Monday at the Manor

It's the beginning of the week and the Manor gears up for activity.

The carriages are ready, the servants await their orders, little lords and ladies of the Manor need a bit of authority.

Time for us to arise and take over the running of our stately homes.

Here the Manor needs to get humming. The school run is accomplished and the earliest routines complete. My ddad says he doesn't want breakfast this early and has gone back to bed a while, but I'll set most of his breakfast out to wait.

Hmmm... ... lucylee, White Dove is one of those nearly-religious songs, like Precious Memories (which you probably remember me questioning for other services). It's about being sad, or even despondent, and the theology is off (humans turning into angels), so it's tough to think of your son having to brace himself to sing such a downer when there's another dove song he'd feel right singing. I've seen a lot of services in which a person thought they could handle sad lyrics but when the time came they were pretty miserable. Could your mother feel good about ds writing a last verse of his own that speaks of assurance instead of wandering in the graveyard? The author is unknown, anyway, and he could probably do it in a flash. Oh well, he's used to singing solos and I'm sure he can manage a song he wouldn't have chosen himself. Which Beulah Land, the slower one - love it.

Good Morning!

A good start to the morning makes me feel grateful and hopeful. I enjoy the challenge of trying to complete all the cards assigned to each time slot. I've set the bar high so I rarely achieve 100% completion so I always have the next time I attempt that time slot to look forward to.

Looking ahead at the calendar shows that I mis-counted LO remaining days of school. I missed that he has school a week from Wednesday. The schedule they prepared show Monday and Tuesday activities (awards ceremonies) for the 14 grades, but there wasn't anything on EOY schedule after Tuesday so I mistakenly assumed that was last day of school. I'll talk to his teacher about it, but I expect he doesn't need to attend Wednesday. He has a counselor appointment that morning so won't arrive to his classroom until after lunch is served. I suspect they will be very lax with attendance on last day of school.

My right knee is painful to walk on. I wore different brand & style boots the last several days, which I suspect is the cause. Today I've returned to the comfortable Ariat fatbaby boots and hope the knee will recover on its own.

Good morning! I'm on puppy duty right now, so I'm limited in what I can do. We worked out the cars for the week last night; there's some variation from day-to-day. Today, ds has the kid car; he dropped off the girls at school, and he'll be heading out to the first day at his summer internship/job in a minute. I'll pick up dd17 from school; she is not tutoring this week b/c of AP exams.

lucylee, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers today. ((HUGS))

Dd14 has a long day today; she left home around 7:20 a.m. and won't be home again until 9/9:30 pm. A friend's mom is picking her up after school (3:30-ish) to take her and dfriend to their first class of drivers ed!! I'll pick the girls up at 6, drop off dd14's friend, then take dd14 back to the high school for band rehearsal 6:30 - 8:30. After that, she is going to drumline rehearsal, which meets 7 - 9 pm. It's not totally clear if they have room for her or not.

My day:
- a.m. routine
- badly needed groc. store run
- exercise: either gym or jog outside. Dh went for a 10 mile run yesterday. I didn't join him. If I jog today, I'm out of sync with him, unless I keep the jog short - well, shorter than usual. LOL! We've heard that one should have a day between runs, though I jog so slowly that guideline likely wouldn't apply to me.
- emails re: steering committee meeting Friday a.m.
- pick up dd17 from school
- Hebrew class at 5:05 pm; I'll need to leave early to. .. .
- pick up dd14 and friend at 6
- dinner; something fast and easy, either tamales or pasta of some sort.

Well, have now talked to both my dsisil's this morning. DD got permission from her principal to take Friday off IF she could find a sub (which dprincipal warned her would be very difficult right now -one who would NOT cancel on her). She found a most reliable one last night, so we'll be off late Thursday afternoon. Going as far as my db/dsisil's in The Villages the first night. Then we can take off from there around 7 Friday morning. That puts us up almost 2 hours and we should be able to get away with just one night on the road. That, hopefully, will get us home late Saturday afternoon. I'm happy. And I'm sure dh will be very happy. We will have been apart 7 weeks and we don't like it. DD has decided to have dh park her MHome and she will stay in it this weekend. That will give her ample opportunity to get it ready for her summer stay. Great idea for her and for us. Not that we would mind her staying with us at all. But she can camp for $6/night. Why not and that will give her a sense of freedom too.

