Finish it strong Friday

Finishing the week strong this week means to me wrapping up loose ends, organizing oneself for what still needs to be accomplished, prioritizing and finishing the week with a sense of accomplishment.

Lots to do still to make next week and the rest of this year productive and peaceful.

And again it's Friday and I'm up early and need to go at it to get ready for dcleaning lady. OMM and PODA stuff for today:

-Straighten up enough so dcleaning lady can clean this morning
-see dmom and refill meds, etc.
-bonuses + cards for dcleaning lady and for temple employees
-drop off at dry cleaners
-gift card for dMacs' physical therapist for tomorrow
-if I get back home from dmom's early enough, I might make challah today
-plans for next week - when to go see dsis, do mom, dbro, nephew, et al want to go?
-start getting information together for temple newsletter editor
-what else?

I am not planning to go to temple tonight - I've spent a lot of time this week on temple biz and need a break and a night at home. I've been out the last two nights and we'll be out tomorrow night also.

-straighten/clear kitchen counters
-straighten master bath/closet
-start a load of delicates that I can hang to dry
-put dry cleaning in the car
-breakfast

About last day of "work" yesterday - I haven't worked since the end of tax season, which was April 15. I've been pretty sure all along that I wouldn't come back in late summer or for tax season, but didn't want to burn bridges. After tax season I took home a lot of personal stuff and left my office looking neat but with some personal items. Yesterday was clearing out the rest of my stuff (old papers, old continuing education materials that I have to retain for five years, et al.) But a little weird nonetheless. Hugs from tax partner that I've worked with so much.

This, Cowinkie and Lucylee:
There is great freedom ...now if its cold when I wake up, I can snuggle back under the covers without any guilt. I can drink a second cup of coffee without gulping it down, I can start reading a book at 7 am and finish like you did at 1:30am that nigh/morning. All the things I wanted to do but couldn't when I was working. I don't have that Sunday night dread, or its finally Friday feel.
I guess I have replaced my role as a teacher w/my role as wife and grandma, and daughter, but I am at a point where my family really does need me a lot. And sometimes, that IS sorta suffocating, but I am really, really glad I am available for them.
OTOH, I feel like I've filled up my time with temple stuff that might have gone undone or delegated while I was working so I'm not really free until my term expires in April. But I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Have several things I need to finish "strong" on today. Need to get the pictures (of dh & me) framed and sent out to ds's up north as well as 'mini' pictures for all the dgks.

Headed out to church very shortly to do the bulletin for Sunday. Had lots of calls this week with changes/additions so hope I get it all right.

This is dd's last day of 'teaching' for 2013. They're actually at the Lakeland Center all day for ice skating with all the students. Think the 'elective' teachers are all there to help with each class as they come in for their turn. The center is located across the street so it's not far for anyone to go. Sounds like the kids are having a great time.

Looks like another nice day here.

Got very tied up in construction traffic on the main street (which is just off dd's street) yesterday. Couldn't make dsisil understand why we had to go on Main Street to get to the restaurant where we were to meet them for breakfast. When you exit from dd's street the only road you can turn on IS Main St. Not sure why that was confusing her???? She certainly knows the territory. They were paving the road -first ground up the existing road and laid it back down a couple of weeks ago and put new sod along the sides. Thought they were done, then they started adding asphalt over that road. Nicest this road has been since dd moved here. Realized last night that they have also put in reflectors along the entire road. We slowly realized they had not been existent before. Nice help. These roads are horrible for bike riders/walkers. There is absolutely no shoulder and it so hard when bikes are out on them at night, dark clothes to boot!

Off to finish getting ready. Dh should be home from his walk shortly. He didn't go yesterday -he was really worn out from his 'episode' Wednesday night. Really takes a lot out of him and it takes a few days for him to recuperate. Thinking I'll keep an eye on airfare and if something lower comes up, may just have him fly home for a little and see about getting into doctors up there. He is beginning to write down when he has these 'attacks' as they seem to be increasing.

DD still doesn't know when she'll be going to see gd for Christmas. IF (and that's a mighty big IF) she gets a 2-hour pass, she'll go see her Dec. 26th & take her to lunch, If not, she'll go Christmas Day to see her and take her few gifts. Pretty sure she won't be 'working' toward that pass -she had asked dd to bring her ipod if she got the 2-hour pass & dd told her that wouldn't be happening. They're supposed to be working on building family relationships -not FB & texting friends. She's also told her that if/when she comes home for a visit that there will be no internet on.

Ok, off to get my shoes on and comb my hair & put on a little makeup.

Glad there's a light, Twins.

