Wristwatch Wednesday

What's on your timetable today? Do you glance at your wrist as often as I do? :)

The recent time change made me think of our wristwatches (or some of us may use phones, pocketwatches, pendant watches, secret agent rings, :D ). Without my wristwatch, I'm a lost homemaker! I'm forever glancing, making sure I'm on schedule. I have a few set-in-stone moments I must attend every day, of course, but I'm glancing to see how I'm doing on known tasks' timing, whether I think I'll have a chance at adding a chore before an appt or whether phoning someone could happen now or later. I glance at my wrist when the phone rings, sometimes, to track how much time I spend chatting (my cousins and I will stay on the phone too long!) When the 5 o'clock hour approaches, I am probably glancing at my wrist again, wondering if there's any business left undone.

Lately, I have to look at my watch to convince myself it's not MUCH later in the day than I thought! The time change has me confused still until I look at that trusty wristwatch!

By the way, speaking of secret agents, a phone on our wrists is a little closer to reality, but the new Samsung one is getting mixed reviews. I love these snippets:
"A Pain in the Wrist", "Arguably makes you look like a dork. You have to squint to look like a secret agent.", "Bulgy", "Finally, Dick Tracy!", "Bring an umbrella, you can't get it wet.", "Pretty dodgy for something you're spending $300 on".

Oh, well. The kinks will be worked out on some future models and someday we'll all be talking to our wrists. But like one of the reviewers said, "the future is obviously a long way off". ;)

(moving my Wednesday in the Kitchen post here)
Good morning, villagers ~

Today is the day I make 2 or 3 batches of fudge for the library's fund-raising event on Saturday.

The ticket price for Saturday includes "tasting tables" where we will have a mix of savoury appetizers and sweets. The committee has been sending me their recipes so I can do page layouts and get them ready to print for attendees to take home.

So far it looks like a very yummy bunch of holiday party food.

Do you have family favorites that you make for the holidays? Do you know where those recipe cards are? Can you start buying any of the ingredients this week to spread out the cost over November and December, or do you prefer to do 1 major grocery run to stock up on everything at once?

I've been wearing a watch since Sunday night but just to use the countdown timer on it. I have few places I need to be on time and for those, I use the clocks in the house, car, or my cell phone.

Sherinjoy I've never been to New Zealand so I can't suggest anything. I'm going twice in February, once by ship to three or four different ports and then again on my way home after the cruise. That time I'll be based in Wellington, hopefully living in an apartment and spending time with ds (who we intend to fly over to join us for that part of the trip.)

I'm up and at it. Got my bike physio in. Knees are getting better incrementally despite some major abuse this past week (lifting, stairs, 5 hours driving in a car.) I've been very responsible doing my physio although I missed Saturday and Sunday. I have a hike next Saturday so need them in top condition. Oh, and crammed into an airplace seat for 5 hours will also stress them. Haven't decided if I'm bringing my ice packs or not. They'll be in checked baggage and are heavy. More importantly, I don't think I have a fridge in any of our hotel rooms so it doesn't seem worth it. I'll bring tensor bands and zip lock bags and make temporary ice packs if I need them from ice machines ice in the hotels.

Today we have errands:

1. Presbytery volunteering (and return the borrowed dolly)
2. Presbytery committee meeting (me)
3. Blood work (dh)
4. Drop off a car load of stuff at the thrift store
5. Flu shots

But before then I have paperwork to work on and laundry to do.

Booksaver: In the sweets end, I like to make shortbread and sugar cookies. In the savoury end, dh makes eggrolls.

Good Morning!

I'm heading in the right direction to return to "normal". Sorta. Maybe not but that is what I'm telling myself.

LO has been launched to school, with hope that he makes it through the day without getting sick to stomach from coughing. I gave him prescription nose spray plus 12 hour cough meds along with his antibody meds this morning. He is way past the 24 hour mark of being contagious so our biggest concern is the coughing fits.

DH is preparing to leave for his trip/time with DSon. Which means I take over DH duties at MPB. Not really because I'm just going to do bare minimum to coast by until DH returns, however even doing bare minimum will add 3-4 hours of work to my day. Hopefully.....unless a pipe breaks, or motor blows up, or a customer runs into a wall, or any of the other mini catastrophic events that happens several times a year without warning.......however, I'm hopeful none of those things will happen while DH is gone.

Both sides of our families are blessed with Mothers who still want (demand?) to do the majority of the cooking for the holidays. They both prepare huge feast that can easily feed 50 people....including an abundance of desserts (homemade pies, cakes, cookies, candy, etc). Sometimes I cook complete holiday meals at home too because I want to start traditions for our grandchildren in our home. Needless to say..- there is WAaaY too much food during the holidays around here.