Thinking of dLucyLee today. May it be a day filled with good things, though sadness will be present.

I've done a LOL and have it all folded and put away already. Nice! I was awake at 4:30, making a l&&t of things I need to do this week or buy. Going over to see dsisil later this afternoon.

Off to get dressed (I had ALL my clothes in the laundry earlier) and be on with my day.
the servants await their orders,
Servants? What servants? Mine didn't show up today. They're fired!

Good morning, villagers ~

(((Lucylee))) I have not heard the first song you mentioned, but remember the second. I'd be inclined to ask DS to try a medley of the two dove songs, 1 or 2 verses of the sad one and then end with the more upbeat song. I hope you hear a lot of stories about your DDad today that will give you comfort and make you smile. It is ok to enjoy being with your family and friends at the same time as you are grieving for your DDad; he loved his family and would be pleased that you are all together.

OH MY GOODNESS.
As if the horrible song is not enough...
GUESS WHO I LEFT OUT OF THE OBITUARY???

Dstepgm... and her children...

OH MY GOODNESS.

Never dawned on me until she called me this morning, and did not dawn on me THEN, as I was telling her she & her children were all expected to come back to the church and eat with us afterwards... and FINALLY, when she said, "Well... I don't know... I may just come to the funeral and go back home... lucy, who made that up for the paper...?"

THEN... it hit me!!!

OH MY GOODNESS.

And of course, it was all me. All me... dmom didn't even SEE the obituary on paper, just listened to me read it aloud over the phone. DH, DS -- they edited with me... NONE of us realized. But it's pretty bad, b/c there have been some issues between her & my uncle, and a little tiny mis-communication between her & my dad, and now this. PLUS, she is in the process of moving out of the house she & my dgf lived in, to be closer to her own children... so... NOT a good time to look as if we are cutting ties with her.
* sigh *

So... called her ddil, whom I go to church with... called my daunt... called & e-mailed our local, weekly paper, where it will not be seen until Wednesday, asked for correction... cried, apologized...

OH MY GOODNESS.

Y'all please pray.

And now, morning of... dcousin wants to drive ddad's 63 Pontiac in the funeral procession. * sheesh *
* shaking my head *

Y'all please pray.

(((Lucylee))) Yes, that is pretty bad. Sorry that happened and I hope they can be made to feel a part of it. Is it too late to have them do a reading at the funeral?

*******

I have the best husband. This is why anniversaries and Mother's Days are so artificial. Today is the day I need to shout praises about my dh.

I was sick last night. Got eyes shut at 11:30. Woke up in mid-trunk pain at 12:30 and assumed it was my back after all the walking yesterday. Dug out the heating pad (waking up dh.) Pain got worse not better and I realized it was digestive track. Dug out my medicine bag (waking up dh) and realized that not only did I leave behind my allergy pills, my X antac was missing too. Tried tums and gasx but pain got worse. Dh offered hospital but I decided to try the other med first, so at 1:30 he got dressed, got the desk clerk to find him a 24 hour pharmacy (Wal mart) and drove out to the suburbs to get that for me. Then dropped it off and then had to return the car to the garage (2 blocks from here.)

While he was gone, I was sick a couple of times which brought the pain down to discomfort and I dozed. After I took the pill, I kept it down for an hour but the pain got worse until I was sick again. From that point on, I made it through the night.

Dh did all that without a rough word, or even an exasperated sigh and was up early. He went down and brought up yoghurt, rice krispies and toast for me to have.

Tea and toast are in me now. My insides are still sore but I'm managing. Will s2s now.

(((lucylee))) I am so sorry that happened but please, please don't beat yourself up over it. By having your dm, dh and ds edit it and not catch it, proves that at a stressful time like this, things happen. You would never intentionally hurt your dsgs feelings. You have always spoken of her here with so much love and respect.

When my dstepdad passed away, db and dm made the arrangements at the funeral home and did the obituary. They just listed his 2 boys, my 2 dbs and I as children. They didn't list our spouses which is common to do now. When my dsisil read it, she commented "where am I"? My dm and db felt terrible because she had been so much help while he was in the hospital. I just don't think anyone should hold it against someone when these things happen.

lucylee, I like Kathryns suggestion that you make sure they are included in the reading at the funeral. You are having an obituary correction. What more can you do? Surely, they undertstand that this time last week you headed to Houston and things went downhill from there. You need and deserve a break on this.
