Saturday Reboot

ShellShock is the latest internet nasty floating around and the inoculation to protect us seems to have wiped every post from today (across all forums and threads.)

So, all we can do is reboot our day.

Gotta run now, still at dd's party, rudely typing while others are chatting. Thankfully, I had my computer.

BTW: my Avast is giving me a warning about the site certificate. The smarter people at this party say it is ok.

I'm so sorry this had to happen at our little Village, Kathryn! Hoping it stays up and "safe", too! :!:

We're doing a Conga today. I've dusted and dust mopped the house. I made the bed, tidied my end table, my office, the main office, and next up are the bathrooms and kitchen. Then I'm done. DD and DGS come tomorrow, to have lunch.

The clouds were here, then sunshine came, it remains sunny and dry, too. Sunday will be a nice day, too.

Have a great Saturday, Everybody! Hopefully everyone will come back to re-post now that we're up again and rebooted. :D

Thank you Kathryn for getting us started again.

The internet would be wonderful if there were no bad problems with it.

I was grateful I was able to submit payroll taxes online with no problems. I'm always apprehensive until I have that done successfully. After I did all my desk chores closing out the month and the quarter, I came here and thought I was going slightly mad... because it was so late in the day and there was no thread!

Dusted the house and picked up some things, did kitchen chores, put dinner in crockpot. Plus my 4 hours' work at my desk, I'm just taking it easy now watching tv.

Thanks for being alert to a problem here and apologies to those where you are. I only noticed that when I came in a while ago that I had to login -which I haven't had to do in a long time. Obviously those posts from today are long gone. Hope that's the end of it.

Had about 220 kids trick or treating and I am tired. Been up since about 5:30 and on the go most of the day. Dh is absolutely exhausted -it's been an extremely busy day for him and then he had a winterization to do after work. Took him much longer than he expected as he kept forgetting things he had to go back to the shop for -wonder why. Think his brain is more than fried. He's gone now to take a shower then is going to stop by Boulder Hall for a bit to listen to the band (not long). It got very cool after the sun went down -was an absolutely stellar day! Don't remember ever having the celebration of Halloween on a nice day here. There was crafts last night, a big pancake breakfast this morning, trick or treating 2-5 and a spaghetti dinner 5-6:30 and a band at 7. The people who put on the dinner also did the breakfast -they HAVE to be tired.

Hmmm... ... have had company or responsibilities almost all day, so a little sketchy on what/when happened. I do remember having a moment when I wondered if my green-eyed-boy had deleted a post I was writing because it wasn't still there to be edited yet it wasn't posted either. I guess I had posted but just at the wrong time. Sorry, guys... I don't remember ... ... oh, wait yes I do. I may try to recreate later. It was another thread.

Need to jump in the shower and wash my hair and then before bed I'll put it up in a scrunchie. I have to be at church at 8:30 a.m. for rehearsal.

Today was a rollercoaster. Ds and I had a long, long talk about many happy things and also many long-term things that are quite serious. I think I stress-ate in response after he left. Before he arrived, we got the bathroom painted. Little niece did not come. But dbil was worried we'd gotten the wrong paint, which would have been my fault. Long story, but over now and looks great. All painted. My kitchen looks like an earthquake hit. Nothing has been done.

Home now. Exhausted yet feel I didn't do much.

1. Loaded the car with the things to go out to the house and to ds's apartment. Also took our dolly and folding cart which was a brilliant move.

2. Unloaded the things staying at the house (mainly packing material to wrap furniture in.) Helped ds load his bed into the two cars. Dh cleaned the gutters. Transferred dolly to ds's car because with his mattress in ours there wasn't room for it. This turns out to be a brilliant move.

3. Headed to dd's for her party. Ds stops in at an auto shop and buys tarps.

4. Headed to Walmart and picked up a curtain rod, shower curtain, toilet paper and paper towels for ds. Plus raisin bread for his breakfast tomorrow.

5. Headed to ds's apartment. With the dolly he took up one load before we got there. The second load included everything in the car but the mattress and the third load was the mattress. So we managed to empty two cars in three loads. Yay!

6. I put up the curtains. Ds went to assemble his bed but he's missing a part (left at the house) so he made his mattress up on the floor. Dh and I ordered pizza and picked it up since that's faster than delivery.

7. Ate aboriginal style (in circle on floor) and then we headed home so ds could sleep before his shift tonight.

Tomorrow we have church in the morning, then start packing at the house. Hopefully the tower will be sold tomorrow afternoon as well. Ds will join us when he wakes up. We'll eat dinner on our way home, ds will sleep before his night shift.

Monday is going to be super busy. Ds will sleep until we show up with the first load. Dh and I will rent the truck at 8 and drive out to the house, load it with the items we've prepped, and head to ds's apartment and then wake him up. He should get 3+ hours sleep before having to start his moving day. On the plus side, we only have to move the things that won't fit in the cars and almost everything fits in the cars. So we'll focus on the big stuff. We only have the truck until 5 and rush hour will badly slow us down since one load is coming from dd's at the opposite end of the highway.

I did some reading on Shellshock. For once, I'm not vulnerable since it only runs on Unix based machines (like dh's!) Its main attack is/will be on servers which is why the boards went down.

The word we got from our webhost was that they were taking steps to protect against Shellshock and had moved the websites to a backup servers to operate while they inoculated their main servers. We knew that as of this morning, because they had sent out a notice late last night. But what we failed to understand is that when they moved back to the protected server, they would be bringing up the backup, not the board that had been running all day.

So what happened is our posts from today were lost.

Had we fully understood what was happening, I would have locked the boards this morning, but we didn't understand. Dsil may have lost work as a result as well.

Now that we are back up and running, I think we should be fine. Dh isn't as confident because he was having trouble accessing our corporate website. We made no changes to it today so it should be just fine, but he couldn't get through to it. I can get through to here and to our corporate site fine so had dh check his own computer and it indicates he may be infected. Again, this should not affect the SHE village at all, but comes at an awful time for dh since he's working flat out plus the packing for the move on Monday. Computer problems are the last thing he needs and he really shouldn't have to be taking the time to learn the ins & outs of this bug while trying to get everything else done.

Waving to you from Sunday

OHHH about the web nasties. Hope there is nothing else missing, and Mr KIC can get back to his needed business with everything intact.

Saturday was taichi, markets, library, then popup shop that disappointed.

Church this morning, and I bought a ticket for a fundraising luncheon so will head out shortly for that. Hoping I can sit with some taichi folk. If not - hoping for some 'inclusive company'.
