Re: William Tell Wednesday
Gioachino Rossini's 1829 grand opera Guillaume Tell (William Tell) is set in 14th-century Switzerland under oppressive Austrian rule. The patriot Tell leads a rebellion against the tyrant Gessler. The plot follows Tell shooting an apple off his son’s head and culminates in the Swiss defeating the Austrian occupiers.
The drama unfolds across four acts: Act I In the Swiss canton of Uri, villagers are preparing for a triple wedding. William Tell, an expert archer, remains apart from the festivities, deeply troubled by the Habsburg occupation. Meanwhile, the young highlander Arnold is torn between his allegiance to the Swiss cause and his forbidden love for the Austrian Princess Mathilde. The celebratory mood is shattered when Leuthold, a Swiss shepherd, bursts in having killed an Austrian soldier to defend his daughter. Tell helps Leuthold escape across the stormy waters of Lake Lucerne. Furious, the Austrian governor Gessler loots the village and arrests the village patriarch, Melcthal (Arnold’s father).
Act II.In the mountains, Mathilde and Arnold declare their mutual love. Tell and Walter, a fellow Swiss patriot, arrive and inform Arnold that Gessler has executed his father, Melcthal. Devastated, Arnold renounces his love for Mathilde and joins the Swiss resistance. The Act concludes with the Swiss patriots uniting in a massive, swelling chorus as they prepare to fight for their freedom.
Act III At the town square of Altdorf, Governor Gessler has placed his hat upon a pole and demands that all the townspeople bow to it as a symbol of Austrian authority. When Tell passes by and refuses to bow, he is arrested. Recognizing Tell from the earlier boat escape, Gessler devises a cruel punishment: Tell must use his crossbow to shoot an apple off his own son's (Jemmy) head. Tell succeeds, but confesses that a second arrow in his quiver was meant for Gessler had he harmed his son. Tell is taken prisoner and led away.
Act IV Arnold learns of Tell's imprisonment and rallies the Swiss forces for a final assault on the castle of Altdorf. Meanwhile, Tell’s wife Hedwige is distraught over her husband's capture, but Jemmy is safely returned and lights a signal fire to summon the patriots. Tell is brought across Lake Lucerne during a violent storm and manages to break free of his chains. He confronts Gessler and kills him with an arrow. With the tyrant dead and Altdorf captured, the Swiss forces emerge victorious and celebrate their newly won independence.

Re: William Tell Wednesday
Good morning everyone and happy Wednesday!
I hope you enjoyed your beautiful bday, Helia!
Did DPup get her early walk, Kitkat?
A day at the pool sounds nice and relaxing, L.Ann
Dogged, I admire your techno prowess -that is a *lot* of cables! I always have to photograph my set up before I change anything!
Praying that the new eye treatment is successful, Gma. How kind.of you to help with the church quilts. I hope the conference for DD BS goes well later today.
I never made it back here yesterday. I did my housework safely inside during the heat of the day, made a quick supper of spaghetti, sardines and tomato sauce with peas, and then spent the rest of the evening in my garden.
Today is once.agaim.supposedmto be over 30 C but also once again,.it's a dry heat,.so pleasant, with none of that energy sapping humidity. DH is going to the office where there is A/C,, I shall walk Fred early, have some.time in my garden early (I want to water the roses before the sun gets round) clean the.kitchem.nefore the sun gets round to the windows,.and go for my walk either early (this might be too ambitious!) or later in the evening. The back garden will,.I think, also need to wait until evening.

Re: William Tell Wednesday
I have not seen that opera, Kitty! My day yesterday was good, pretty productive, but it wasn't my birthday!
I didn't get everything quite done, so I'm up early to work on that before the payroll meetings and classes start. Did you get your walk in this morning?
Yesterday was a pleasant day. I jogged the arb hill, had coffee with K, S2, and J, make a grocery order (though they forgot my veggies), got my tutorial prepped (made some materials), worked a bit on payroll GGT, made a nice meal of Indonesian peanut chicken, rice, and roasted yellow squash. Dh and I have been eating dinner on the patio, which is very pleasant in the evening.
Today will be a very full day. I'm "on"for several hours, teaching for 4.6 hours today. There will be a few hours of prep, grading, notes, etc. as well. Laundry and bills and decluttering need to be done + 1 DPC, but they will probably have to wait until tomorrow.
I did not get enough sleep, about 6 hours last night. Coffee imbibing has begun.
LOL! It's nice and cool right now though will warm up to 87F (30.6C) this afternoon. It looks like it will be another nice summer day.

Re: William Tell Wednesday
Good morning Kittykatt!
Thanks for the start. I have not seen William Tell in person but like the music:) Everyone is familiar with the Overture - from a variety of movies, skating programs...
Watering is a must these days, isn't it?
Yes, we did walk with Dpup - although it was not our usual long walk.
Gma wishing you good results with the eye treatment.
Patio dinners are really nice, helia - glad you enjoyed your day.
My day was busy ;
had my two older DGDs in the morning. After they left I took a 1/2 hr nap -as I had only 4 hours sleep the night before. Went to take out DD's DDog, then picked up my youngest DGD. We had a nice afternoon, then drove to my gym. I was able to do a class as they have childcare there. Then, we had dinner. She left after 8.
Today I have her only in the afternoon.
My household achievement: scrubbed microwave, cleaned back door, cleaned oven.
This morning, I need to get moving as DH has an appt. and, I like to accompany him so we don't miss crucial details.
See you all in a bit.

Re: William Tell Wednesday
Morning all. I guess I've been going stretches with not much to say. And just busy at times when I could post.
Looks like lots of you are surviving heat waves. Our weather is cool. Raining sometimes but not really lots like some places. My garden is super slow.
I have today left to finish up in the house. We're going to the city on Saturday to shop and meet the kids coming here. Sounds like the inlaw family is going to be later in the week. So that's ok . They are bringing the younger sister. Same age as ds 16. So I need both bedrooms right away. Imagine dad will bring the motorhome soon. I'll check it and clean it a little.
I've turned both the living room and dining room around. Got a new cat tree. Things are clean under furniture. Just needs a straighten. And vacuum and mop. And freshen up the bedding. Then it's just gonna have to do. Doesn't have to be perfect just not over run by pets.
My coffee maker died. It won't start. I guess I will be switching that out too. Again. I feel like it's not a year old. Had to make instant coffee.
Oh and I might actually get the baby blanket done for dd. So she can take it. I want her to use it right away cause it could have been one v wider. Good for newborn size. Certainly small for crib size. It's cute though. And I'm happy with how it's turned out.
My friend is coming around 9 for a visit. Haven't seen her for a while. Do I go first off for a coffee maker
? Hmmm. I didn't like that one anyway. The shape is off enough that early morning I keep not noticing the pot is crooked and spills ..