Good morning, villagers ~
I like this theme, Twins'Mom.

DH is not driving to work today because of the ice on all the roads.

Highs will be in the 20s, which is warm but not warm enough to clear the ice. We're supposed to continue to receive freezing rain all day, eventually getting colder and switching over to snow. For tomorrow they're forecasting 4 to 9 inches of snow. I'm glad I went to WM for groceries yesterday, so we can easily stay home for a few days in a row.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they are right about the bad weather moving away Sunday night. That will give the road crews all of Monday to clear the highways for Christmas Eve travel.

DH does have to work Tuesday, which is unusual. We are hoping the bosses will let everyone go at noon. However, everyone may have to stay the whole day if too many people are unable to get there today because of the ice.

Finishing the week strong: Last task for the library group before Christmas, I want to talk to the group's president about the Lego club we're trying to get started. School is cancelled today so her kids will be home, but it still might be tricky to catch her. We have been getting resistance from some of the group members about spending the money to start a Lego club. I have gathered a lot of info from libraries around us who already have kids coming to their clubs, and I've had 2 long conversations with our children's librarian about what she would like to do with the club. Pres and I need to compare notes from our separate research, and come up with a strategy to convince the naysayers that this club will be worth the money. We're only talking about $250 or so, less than the cost of a chair!

For lunch I pulled a package of mushroom tortellini and a jar of sauce from my "emergency" bag. We have "must-goes" in the fridge for supper. Other than that, today's plan needs to be adjusted for DH being home. Who knows what will happen? :?

Coming back through while finishing my oatmeal. Additions to above OMM list:

-groceries
-possibly cooking Shabbat dinner for me, dh and ds
-try to clean out the car...

Next round:
-straighten master br
-clear kitchen table
-straighten my desk
-meds/vitamins
-move stuff on the bottom of steps upstairs....linens, towels, some dd stuff

This will have house straightened up enough, I think.

Bookie, a lego group sounds great. The small library where we used to live had a chess club on Monday nights. There were a handful of adults who attended and mentored the kids and those who wanted to learn.

Good Morning!

Yesterday after attending LO Christmas party at school, then mailing DGD2 Christmas to her, then visiting DMom.....I reached a point I couldn't ignore my symptoms anymore. I put myself in bed and stayed there for 12 hours. I feel better this morning but am still feeling sluggish and generally yucky. I can't stay in bed anymore (it makes my back hurt) so I'll plod along with the cards.

Tomorrow plans are very shaky. We haven't cancelled them ...yet.........
** Still watching the weather closely. It is going to be very close (time/place) whether we will be driving in ice or rain.
** Can I get better before tomorrow?
** Is whatever I have contagious?

I am still enjoying listening to TEDxTalks while going through the day. Ever once in a while I find one that I can't just listen to it, but must watch. I'm currently watching The mathematics of weight loss. I'm not educated enough to know if he is telling the truth, but he presents it in such a fun way that I find it fascinating. :)

Taking a small break. I think I have more to do than I can get done today. Hoping I can do some shopping tomorrow as well that would help. Thankfully, I'm not needed to help at the soup kitchen! However, we're forecast to have a low of 32 and a high of 33 tomorrow, with 100% chance of precipitation - and 1-3 inches of snow and ice. . . .Still musing about the possibility of outages tomorrow and Sunday. I have charged my cell phone. Will gas the van later. Right now it is 41 and drizzly.

I have:
- done some of a.m. routine. I haven't made the bed or done teeth care.
- made brownies for dd18's requested dessert for tonight
- poked around online and on our bookshelves for tutoring resources. We own 2 copies of Clement Moore's 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, so I'm bringing those plus printed out copies of the poem. Have some activities to do with that (English rhythm - it's excellent for that!, vocab., forming questions practice). Also, found a passable article on the history of the Christmas tree; I found several different ones, none of which I particularly liked. this one will do. We'll just look at a couple sections. So, tutoring is planned!
- had lunch

Next:
- teeth care
- fold random laundry left in the dryer which ds just found
- grab tutoring materials and a snack
- head out to: (1) gas the van (2) Walgreens for more shoe gifts + candy canes for my students (3) mall shopping (4) tutoring (5) home to fetch dd15 and take her to synchro practice (6) home again around 5:30. . .

5:30 - I'll order the sushi for dd18's dinner, finish making the trifle, wrap gifts - if time. I'd love to do a quick pu/pa in the house but I doubt I'll have time. I'll pick up the food when it's ready and then dd15 around 7:00. Then it will be time to finish prepping for the festivities. I don't know when I should tell S, R, and J to be here. ..

I hope everyone here has a good day!!
