Stay Cool Thursday

Post by DeeClutter »

So many of us are in 'too warm' territory. Stay cool however you can today -cool in temperature and cool in any other way that applies to you.

Dh and are will be on our way to cardiac rehab in just a few minutes. His appointment is at 8am about 25 miles away. I was NOT ready to get up.

It's already nearly 80 outside. See it's supposed to be 94 tomorrow. Much warmer than we're used to. Feel badly for those who can't get out of the heat at all.

Have a small birthday party for ddil#1 Saturday night and one for dgs1 on Sunday. I will be partied out, no doubt.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

Bungled morning in some ways. I decided not to jog this morning and go to the gym this afternoon. Maybe not a bungle, actually; this way I can join dh jogging tomorrow a.m.

Dogs were in sit-stay mode for bfast (previous trainer suggested we use before meal time for training Pepper, which we've continued, adding a variety of tricks which we cycle through) when I noticed ds left his lunch on the counter. I ran it out to him as he was pulling out of the driveway. When I got back inside, Maia was no longer in sit-stay mode and was happily consuming her bfast. Pepper wasn't quite there yet; she understands the commands better, but she was wandering toward her bfast. . . . Then, I didn't get Maia to the "pen" this morning b/c I was on the phone making orthodontist appts. for the girls when the dogs finished eating -- and let themselves outside. (They can nose open the 2nd (sometimes screen) door if the main door is open since the latch doesn't work. Kathryn may remember this detail about the door.)

I'm really out of the loop regarding you ladies; yesterday felt nonstop, as you know.

Dh bought a duffle bag before I could suggest a hockey bag. He said that was a good idea, though. He had gone to a (pricey) camping goods store that has a sale this week every year to buy a sleeping bag and got a duffle while he was there.

Dee, I was sorry to hear about that awful car accident. I hope the girl? in serious condition pulls through. Families must be hurting and worried right now. That intersection sounds bad.

I hope Harriet is feeling better.

I also hope Twins and her dmom had a nice trip to visit her dsis. . . . That was yesterday, right?

((Lynlee)) for dominant person.
and 2x 0000 grow suits @ $5 each
What are grow suits?

Besides dog care, an email, and making the ortho appts., I have finally read the introduction to the survey for the moms group and offered my two cents worth; not much to offer at this point.

Next:
- s2s
- other progress on a.m. routing
- Maia has vet appt. at 9:30

Later Today:
- update li&t of what needs to be done before we leave
- finish last few baby shower invitations
- email resume and new cover letter to director
- laundry - not many clothes but I'm woefully behind with the towels and bedding. . .
- maybe Walgreens for sundry items for our trip
- dh returns around 5/5:30; then, we're immediately going to a bbq his work group is having
- girls return from the Detroit trip at 11:30 pm, so I'll go pick them up.

Good morning!

The bug guy called and wanted to come today. Since I did not get anything done yesterday but laundry, I put him off until tomorrow morning. So now I have to get busy, so here goes nothing..............

Weather here is still hot but slightly cooler than a few days ago and I don't think it will feel like over 100 for the rest of the week. It is sunny, though, this morning so with the humidity it already feels like over 90 and it is 8:30 in the morning.

I slept much better last night but was weak before going to bed and am weak this morning as well. Don't know if it is the heat, poor nutrition (I'm trying hard to eat well) or just a step back on recovery after a stressful mentally, although non-physical day yesterday. My pedometer is indicating I'm barely moving at all (didn't break 3K steps yesterday) so it isn't physical exhaustion!

Today is singing, although I haven't sung a note in over two weeks so I'm not sure I'll sing. Christmas carols is the theme. Some how in this heat, it seems awful to be doing that. I'd rather do Bicycle Built for Two and Lazy Hazy, Crazy, Days of Summer.

First challenge breakfast and see how that sits. I've s2s and am wearing white and red.

Can't sing a C above middle C (i.e. can't sing Doe, a deer) so will not be singing alongside dh and definitely no duets. He's not even practicing which is driving me nuts since it would be nice to warm up my voice somewhat and I don't feel like doing so on my own since he changes keys for all the songs. I do know that whenever I try to sing a higher note (la, ti, doe), I have coughing fits. My breathing is still way off (I'm breathing shallowly and often still have uneven breathing like when one is crying and you are sobbing and trying to get air.) I'm still trying to practice breathing but in this extreme heat it is hard to do so, even when in a/c.

Wow, I never thought Canada got that hot!

I had to turn down the a/c a couple degrees this morning. I am feeling so poorly I thought a little cooler would perk me up a bit.

Big cleanup in the kitchen this morning. DW is running. Even dragged in the high stepladder to put a couple high things away, 1 in kitchen, 1 back in DH bedroom closet. Big heavy scubba mesh tote bag. That was a challenge. DH was looking for some kind of shoes he could wear on the beach and left the bag out.

This house is a challenge. Lots of high shelves, and I don't use them except for things I don't usually have a use for. Oh well, it's nice to have storage.

