The marvelous richness of human experience would lose something of rewarding joy if there were no limitations to overcome. The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no dark valleys to traverse.

Good Morning!

Harmony - Congratulations! WOW! I'm in awe of what you were able to do yesterday!

I'm feeling a little beat up this morning, but ready to get started again.

DSon and DDIL have made HUGE strides this year in getting physically fit. They both run/bike 3-5 miles several times weekly and are at healthy weight. I noticed this weekend they are using techie devices to track their sleep/exercise which has me considering mimicking them. They are using jawbone up but I am thinking fitbit might be better .....still want to look at fuelband. Or not....maybe just put on a pedometer and get active. Does anyone have a recommendation?

1st cup of coffee enjoyed. It's past time to get busy.

Good morning! Very appropriate quote for today, OKay.

I need to get a quick shower, walk ddogs and head to work. I think yesterday was the first day we've been here that that they got no walk at all. I think there was a period of no rain in the afternoon, but it was raining both a.m. and p.m. when I would normally walk them.

I have two more projects to wrap up at work, then I'm hoping I'll be off until after the first of the year. 8-) I didn't realize until last week that I was close to that magical number of hours and it really would be nice to have some extra time right now, between dkids being home, the stuff with dsis, and just having down time. And we are quite slow this time of the year. The partner I work with most is scheduled for surgery on the 20th. I don't know if that has been rescheduled or not; she had the flu last week and was out all week...

Do ya'll almost feel GUILTY for enjoying things, for having happy things to report, when others are suffering such unimaginable grief? It's hard to believe that life is so... "normal" right now for us... and there in CT, for sooo sooo many people, life will NEVER be "normal" again.
Praying.
That "Guilt" is a normal feeling. Part of "Survivor's guilt" I suppose, LucyLee. But EVIL can't win, we can't allow it -thus we have to keep doing the normal. It was interesting about the one in Newtown who wanted the lights out in honor of the lost. But as someone else said, doesn't evil then win? Can you just envision the evil ones & terroists of the world laughing that the rest of us are so paralyzed by these happenings? I am by no means immune to all of this. Found myself deeply depressed on Friday & Saturday, but that did no one any good.

DD was pondering how she would approach her students today -much as LucyLee is today I'm sure. There will be questions and talk throughout the day. DD happens to have Kindergartners through 8th grade all day. One thing she has proposed to do is to lock her classroom doors. They can only be locked from the OUTSIDE! So, she will lock it and go in, so everyone will have to knock to be let in. All classrooms are this way.

Lynlee posted this in J&C on Friday (I got her permission to use it here since that's our private place).
Praying today that I will have a sound approach to the everyday things that I can do today.
What a good thought for us on ANY day.

Have to run gd to school. She goes to the Dr. tomorrow. Really hoping hormone therapy will help her. DSonIL wants to wait to see how this affects her before they do anything about finding placement for her.

Every day we come across people who are struggling as much as those in CT are struggling - we just don't know it. So I don't have survivors' guilt because I'd be paralyzed if I allowed myself to have it due to my empathy. A church member told me not to cry yesterday as she told me about her cousin dying and all she had done leading up to the inevitable death.

This cousin died in October but had put together a full Christmas for her family this year so they wouldn't have to do it themselves, just unpack it from the basement. There were also memory books for each of her kids, her niece and nephews and special letters for her children to be opened at graduation, marriage and birth of first child.

I was bawling and the church member kept saying it wasn't a reason to cry but all I could think of was the pain the cousin had at leaving her children.

The key is to live each moment as if we are supporting those who are grieving a loss (be it death, divorce, health, security) because, I believe we are. We just don't have the 24 hour news crews to point a camera at who it is.

((Teachers and students returning to classrooms today))

I'm wanting to relax after the crazy busyness of the weekend, but there are a lot of things I need to do today.

