Whatever yesterday was; today is a new day! Breathe! I thought this would be a good way to start today!
I hope your day is a good one!!!
"1. Be gentle with yourself
Try cutting yourself some slack and accept that this is how it is right now. You’re worthy of your own kindness, so be tender with yourself.
2. Take things off your plate:
Your priority is to carve out time for self-care right now, so do what you can to clear your schedule and avoid any potentially stressful situations. If canceling plans makes you feel guilty, remind yourself that you can’t help others unless you put your health and well-being first.
3. Feel your feelings
4. Allow yourself to rest
Everything feels harder when we’re tired. So give yourself permission to get the rest you need, and notice how it positively impacts your perspective and capacity to cope.
5. Honor your needs
Check in with yourself. What do you actually need right now?
6. Find positive and gentle distractions
7. Lean on your support network
The simple act of sharing our experience can make us feel lighter
8. Breathe…
When we’re in the middle of a storm it can be hard to remember that it’s temporary.
9. Take note (literally)"* we know how good that is. use your journal, paper, card file - I loved pam and Peggy's suggestion to write down a problem on a 3 x 5 and file it ahead-look at it 6 months later. I find that what I felt so strongly at the moment - most of the time has been eased or forgotten.
*from calm.
What do you need today?

dd older took care of mom yesterday - today is my day - tomorrow it is generally both of us.

Good morning
Blessed - thank you for the start and excellent reminders this morning. I needed those.
I need to be vigilant in following my cards. They are good reminders but maybe more important than that is they keep me from slipping into low spirits. Being a caregiver 24/7/365 is not easy. Raising teenagers is not easy. Sometimes I get into my poor-me feelings and nothing good comes from that. Putting in some extra focus into taking care of me physically, mentally and emotionally is worth the effort

Hi!
Has anyone here heard or read about "Habit stacking"? I think we all do it on here to some extent. Morning routines, evening routines, etc. I was scrolling through my phone last night and came across it, so I got out of bed and googled it.
I've been reading the first Harry Potter book again. Now I see it from such a different perspective. The author stated that making up the names for people and places was hard, so I paid attention to some of introductions to characters and place names. Some are rather humourous. I might have to get lost in some books as the next few months progress. FB and other information sources are just too full of ridiculousness.

Thanks for the reminder blessed. So true. I think I need some of those thoughts atm. But then I think I'm most of the time in a better spot these days and need to actually make myself finish some projects and be more involved. Fine line that balance is .
I really should look more into your card system. I've said that before. Where do you find what to put on the cards? I think you have notes on it somewhere that I have read before. My house was such a disaster when the kids were little. And then I found the flylady routines and zones etc. I did really well for several years. Till things unraveled one routine at a time. Then we severely decluttered and built the rest of the house. It was clean a new for quite a while and didn't need the details as much. Not so much 12 years later.
It's completely reorganized since dd and dsil brought some extra family when they visited and I got dad's big sectional couch. Everything matches now I just need to get better at finishing cleaning and kitchen. And details.. and well I still need some better art or decor. Projects waiting. Declutter. I keep thinking I'm gonna be productive on a day off and then I don't get far.
And it's garden produce season. We had coleslaw and I cooked up 1 big beet last night. Yum.
So today ... what am I going to process from the garden? And I finally broke down and bought a long overdue new vacuum. Put it together and use it lol.
Poor me thoughts can definitely overtake even the better days. Things have balanced with caretaker responsibility because mom is in care and dad is the primary. He still needs help but different fashion. He called last night and then dropped in unannounced... not a complete fan of that but he needs company. Downsizing him and selling his house and buying something in town is next... acckkk.
Habit stacking? Hmm. Heard the term. Do tell. Need those tips

.
Today is a new day? What can I do with it?

