Lucila Godoy Alcayaga (7 April 1889 – 10 January 1957), known by her pseudonym Gabriela Mistral, was a Chilean poet-diplomat, journalist and educator. She read widely in theosophy, became a member of the Secular Franciscan Order or Third Franciscan order in 1925, but rarely attended mass. She was the first Latin American author to receive a Nobel Prize in Literature in 1945, "for her lyric poetry which, inspired by powerful emotions, has made her name a symbol of the idealistic aspirations of the entire Latin American world".

Some central themes in her poems are nature, betrayal, love, a mother's love, sorrow and recovery, travel, and Latin American identity as formed from a mixture of Native American and European influences. She also wrote an immense body of prose, about 800 articles that circulated throughout the Spanish-speaking world, on a range of topics: geography, education, profiles of her fellow writers, politics, and more. Her image is featured on the 5,000 Chilean peso banknote.

Give me your hand
Give me your hand and give me your love,
give me your hand and dance with me.
A single flower, and nothing more,
a single flower is all we'll be.

Keeping time in the dance together,
singing the tune together with me,
grass in the wind, and nothing more,
grass in the wind is all we'll be.

I'm called Hope and you're called Rose:
but losing our names we'll both go free,
a dance on the hills, and nothing more,
a dance on the hills is all we'll be.

Dame La Mano
Dame la mano y danzaremos;
dame la mano y me amarás.
Como una sola flor seremos,
como una flor, y nada más.

El mismo verso cantaremos,
al mismo paso bailarás.
Como una espiga ondularemos,
como una espiga, y nada más.

Te llamas Rosa y yo Esperanza;
pero tu nombre olvidarás,
porque seremos una danza
en la colina y nada más.

So, happy Monday!

I am keeping DBD home today, she might be good to go, but she has double PE and that would not be a good idea. Oh well, they will survive without me in the office for another day!
Spent all of yesterday's afternoon and evening in the kitchen, but now there's 8 jars of plum butter, 6 jars of baked tea and 6 jars of canned plum in spicy syrup. And still a basket to go, which means I will do some plum baking today, and more baked tea, and possibly ask DH to slice another 7 pounds of plums for plum butter (he really does like it, so he may be willing :-) )
DBD has a parent-teacher orientation this afternoon, which will take significant time out of my afternoon, but I still hope to maybe get started on the holiday missions - both the bedroom and the office are in serious need of attention!

Thanks for the new start trissie, what an interesting international writer. Thanks for including one of her poems, and including the English, for those like me who have only one language. Putting up all those plums will taste so good in the winter. And maybe even make gifts for special people. I have she feels all better soon. I bet if you sent her to school tomorrow she'd either come home/ be sent home early, or would miss the next 2 days, so you are wise to give her time to get completely well.

I've made it safely to my niece's house, had supper with the family, and went to the ice cream shop where 1 of her sons has an evening job ( that doesn't interfere with his school work).
The new to me car performed well, but sitting in the driver's seat for miles and miles is uncomfortable. Somewhere around 200-250 miles, I got my soft bed pillow out of the trunk and sat on it. Much better. I was thinking about and commiserating with helia and her bursitis... I did get out and move about every 125-150 miles, just 200 short of my 5,000 steps goal, which surprised me, since the whole day was in the car.

Tomorrow I need to start earlier, as I have 100 more miles to go. I had a great night sleep before leaving, and expect another good night tonight.
(
If this looks funny, it's cz it's from my phone.)

Thank you for starting us off with that beautiful poem, trissie. I hope that DBD feels better.

It's good to see that you are enjoying your trip, Gma.

I have an easy load of laundry to hang, just Germane's fleeces. And then I think I can head to bed unless Germane has other plans for me. She just woke up and seems quite alert and active.

Monday
Brought back the laundry
Filled two slow cookers and started them
Cleaned out the vegetable drawer in the fridge
Bagged the garbage and brought it to the chute
Clean up after Germane

Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off - such a beautiful poem! I hope you can enlist DH 's help with the plums, and that DBD feels better soon.

I'm glad you're having a lovely time, Gma - thank you for checking in and updating us.

WTG getting all G ermane's laundry done, Dogged. Sleep well!

So, Monday again. The weather is cool and cloudy but not raining. Yet. DH is going to the office. My plans for today are to go for a walk, to do something in the garden and to clean upstairs. I also need to give the kitchen.a quick spiff, and ensure everything is PA.

gma, speaking both Spanish and English, I think the translation of the poem is very good - it was done by a very talented author Ursula Le Guin. Translating poetry is a poetrical discipline in itself and sometimes it's not good, but not this time!
Dogged, hoping you had an uneventful night!
Did the weather hold, kittykatt?
