Back from England and Scotland. We were supposed to be home on 4th of July but original flight cancelled and replacement flight had issues and they had to get new plane which delayed 3 hours making us miss connection so we were put up in airport in Philidephia late on 4th. Got home at 4 pm on the 5th. Torally missed fireworks and parades. It was storming when we landed in philly. First night home went to bed by 9 and I got up at 3 to take MS to airport and spent day doing shopping for my friend, had a massage and watched completion of a series I started on flight and ate junk food. Fell asleep at 7:30 pm and slept for 9.5 hours. Feel much better. Today going to Y for class, need to fill pill boxes, go through mail and pay bills and want to go to farmers market at 4 to 7. Look through fridge and plan some meals and maybe get some things from store. Need to get head back on to calendar.
No more big trips until 2027. We will do some family traveling and long weekends stateside. We have 4 international trips planned next year and many stateside ones. DH retires Dec 31, he added a 4th location last night. We are traveling about 1/3 of 2027, that is going to feel intense. It has been the plan. We had the best 2.5 weeks this time. We did the canal boat with my sister and her husband and there 2 friends for a record heat week in England, we manned 137 locks in 1 week. We did the longest staircase in Uk. Then we spent 4 nights in Scotland and 2 nights near London and 1 night in Cotswald area and 1 night in Wirksworth. Saw 2 great plays, went to church for 5 different services in 4 different churches, ate some great food and saw some gorgeous scenery and drove close to 1000 miles. Spent 2 of the night with family friends too. Slept in 7 different beds. Did a couple photo shoot, ate 4 Sticky Toffee puddings and discovered pourable custard. Wow. I think I even lost weight. Walked so many miles and took several hundred pics. Many are shared on fb page.
I love England and I could totally live in Scotland. But now it is time to get back to responsibilities and figure out what retirement looks like. The boys did a great job on house. I kind of freaked out when on the ring camera I saw fire men leaving our house. They thought they smelled gas. It was fine, everything checked out.
Hope you all have been well and the heat of summer is bearable.
Need to read back and catch up.

Hi Costumelady! Welcome back! Thanks for starting us off today.
I have some errands to run (bank/Costco/grocery store and pharmacy) plus the grass really needs to be cut. It was very foggy here overnight.
Dh had a rough night with confusion. Doctor told dh to lower his insulin by 20 units. I'm certain dh lowered it more than that. There was no sugar crash, but he's not feeling great today.
Tonight will be leftover Indian food.

Good morning
Costumelady - Welcome home! I love hearing about your adventures.
Mystery - Will the driving school include driving test and license?
We had a busy evening with 2 different groups coming for a visit. We received a gift of couple dozen big home grown tomatoes.
DS17 was pulled over by the highway patrol last night and got his first ticket for not wearing a seatbelt. Hopefully, this will encourage him to buckle up from now on.
When I went outside this morning, I found that DH had left the water hose running full blast all night. Next month water bill is not going to be pleasant.
I love having a dozen or so people in our home and the joy of interacting & sharing of friendship is a treasure. However, it is also a bit chaotic and things that I meant to do fall through the cracks. All in all, a busy home is absolutely a positive, I just need to acknowledge to myself that it is okay to not check the water hose, not get my steps in, not finish the laundry, etc. Being with family & friends is more important.
Today is a fresh start.

Welcome home, Costumelady - wow, so many locks and so many sticky toffee puddings! Sounds like you had a great time, even with the delay. I've often wondered what Scotland would be like. Ddolder's honeymoon was a walking trip through Ireland. I don't believe anyone in the family has gone to Scotland.
LadyM, are you the first here to mention home grown tomatoes happening? I'm sure Ramblin' and lucylee could tell about plenty in their climates now. But Nancy and I were chatting in Garden topic - here in my neighborhood everyone except my truck farming cousin is still waiting by the plants with hope in their hearts. (Of course, he's already selling them.)
The truck arrived back home without a problem.
HRH sorta wanted to go to this appt on his own, anyway, so it didn't matter that I needed to stay here. He's threatening to bring home lunch - no telling what that will be.
I've already cleaned the small bathroom while he's gone.
Next Up - kitchen spiffing

home grown tomatoes
I just checked my records and my first tomato of this season was harvested May 27th. We are in overload mode now where friends/family are giving away the abundance of their garden vegetables. Peppers, squash, cucumbers and watermelons are in abundance also with friends posting daily that they put extra homegrown vegetables in front of their home by the road and asking people to please come help themselves. I have 3 cookie sheets stacked high with tomatoes sitting on our kitchen counters waiting for me to process them. My future self will appreciate having them to also enjoy during the winter months.
Okra is the missing vegetable in my garden - I didn't get it planted soon enough so it will be weeks before it starts producing. I need to let friends know that I'll take all the extra okra they have.
I've been in problem solving mode....
** DH took apart his CPAP machine when he lost his memory. We sat down together and figured how to get all the pieces and parts put back together and fit them to his head.
** Notice from bank of insufficient funds. I text DD15 letting her know to deposit money NOW. Then I realized that it was the bank that DS17 uses. Wrong kid. Got with DS17 and it wasn't insufficient funds but a mix up of check that wasn't deposited correctly. ANYway - it is all good now.
** I had a stack of doctor & dentist appointment cards to enter on calendar. Got those 9 appointments added.
** DH took apart the charging cables for his phone, smartwatch, and blood sugar tester. I spent some time finding all the pieces and parts and got them reassembled.
** Took hoses apart and connected them to the correct water spigots.
Why DH changed these is unknown. These hoses & spigots are on different accounts, so it matters unless we want to start pay for watering a dozen cattle. That would be an extra 11k gallons of water on our monthly water bill. No thank you.
** Made DH a lunch plate - Brisket, sausages, chicken breast, mac & cheese and potato salad.

Welcome back, Costumelady!
LadyM, the lessons are necessary to take the driving exam. In Ohio, adults get one chance to take the exam without formal lessons, but if they fail (which DC did) they have to take a certified driving course. DC has also tacked on a couple of extra road lessons because they don’t feel quite confident. They are close enough to the last of those that we should go online and schedule the road test; I think there is a wait, especially during the summer. If they fail again, they can retest again as many times as needed without further lessons. DD has not taken her first try yet; she still wants more practice, which is somewhat on me and somewhat on her — she certainly can’t go without me, but neither does she prod me to go much. (I am a nervous driver (wasn’t when I was young), and I seem to have passed that on to my kids.)
Cathy, I hope your DH gets the insulin straightened out soon.
Did you stay because you were waiting on the truck, Harriet?
So great that your DM’s room is done, blessed, and so good to see you back! Does this mean we’ll be seeing more of you, or has your mom’s need for care increased?
I’ve gone down a rabbit hole with the embroidery project. I’ve got a Michael’s coupon expiring, so I asked the moms about their favorite colors in the group text. Everybody started adding more colors to their faves to the point where it was getting to “you get what you get and you don’t get upset” territory. So Dfriend K and I are headed out tonight so I can pick out floss with my own eyes. (I do not trust the colors online.)
(LadyM, K’s husband P is my cautionary tale regarding seatbelts. He was the driver in an accident where he and the other guy were belted in the front seat and the girls were unbelted in the back. The vehicle rolled, and both girls were thrown out and killed. It weighs on his conscience to this day; K says every year on the anniversary, he wears the torn shirt he was wearing that day. My kids know the story; they don’t know it was P.)
Nancy, if you slept in, you must have needed the sleep!
I really need to clean up my breakfast (remember, rabbit hole) and have lunch. I should also figure out dinner since I’ll be gone around the time DH typically asks me what to make.
