Lots of inspiring stories in the news about being "In Training" today.
Cool stories about those who once couldn't be active because of injury or poor health, who decided to consider themselves "In Training" and improve.
Also stories about those who wanted to benefit a charity, worthy ideal, or sports program, so got themselves "In Training" to be ready to raise funds, or raise awareness.
Lots of stories about building a habit, and gaining confidence and ability.
For what are you "In Training"? What HABIT are you cultivating? What improvement will you see?

Re: Tuesday in Training
Today dh begins his journey to quit smoking. He has not smoked inside any of our homes since 1987. At this house he just has to walk 20 feet from the sunroom door to his garage. He has heat, air, TV, music and a computer out there. This morning as I came from the bedroom to the kitchen, he was headed outside. He commented "I know it looks like I am going to smoke, I'm not, it's just part of my routine". He just called to tell me that he will be home by 3 this afternoon. He will be then be picked up at 4 to head to the out of town overnight meeting. He only had 1 pair of slacks that he could wear and he needs 2. Since he has been watching his diet, he has lost enough to get into 4 more pairs of slacks. Last night I washed a pair of slacks, so today I will need to iron the 2 pair of slacks and get stuff ready to pack. Dd2 always thinks I spoil him. I just consider it taking care of him. It is interesting how different generations think.

Re: Tuesday in Training
I am up and about and pondering the day. Today I get to do only what I want, except that I do need to go to cleaners, grocery and bank.
Still in pajamas, but have had breakfast. Would like to work through the rest of a.m. routine - perhaps walk patient ddogs first. Chance of strong thunderstorms this afternoon so should probably head out for the three errands soon, too.
Now:
walk ddogs
reboot laundry
make the bed
clear kitchen counters
brush teeth, wash face, etc.

Re: Tuesday in Training
The Boston Marathon news is so upsetting, so senseless, definitely OMM. It is the child victims that get to me most. We had acquaintances running in the race, the parents of one of dd14's middle school friends, but they finished before the explosions, have been heard from, and are fine. Dh has a friend in the Boston area; we suppose he is OK. He is an ER Doc so maybe he was working/called in to help. The families of the victims and the city are definitely in my thoughts and prayers today. Perhaps the best thing to do for ourselves and the country is to get on with normal life. Ah! That is the nice thing about this website.
My a.m. routine is half done - and it is the crossroads of the day!!
My day is pretty low-key. At a minimum:
- am routine
- errands: prepping for dh's bday celebration Thursday night! (His bday is the end of January; this is the first night all schedules, including ds' and S and R's, coordinated.)
- call the cc company
- some organizational emails
- exercise
- dd14 to oboe lesson

Re: Tuesday in Training
Good morning gals. LynnL. way to go on those new habits!
I had to turn off the news ~sigh~ out west here we are so far from that Boston news; however one person from our area ran in it and were safe it said on the local news last night.
29* when I got up and 53* is the day time hi temp. for today br-r to cold to get and out do much yet for me. So I tackled some of the morning routine stuff and have made some pretty good progress on that yea! I even have a plan for dinner tonight & tomorrow too so that helps.
Car pool and granny duty later on. Dgson was in deep doo - doo yesterday the school called they have some essay test and dgson did not finish so life came to a hault last night for him to work on that.
It hailed and he got a ride part of the way home from a friends mom that did not know he was in trouble on the bus dd dropped him off a block or so from the school b/c it was cold, be dgson does not think it's fun to walk any more and is begging to appreciate the bus now so that is progress he is understanding that walking is his discipline now.
I've put two wheel borrow loads of sod out to go today yea! Got the neighbors trash out last of it for them yippie!
Around here we're trying to train the pullets to go inside the coop when it's time for the hens to come in until we ingrate them as one flock in a couple of weeks.

Re: Tuesday in Training
My days keep getting away from me.
Today was to be paperwork prep to do the year-end accounting and then prep the dining room for the meeting tonight (and prep my paperwork for that.)
I did exercise this morning so got downstairs at 9:30 for tea and breakfast. My senior friend called at 10, asking if I could take her for bloodwork today. It is not convenient (I need long blocks of time to get motivated on paperwork) but I agreed anyway because she wouldn't ask unless she was stuck.
I've got the dining room set up. There are 14 chairs around the table and a monitor that will hold the minister on skype. I have two places without chairs and one kitchen chair left. In theory up to 15 bodies could require chairs. But not everyone shows up to these meetings each time. Dh and I tested the Skype connection and the camera. Apparently it shifts as I type so I need to figure out how to stop that. The minister already has vertigo, I don't need to make it worse!
The others are to bring desserts for the meeting with Presbytery before hand, so I only have to put on tea and coffee. I have little plates to put out as well.

Re: Tuesday in Training
I've piddled around awhile looking at recipes and trying to find something I want to cook tonight. Dh has a golf tournament today so he will be home late most likely, unless bad weather cuts things short. I think I've decided on salmon and asparagus.
I need to head out - I think I've convinced myself to walk through the nearby hobby lobby before I get the groceries. Must also stop at bank and cleaners while I'm out.
It feels so good to be home today.

Already a success.
I think I've convinced myself to walk through the nearby hobby lobby before I get the groceries.
It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it.
My Hobby Lobby is miles and miles away from my grocery store. Pout.
This morning I received a telephone call of apology from a dear cousin and farm neighbor (dear again today, though he was not so yesterday) who definitely drew my anger yesterday. (So now ya'll don't have to listen to yesterday's rant after all.)
He did driveway work at my ddad's, unbidden. It turned into a tougher job than he'd thought, and so he took some old farm implements for his trouble, after only mentioning it to ds, who assumed he would surely talk to me. Well, ds is not my sibling and in no way my equal in any family decision - he is just ONE of my children, I don't care what sex he is. Dcousin apologized for being "presumptuous" (quite right), and went over that point twice, and then thanked me for forgiving him. I told him that he and I are able to say what we need to say to each other (which I did to him yesterday in no uncertain terms and got our old plow and disc harrow back) and that I had been too fond of him for too long to let one day bother me. Hopefully, he will not discount the need to check with me before he makes decisions in the future. This has to do with how he was reared (I can say that, considering my uncle reared him) and the mentality that you don't actually have to ask a woman before acting. I have been in tough conversation with ds as well, because we are going to nip that attitude at my generation, period.
Dd33 called HRH yesterday while I was out helping B, and while I was agreeing to have B's dd (dd14's friend) over for a night this weekend and take her to the Highland Games. Dd33 told HRH that she would likely be bringing her family to stay the weekend and go to the Highland Games. So both HRH and I agreed to extensive weekend responsibility for us, mostly me. Dstepdil hasn't been able to get over to my parent's house to work and neither have I. Her mother is having an operation this week anyhow. There's no reason to panic. I couldn't redeem all this if I tried, so I can be philosophical. Nothing will be ready for anybody, so everybody will be equal. No guilt.
