Specifically Saturday

Post by Harriet »

Get into the specifics! Don't just make vague goals for your day, state what you intend to accomplish.

Don't say, "Work on that kitchen." Say, "Clear and clean kitchen counter."

Don't say, "I need to get to bed earlier". Say, "Tonight I'll be in bed by 10:30."

Have you already made a 5x5 for the day? Check it to see how you can make it specific.

If you don't have a 5x5, now's the time. What are 5 specific things you specifically intend to do by 5:00 this afternoon? ....specifically?

Guess I'd better say I know 5x5 notes here are abbreviated, of course! We may have specific goals in mind but state them in few words.

5x5

Finish weeding section in backyard
Clean vacuum cleaner
Wash master linens
Make online order
Make out grocery list

((Harmony)) I hope this awful sunburn lets you rest and heal soon.

We just had the scariest thing happen. DD's older female (the grandmother oof current puppies) just had a seizure. We hadn't been here when she had one before. Felt so sorry for her as she seemed frightened. Didn't want to call DD - but felt she should know. She took it much better than I thought she would. She always surprises me - handles things well when I think she would freak - freaks at what I think is ho hum.

Puppies get their first solid food tonight or tomorrow.

DH is now out of shower so it is my turn.

Harriet I like specific.

If you put general statements on a card it can be over whelming.

We are having the same kind of day like yesterday. I'm cruising right along.

It is 11:24 ish my time and 73 outside. It was 68 when dd1 and I walked. After breakfast, I mowed and it was 69. It is cloudy and windy, with a high of 85 predicted. Dh said they were forecasting this yesterday. Obviously I didn't catch any weather yesterday because it is a pleasant surprise. Also, we received about a 1/2 inch of rain in the early morning hours yesterday. With this drought, we are grateful for every drop and no one complains.

I picked up the girls at daycare yesterday. We came to my house and I offered them supper. Dgd2 wanted G oldfish chocolate cookies. She only ate a few. Dgd15+months ate a snack size container of applesauce and half of a banana. Then they played. Just ahead of 7 dgd2 started crying for her mom and wanted to go home. I called dd2 and told her to tell her dh we were headed to their house. The baby fell asleep on our way to their house. Dsonil came in shortly. He had planned to take me home and pick up supper for them, but the baby was asleep. I told him I would stay with her while he took dgd2 and went to pick up supper. Dd1 had offered to come pick me up. Well I heard him drive in the garage and it took longer than normal for him and dgd2 to come in the house. She had thrown up all over herself and her carseat. That explained a lot. Looking back she didn't look 100% when I picked her up. She told me that she had a headache, but I just thought she was repeating what she hears dgd16 say, because later I asked her and she said it was gone. Plus her not having an appetite, it all made sense. I washed her up and daddy changed her clothes. When dd1 came to pick me up, she came in for a bit. By the time we left dgd2 was asleep. That was around 8 and I called at 10 to make sure dd2 was home and check on her. She was still asleep. She slept until 8 this morning, when she woke up hungry, thirtsy and feeling fine again. What a relief!

Dd2 said the promotion went well and people seemed anxious to try it. It's a 50 mile trip but a lot of people from there come here because we have S ams, H ome D epot, S ears and T arget that they don't have. Of course, we go there because of H obby L obby and B ath and B ody. We are supposed to get a M ichaels and K ohls with in the next year or so.

The lady that bought our house called yesterday. Her dh is having knee surgery this week, but sometime after that she wants me to come over and visit them. She told me that they are so happy with the house. I am really glad that someone bought it who will love it and take care of it.

Guess I better go and fix some lunch.

I've been puttering around on A mazon looking for about 3 things. Finally ordered an over-the-door shoe organizer (to go on bedroom side of the slidng door -had to measure umpteen times to be sure I had it right). Also ordered an over door bulletin board to go on outside (toward hallway) of bathroom door. Wanted something where I could post dh's cards (decided on bright green for him btw). Hate to have them spread out on the table all the time & that's probably the only way he'll look -when they're staring him in the face.

He had gone over to help ds with dgs7's go-kart, but just noticed he's back. He's returning to work on Monday and is trying to get as much as possible done here at our own RV site before then. Usually he has NO time for things he wants to do here. He's accomplished so much this summer -think he might see the value in having some time to himself. :?

Very hot out there today. Think the 'bunch' of family is going to a Rattlers lacrosse game tonight. DGS7 really enjoys lacrosse (both watching & playing).

DD left early this morning to pick up GD14. Truly hoping that this mornth away at a Christian horse' camp has helped her grow.

5x5---hmmm, let's see.
1) get order placed with A mazon
2) pick up the counters & stove in kitchen
3) Get out clothes for tomorrow's trip from here
4) Clean up front of bathroom washer closet
5) Get coffee & meds ready for tomorrow

Well, got that 5 done by 2:15. Thanks for the 'push', Harriet! Also did up the dishes which I wasn't planning to do today -but realized I'd be gone all day tomorrow.

Now have to SEARCH for a mounting bracket which dh says was ON the table, but he's not "saying"......Have no idea what it looks like or where to look. I only know it's not in here and it's 96 out. It's probably out there in front of his eyes -after all I'm sure he's looked like most men.

Quiet day in the village and at my house. Dh saw a dentist yesterday and got on antibiotics and pain meds for his tooth and will get a root canal on Monday. He is really, really feeling lousy but I told him he'd probably feel better by this evening. It's nice to have a quiet day here; I had a li&t of stuff for us to get done this weekend but perhaps he'll feel more like it by tomorrow.

Dkids have friends over - Z is here with ds and dd has her two best friends here too. It's nice to have the house full of kids for awhile.

I took a mega nap already!

5x5 for today:
x 1. Take girls to Salvation Army store to look for 50s style clothes for dd16. She is going to a 50s bday party tonight. --I'd never been inside a S.A. store before. It was almost overwhelming the amount of stuff they had!
x2. Well, this should be #1 chronologically, but I don't want to take the time to correct; jog with dh.
x3. email mom - thank her for some gifts/email links she has sent us
x4. groc. store for small group meal
/5. prep food for small group - pork chops are marinating and potatoes are in the oven; I hope they get done in time. I still need to grate some cheese, set out ice, drinks, and toppings for potatoes.
/6. (I have to include this as it must be done by 5 - which is 43 minutes from now.) House ready for small group. Kids have done their vacuuming chores; I am running the dw (either late or early. . . ). Living room is tday - but I think I'll dust it. Bathrooms need a quick s/s. I'll check on the play room. . .

Saw an interesting video last night: Gran Torino. I'm not usually a Clint Eastwood fan, but this movie was intriguing. The acting was . . um. . . weak. . . in spots - b/c they used authentic Hmong people to play the Hmong in the movie - or so I heard. Plot had some definite weaknesses as well. But it was an interesting look at inner city immigrant populations, gang issues, racial issues, what it means to be a neighbor. It was set in Detroit, so of course that is of interest to a Michigander. :)