Working at my desk, it's unbelievably bad. Just working my way down through the piles of papers, picking up the top ones first and just writing stuff on top of the pile, that's how bad it is, and it got that way in 1 day. I'm not even halfway through.

Think the "social" time at the bank yesterday when I had to be alert and conversational while signing papers and then the errands sitting in hot car did me in. Thought I'd feel better, but today I woke up with that worn out feeling. I am so ready for this to be over. I have another month before I go back to be retested. I believe it took about 6 weeks for me to feel better when I originally started on this medicine. My friend IRL does fine on the same stuff, her DH did not and had to be changed. The chemical form of this stuff has implications for bone strength so I don't want to change if I don't have to. But it's becoming a quality of life thing and I might have to. We'll see.

I'm thinking about all of the above and wondering, Kathryn, how can you do sermons. Or the singing either. I know I couldn't right now.

I do have a church function tonight and I'm so sorry I signed up to help. When I did I assumed I'd be feeling better by then. sigh... DFriend is coming by with spaghetti sauce and a meatloaf she had in her freezer. Guess she's trying to help since this is the gal I cooked the turkey for when she had her operation. I didn't do it to get something in return and it's hard to accept knowing she's still recovering, but I know it blesses her to do it so I have to be willing...she's coming this afternoon.

Continuing to take a running start at each day and continuing to fail early. Today is the first day since my ddad's death that we have not had at least one announced visitor on the horizon. (And of course, drop-ins were probable.) But today is the day the article comes out about my ddad and I feel somehow personally responsible to get several copies of the paper in hand, and inform particular family members, etc. I've seen the words of the article but not the paper - he generally did a good job, but one amazing typo gives my ddad credit for a certain success at age 20 rather than 50. It's in a quote from me, sigh. Also two paragraphs that contradict each other - thankfully side-by-side, so I think that won't be so bad. My first name is misspelled, so maybe that will serve me well - people won't assume I was too involved, lol!

Anyway, believe it or not, I feel pressure about this (first normal???) day! I've almost gotten used to so much social activity that I couldn't be expected to accomplish other things.

I so want to believe I can recapture my routines, my dailies, and get back to normalcy. Sometimes still directionless. Disappointed to have accomplished so little since my ddad's death. It's not IGAD syndrome (I got all day). It's difficulty with prioritizing when so many things deserve priority. helia used the phrase "bungled morning". Every decision I make seems to "bungle" some other priority that had just as much merit.

Sadie, I wanted to tell you I noticed your comment about the death of the second parent and I understand what you were trying to express.

"grow suits" definition - I'm going to guess they are "onesies" (one-piece infant clothing), possibly with more than one closure so they grow with baby?

Church responsibilities discussion - Harmony, I am avoiding yet another funeral even as we speak, so I feel for you tonight. I got to thinking about my quick decision to go to the other graveside service, which became so social. I think it's just not good for me right now and I need to learn my limitations. I may arrive late for Sunday service and leave early and call that a week.

Woke up to a beautiful morning. The sun is sparkling on the cottonwood tree leaves as the breeze makes them flutter. I did tell you we are in a grove of cottonwoods, didn't I.

This time of the morning is peaceful as the fishermen are all out on the lake and the kids are still asleep.

It is fun watching my little bird sit on the post and then dart after the gnats or mosquitoes or whatever it is s/he is chasing and catching. I can also hear some wrens in the distance, scolding away.

A view from the future (I am over 70 and talking to younger women) Please, PLEASE don't push yourselves so much.
Harmony, call and tell someone you are ill and can't come tonight.
Harriet, be kind to yourself, take a nap, a walk, or just put on some music and rest.
Kathryn, take time to heal. Six weeks to two months is needed after regular surgery (without complications) and up to a year to really feel good again. Your body needs it.
Lynlee, be careful not to do too much, your arm needs to heal, too.
MR. Dee, Ditto all of the above. Your body is trying to tell you something. LISTEN to it. I don't care how antsy you feel. Sit down and let yourself heal. Quit being the social butterfly. All these people will become a year older without you attending all these birthday parties.

There are a lot more of you out there, but this is getting long enough. Delegate, pace yourself and plain LET IT GO!! Life is too short to fret over dust bunnies and social obligations. Go for a walk, listen to the birds, smell the roses. Enjoy life.

Off the soap box.
It’s never too late to be what you might have been.

Yes, Harriet, to your comment about Church activities. You need to just take it easy and realize your present bumpy road will straighten out gradually. That's what DH tells me about this recent set-back, not to worry, it's temporary. We have another memorial luncheon coming up in 2 weeks, and I'm afraid to volunteer. I was surprised to learn just how draining anything "social" can be when I'm not 100%. I'm in awe of people who are energized by social stuff. It's sure not me.

MT, I am really considering it except that we are short-handed already. We are all bringing cookies or fruit and if I make it I'll be picking up something on the way, not coming early for the set-up or staying for cleanup. It's a ladies' prayer meeting. Your advice is spot on. I'm just antsy to get well, like everybody else around our village.
