The Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) is a striking species, with a red face and bright yellow wingbars, Newly-fledged juveniles lack the red facial plumage. Males and females look alike. This colourful and vocal finch is found throughout Britain & Ireland on all but the highest ground.

UK Goldfinch numbers have risen steadily in recent decades, as birds have taken advantage of bird food provided in gardens.

Goldfinches can be found throughout the year across Britain & Ireland. When not visiting garden feeders, they can form flocks with other finches, and can be seen moving through trees and on stubble fields in search of food.

Good morning everyone and happy Friday!

Helia, the girls seem to be settling in well. LOL at their discovering all the junk food!

I see.you will still have daily Grandma duties even though Little Bit is now at school, L.Ann! :D

I'm glad the vet was pleased with Germane, Dogged. And I'm very impressed with your diagnostic abilities with the car!

Gma, that sounds quite an occasion with your College. And how nice that local residents are invited. Hopefully it will help the students to feel part of the community and lessen the distinction between "town and gown".

Yesterday was busy and enjoyable. A lovely meaningful service followed by a very good lunch, and afterwards,a long chat with DF PM. I picked up the cat food and meds from the vet, and that also turned into quite a social occasion.( Everyone is so much more relaxed when I turn up without Freddie! I was also able to update them on the situation with Mica. Everyone is aware of the need.for confidentiality and discretion, so I'm public I just refer to "the item on our record" and they know exactly what I mean and can write a quick update.

By the time I came home the sun was shining , so I had some time in my front garden doing g a little deadheading. Oh, and Freddie claimed my lap for a while. :D

Today DH is up bright and early, as he's off to a beer festival with some friends. I'm planning some time in my garden as it's a lovely sunny start and I want to make the most of it.

Happy Friday!
kittykatt, enjoy your day in the garden!

I wish I was able to enjoy my day in the garden, but the house is a disaster, there's mountains of laundry, I need to get groceries, and we want to leave for the cottage as soon as DH comes home from work, so I have my work cut out for me today! At least I don't have to work, but the Fridays off are bit of a poor trade compared to the 9 hour office days when I leave home before 7am and don't get back till 6:30 :-( Oh well, school starts Tuesday and then we'll be back to the usual schedule!

That's a long work day, trissie. Thinking of you as you get ready for a weekend at the cottage!
We have goldfinches here too, Kitty, but they don't have red faces. Yours are so pretty! Someday, I'd like to observe the birds in your part of the world. In the winter, the males here become more drab and look like the females.
Will you have Little Bit after school, L Ann? It looks like you won't. . .

https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Ame ... h/overview

I'm off to a late start but working on my coffee now. I'm dressed to jog - but I might do that later. The high today is only 80*F, so I don't have to jog early since I'll just be going short - to test out my legs. Also, I want to take the girls to the school to see if we can pick up their books. I might go to my school's good bye party as a past teacher will be there. She just spent 2? years in Laos teaching ESL, working for the US State Dept., I think. She is a phenomenal teacher, so creative and energetic! Better yet - she is 72 years old!! I want to be like her when I'm 72.

The girls just appeared and are trying their cereal samples - one is eating cheerios and one is eating honey nut cheerios. :D

Next:
- finish reclaiming the kitchen
- call the school
- spiff myself

Later:
- take girls to the school?
- some qt
- jog
- s2s and self care
- squeegee and wipe down shower
- make the bed
- payroll: edits to B/I AS Exam
- lunch
- after lunch clean up
- 12:45 - 2ish go to school good bye party
- text back MM
- text SS
- call back to carpet cleaners
- other things?
- dinner out: with dh or also with the girls?
- duolingo
- update WW
- update MFP

TaDas!
- up; weighed self -- back up to weight before the trip *sigh*
- coffee
- checked bank accounts
- weather website + email deletions
