reach" your student -LOL you had him chatting about the World.Cup!

Gma, I'm glad you're enjoying this week's theme. That sounds a lovely time with your cousins, and what a good idea to have an "open house" with them all - that should make a good dent in the clearing process, and things will go to homes where they are loved.

Welcome back, CL! I hope you had a wonderful time, and you quickly adjust to the time change now you're back!

Dogged , congratulations on good blood test results. You're right, of course, and they only confirmed what we already knew, that you are naturally fabulous!

Another hot day ahead - it's so much easier this time with the lower humidity. I still want to. get am early start, though!

Today is beautiful, sunny with just a little breeze. I've taken Fred out, had a little walk and a session in my front garden. I've also rounded up the last bits of recycling and garden waste before the dustmen come ( they're late today!).

It's getting hot in the sun now,. so time to move indoors and start the housework.

I also saw La Traviata while in high school! I think my friend performed in it as well. He performed with a local drama company, but perhaps our high school drama team put it on?

Stay cool in the heat, Kitty. That was smart to get some outdoor tasks done first.
Our weather today looks beautiful, kitkat, a little hot later this afternoon (88F/31.1C) - but it's only 66F right now (18.9C) with a little breeze. I was hoping we're weather twins today but maybe not.

Today: I'm up and dressed to jog. I'm meeting friends K, S2, and J at a new-to-me coffee shop at 10:30. I also need to get groceries. I also need to do a lot of payroll. I might join dh at a coffee shop this afternoon and do that. Dinner will be peanut chicken, rice, and roasted cauliflower.

Tomorrow: I had 2 potential students sign up for EPTs with me - back to back tomorrow morning. :? SO, I have those 2 meetings 9 - 10 a.m., and then I'll be at the school tutoring 11 - 1 and then teaching 1:40 - 3:30. This doesn't include prep time for the meetings, the tutorial, or my class - or grading time or time to write up post-meeting notes. I'll do as much of that as I can today, but I also need to work on GGT and transferring materials for a TOEFL test prep course today as well.

However, I'm going to enjoy today right now! ☀️ The sun is shining, the birds are making noises, and the temps are very pleasant! It is a beautiful summer morning! I'm going to work my body and jog the hill first thing.

Next:
- back exercises