Yesterday, we got home from church and then lunch at 2:30. I left 5 minutes later to pick up dd14 from her small group, which was meeting in a nearby town, 40 minutes away. Instead of going straight home, we went to the mall to find her a black blouse for tonight, which we succeeded in doing, a silky short sleeve one on sale for $12. She said the size S fit her OK. We were looking for XS. My girls are so small; it is funny b/c I'm not. I'm tall, though not particularly heavy for my height - right now, at least. The girls clearly have dh's family's size genes. They both wear kid size jeans still. Anyhow, I was home at 4:45. I did chill for about 1.5 hours, then it was off to the cookie exchange party. We purposefully went late and came home early. We were home by 7:45. Dfriend R and one of S and R's friends ate and hung out at our house for the evening. R took a family photo to use with our New Year Cards; we assembled on the sofa, but the background includes the art table behind the sofa with all its chaotic creativity. S had meetings and couldn't make it. :( I finally took ds back to his dorm around 11 pm. *phew* His last final is today. I'm SO happy to be alone in a quiet house for a few hours today, though I'll need to eventually do some errands and running around today too.

We still have not gotten a tree; the place where we get trees closes at 8 pm, so that was not possible last night. Every night this week, dd14 has something until 7:40 pm or later, so we can't go as a family any evening this week. Dd14 did say we could go without her, which I think we're going to have to do. . .. .

goals to work toward today:
-a.m. routine
-laundry catch up!
-wrapping presents (fun goal!)
-2 packages in the mail
-make a dozen cookies to take to the concert tonight; funny b/c we already have dozens from the cookie exchanges, but I think the family wants to keep those. I recently bought some cookie dough as a fund raiser for a friend's son's preschool, so I can quickly bake some fresh.
-groc. store? Not really necessary for today, but that is traditionally a Monday chore for me. We are low on fresh fruit too.
-maybe finish cleaning up the left garden at the foot of the driveway?
-pick up dd14 from school at 3:30, take her to rehearsal at the Univ. music school with her accompanist at 4.
-supper: leftovers; a little lasagne casserole and lots of lentils to eat over rice. I will make a salad too.
-dd14's concert tonight at 7:30; she probably needs to be there around 6:45 or so.

Up and at it but not happy to be up and at it.

Crunch time - I have 7 days to pull Christmas out of somewhere. And a bad case of the Idonwannas.

Today has nothing on the schedule and I thought I was getting rid of dh for the day (he still needs time alone in stores) but there's a bad ice storm again this Monday so schools are cancelled again. Not sure if choir will be cancelled or not. It is our last practice before Christmas Eve and on Saturday night's informal practice at the party she added two more pieces of music so we really do need a practice.

If the temp rises and this switches to rain, I'll get rid of dh. Tomorrow is snow. It is also my last day of volunteering at Presbytery this year and our hair appointments (so my time at Presbytery is limited with a distinct end-time.)

I'm doing one item at a time as far as preparations go. Tomorrow we'll go to IKEA for napkins. That's it (although I've proposed we add dinner to that so we don't have to cook after being out all day in bad driving.)

Back from dropping LO off at school. He was very clingy this morning and didn't want me to leave. He gave me about a half dozen goodbye kisses/hugs before entering his classroom. LO is super tired from this weekend activities so extra naps/early bedtime for a couple days might be needed to catch up.

So many directions that need attention. Should I clean.....or cook.....or focus on paperwork......or Christmas prep.....or or or or or Taking a deep breathe and acknowledging that I am blessed to have such common normal tasks to focus upon.

As Kathryn said
Up and at it but not happy to be up and at it.

Yesterday was very busy and rather long... Managed to get the candy bagged up, but found that I have missing product and extra product, guess that is to be expected when you have $830.00 worth of $5.00 candy! Need to separate it by areas of the Hospital and then DS20 and I will take it down to DP/BFF. I am going to take him with me since the box is huge and heavy. I also need to swing back by the fabric store, since the flannel I got to line the DS's sleeves is not even enough to line one much less two. :x

I also got DS20's jacket cut out yesterday, so now I need to get DS13's cut out and then get to stitching. Time to get moving.

ToDo/TaDa