Good morning
I had forgotten that particular card, blessed. Good thoughts from you on attitude toward ourselves.
Me, too, LadyM on watching out for slipping into low spirits. You are not the only one watching their footing! I got out of my pouting yesterday.
Pouting admission - Having not eaten (misplaced mental block about eating before a blood draw, but the blood draw was noon and glucose not even very important), I could use that as an excuse. But also just feeling lack of control at appt, worry that correct things weren't happening, worry about results. Need to be able to let those things go - others can have control and do well. I don't always have to be "on guard". Some of blessed's points apply.
Dr's office called after we were already home and a decision had been made about prescriptions we didn't pick up while we were out.
Anyway, hoping it was the right decision, but she took me off of one more med. It's what I want, to get off meds, but I think her reason was wishy-washy. Maybe I am in the category of patients who can handle some wishy-washy now.
On the way in here this a.m., I noticed an email about a marginal sale on tops, so I shopped online and did buy 3. Gasp. Two are my size, one sold out in my size BUT just 1 item left in the next size up, so I talked myself into getting that and believing I can alter it.
(believing I will alter it?) Anyway, I'm glad I've now made a stab at solving the problem of the fall wardrobe mix-up.
Tending to indoor plants.

Lauralind, it is LadyM who has used Habit Stacking most. January 28, 2024 she gave a link in her PWYC post, for instance.
And about quickest reference for cardfile setup - we'd chatted about this in the Cardfile Appreciation topic in Cardfile Central here. Fastest method now that we've chatted about is probably to get the book, Get Your Act Together, by Pam Young and Peggy Jones on Kindle or other - that's a few dollars, maybe $2.99? Or hard copy purchase of course. That is for the eventual method P and P came up with for grouped tasks on cards, and is the 4th chapter. For individual tasks on each card, the first book, Sidetracked Home Executives, would be available Kindle or other as well.
Some quick online references for the cards that we linked to in stickied posts there are not available out there on the web any longer, for various reasons, but the books, published and no problems with copyright, are always good authorities. We've had links at times to other people's explanation of the cards as they use them - most of those weren't permanent on the web, etc.

Where do you find what to put on the cards?
I've done it several different ways and have settled on only having cards that directly relate to my life and have consequences that I don't like. It has to be proven worth the effort to do the card instead of dealing with the consequence.
I also started VERY small - just a couple cards a day until they became consistently doable. I am the queen of breaking things down into small pieces until i don't resist doing them. I get a dopamine hit (feel good) from marking cards done.
Habit stacking - YES! This is how I add something to what I am already doing. For me it has to be small and consistent.
One of the currently habit stacking tasks that I'm working on establishing is to take a piece of paper with me on my hourly mini walk outside. The hourly walk is fairly established habit. Dealing with paperwork is something that I procrastinate on BIG time. So I am habit stacking paperwork with mini walk resulting in dealing with one piece of paper each hour. While walking I look at the paper and decide what action needs to happen next with this piece of paper and do that action the moment I walk back inside the house.

just a quick hi - I am waving at all of you!!!!
dd younger called and a huge moth - 6" big boy/girl came into her place when she opened the door - she can't get it out. oh my goodness - she laughed bc it came right at her and she screamed for her neighbors to hear.
mom is next to me - I got her cleaned - it was a bit of a stubborn struggle with mom... she is feisty at times - oh my goodness - she does make me smile how stubborn and obstinate she can be; but she is clean from top to bottom and dressed!

Lauralind, also in the topic, "Winter - our 2026 Start in Our Cardfiles" in Cardfile Central, I actually copied in green color (and I believe that is legally fine for such limited words) just the "dailies" cards P and P sold within their package they named "Organized from the Inside Out", which is way out of print now. I own that set of cards and appreciate them very much. Like LadyM says, however, what you eventually do after working with any cards is to personalize them to your own life/home/needs. I refer to that set of published cards I purchased. I USE the ones I personalized after figuring out what works for me. Btw, very little difference between the O from the I Out physical cards and the ones suggested in the book pages of GYATogether.