Ds sent a quick note to say he's alive and that they are heading south to Airlie and will be taking a 3 day boat cruise so he won't be in contact again for a while. Long drive today but he's not at the wheel so intends to work on his blog (it has been 10 days since the last update and jumping from bridges and airplanes took place in that time!)

I'm assuming scuba diving is involved as well but he didn't mention it because he doesn't tell me about scary things until they are done.

I have someone updating the church membership rolls and they needed copies of the statistics for 2006 - 2009, so I cut and paste those into a document for him. Apparently neither of the last two ministers were good at updating the historic roll, they both worked just from the Google Doc. That's NOT the way it is supposed to work so we are scrambling to update 6 years of records.

I'm plugging away at the paperwork piles in the dining room. I have an hour until it is time to start the washer and about 2 hours until I'm leaving for errands.

Peeking in. I have 10 minutes. . .

x up, s2s
x drove dd15 and GG to school
x went to orthodontist w/ dd18
x some of a.m. routine
x punched holes in 200 copies of uniform instructions
x looked at notes in band notebook; went through supplies in boxes. Cleared out box for concert uniform tags. Got supplies together.
x a couple emails I felt were important
x managed my banana and tea for bfast; am finishing some brunch.

As soon as I'm done with my yogurt, I'm going to do teeth and face care. I'll put on a bit of make up so I don't scare away the high school students. LOL! Then, I'm off to the copy shop - I found a page of instructions I'd like copied for my volunteers. I don't want to bother the band director. Or maybe I will. . . I just need 4 copies. Then, I'm off to the school. I still need to set up the room; there are a bunch of chairs stored in there that are stacked and blocking some of the closets. I also need to re-familiarize myself with the closets and sizing system.

Dd15 will be joining me during her lunch hour to take care of a pesky button that I had sewed back on - and ended up positioning wrongly on the suit jacket. She couldn't do it at home; she wanted to see other jackets for comparison to see the correct position.

I hope to be home before 3:30. Girls will be home about then, a little after.

Good Morning Y'all...

Well I'm up and attm' this morning. Doggies feed, kitchen done, footprints removed, and I'm dressed and ready for the day.

Sat night's menu is done and so is my shopping list. I am making a walnut/raisin/cranberry/apple pie for dessert. I have everything piled on my table so I can set it early Sat morning...that will keep the dishes dust free.

I got contacts after visiting the eye doctor yesterday. Been 10 years since I've worn them. My vision isn't as good as glasses, but I expected that. Right now I am trying to get my eyes to adjust to this mono vision. The contact in my left eye is for close up and the one in my right is for distances. It will take a while before my brain clicks allowing me to see in a normal way. I can see very well close up, which is interesting cause that usually the last thing to focus. I can see pretty well far away, but what I am having trouble with is mid-range. Right now sitting at the computer I can't see my words very well...everything is a blur. I've worn contacts this way for ten years before I had my lasik surgery so I know it takes time for my eyes to adjust.

I have a few errands to do today...My first impluse is to take the contactsout and just wear my glasses...which of course I ate. However I know that I need to make my eyes work to over come the "clicking" issue, so I'll just take my time and stumble along. I know how much happier I'll be in the long run. The trick is to be stubborn enough to stick it out. I have to go back to the dr next Wed, and if it still my vision still hasn't click then I will ask about bi-focal contacts.

Off to finish my hair...I'll cy'all later... remember to enjoy the day....

OKay, I think you and I ought to head to Cowinkie's for dessert on Saturday. That pie sounds good!

No progress here. Dh was on his conference call and I tend to shut down when he is. That's the biggest problem I have with the office being on the main floor of the house.

walnut/raisin/cranberry/apple pie
I've never had a pie like that, but it sounds delicious.

After days of being behind and not able to keep up with the dirty dishes & mounds of dirty clothes, I have finally manage to restore the kitchen and laundry to MM status. The last load of clothes are drying now, all others have been put away. I put together a beef/vegetable soup and it is simmering on the stove top now.

Next door neighbors just found out he has cancer a couple days ago. They still don't know the stage or source of the cancer. They announced today (FB) that they are bringing in hospice today to manage his pain. EEks! I know my day is full, but giving them emotional/community support just went zooming to the top of my to-do list. This is just to hard to deal with alone and I'm sure they need all the emotional support they can get. HUmmm..... thinking......I have some cookies in freezer that are ready to bake. It will take less than 30 minutes to bake them and take a plate over to Neighbors. *POOF*

You are all welcome around my dinning room table Sat night or any other night for that matter. But just in case you have a previous engagement for this coming evening, I have posted my recipe in the Kitchen section. It a yummie pie by the way :D
