WENDING WEDNESDAY

Post by DeeClutter »

Kathryn is wending her way to Nova Scotia -and wishing a good trip and time spent there! Amazing that her duncle is celebrating his 102nd birthday! So glad K&K are getting to go.

The rifle is now in the hands of my great nephew and I'm sure my DDad would be very pleased that his dgreatgs12 now has it. What you said about dh being well liked/respected by my DDad really hit home, FF. I had thought about that myself earlier last night. Don't think I ever even knew he'd given it to him. Most likely would have been my db. My db is also very happy to know that his dgs now has it. It probably hasn't been used in over 30 or 40 years. And FF, no I don't like firearms being around.

Don't remember ever saying yesterday, but I felt very poorly all afternoon. Spent most of the time fighting that icky feeling & bad headache & snoozed a lot in the recliner. I had blood work done in the morning (fasting) and when I went to take my evening meds, I realized I never took all those morning meds. No wonder I didn't feel good. I'm on a diuretic and 2 other blood pressure meds. I quickly took my BP and yep, it was up quite a bit. No wonder I didn't feel good. Within about an hour after taking my meds I felt much better. I also had had no diabetic meds in the morning. Figured my BS would be higher this morning (as we went out to dinner with our dneighbors here) but it was only 79. So I'm happy with that. Have my Dr. appointment at 11:30 so need to get moving on all the other last minute stuff.

Just finished putting up meds for us for 2 weeks -only to realize I'm out of one for dh & I'll have to get it filled today. I plan to go to the post office, on to the Dr's, then to the car dealership to see if I can get oil change coupons with the certificate they gave us (for the $$ we spent on the new tire for a new car! ) Hoping they let me do this as this certificate has to be spent at the dealership. So we'll see. Then I'm off to distant town (25 miles) to do some last minute shopping at W mart.

I'm off and running -wending my way toward being ready by 7a.m. tomorrow!

Good morning! I wanted to pop in and say hi, and I finally have some time to do that. *phew*

My dmom had a heart attack on Thursday - her heart stopped 1-3x, it's not clear to me. An artery on the outside of her heart was blocked, and she had a stent put in within 2 hours of the attack. So, I drove down to Illinois to visit her and ddad Saturday - Monday. I did a little cooking and grocery shopping for ddad. Mom is recovering nicely, and is expected to go home today! I'm just hoping that ddad will be attentive to her needs once she's home. He doesn't hear well - has a hearing aid - and gets tired easily himself. . . He told me on the phone last night that he is fighting off offers of help, that one can be killed by kindness. Hmmm... maybe he will need help? Dbro. is around, but I feel he's not super reliable as he does things that fit into his schedule. Also, he told me that when dmom first had the attack, he immediately asked ddad if the worst happened and dmom didn't make it, when he should move in with him to help him. I was completely flabbergasted by that. First, that is not the time to pose that question. Also, he is a loud talkative person, and his daughter is handicapped and is also loud and difficult at times. They're not peaceful to have around, to put it mildly. They can be rather disruptive. I'm not sure their presence would be helpful to ddad, who is independent and likes his peace and quiet. Dbro. is looking toward selling his house and getting some $$ and then moving into mom and dad's house, which is nicer. ugh! I feel he's being opportunistic. I did suggest to him that ddad would be fine on his own for some years - with a housecleaner, which he and mom do have. Dh's ddad is still living independently in his home, and he is 90 and more frail than ddad. Dbro seemed OK with that input. Family dynamics. It's hard to know what is best for one's parents when they live so far away.

Anyhow, I'm approaching the end of the session at work. I'll have new classes next week. I'm giving the midterm exam this afternoon.

Dd16 is taking the PSAT today. As a typical 3rd child, or maybe typical 3rd child in 4 years, she is the least prepared - and we are the least concerned about it. LOL! It doesn't count for much of anything besides National Merit Scholar status, and we've noticed that some of the top students graduating from our high school go to Ivies without even being NMS semifinalists. The ACT and non-practice SAT - those scores count more toward University acceptance. I think you can choose which scores to report anyway.

So, I'm hoping to get caught up on some things today: laundry and groc. shopping and perhaps other errands. I still need to finalize a game plan for my class to review a bit more before the exam.

I'm sorry I'm not keeping up with you all! I'm glad you felt better after you took the meds, Dee.
I hope K and K have a fabulous trip to NS! Amazing that her uncle is turning 102!

Have to wonder if my BP will still be up today, Helia. Very good to have you pop in by the way. I miss seeing that pup and your green print! Glad your dMom pulled through okay and saying prayers for a whole & quick recovery.

I got up before 6 and tried to lie back down for a bit. Didn't work. Had too much on my mind of last minute things to do. Just finished s2s and getting my toe nails cut. That's a chore at this stage of life. :| Now on to the dishes. I have the bed stripped but decided I'd wash them when I return from shopping this afternoon. Won't feel like I'm in such a crunch then.

Next up is to do the dishes that I never got to yesterday. Still can't believe how badly it affected me not having my morning meds all day! :(

At the diner in NS. Getting up at 5 is totally worth it when it means I am in NS by 9:30.

Really hungry though because we haven't eaten much today. There was no time for the lounge due to long lines at security but we were upgraded so I had tea and fruit on the plane.

Good to hear you've wended your way to NS already, Kathryn! Enjoy breakfast and your visit.

I've finally finished the dishes and got my hair shampooed. Had to take a rest for my back. Now think I'll check out the bedroom to see if there's anything else I need to do in there. I do need to straighten the top of our dresser and bring out a couple of things to pack.

Good morning, villagers ~
I see that last night FelineFriend asked how much rain we've had this week. The only estimate I can find anywhere is 2.5 inches over the past 2 days. I know it was steady both days. However, it is supposed to stop raining and just be cloudy today. Then partly cloudy and chilly Thursday through Sunday, which will be really nice for taking walks out at the campground.

Today is LEGO Club this afternoon at the library. Other than that, I will be concentrating on doing the last of the laundry, and pulling everything together to pack for the 4-day sewing getaway.

(I need to stop calling it a retreat, since I'm on the committee and will be working at least half of the time. That's not really relaxing. It's just doing chores in someone else's house, which admittedly is a break, but not a retreat. :| If I can totally finish 1 of the projects I'm taking, I'll be happy. If no one says anything negative all weekend, I'll be thrilled.)

As usual, the editing is the hardest part. For example, I know I don't need as many spools of thread as are in my bag. I need some minutes in a good light to match the colors to the fabrics I'm taking, and then I can leave all the others at home. I might be able to leave behind some tools as well.

I'm editing the food, too, trying to judge how much is enough to avoid having a lot of leftovers. There will be 11 of us there from 2:30 Thursday through 2:30 Sunday. We are all bringing food to share the cooking and cleaning duties.

Other things I need to do today: charge the battery on my netbook, update the antivirus program, and load a couple files. I hope the wi-fi will be working in the camping lodge, or I will be cut off from email for 4 days. I think I can get cell phone reception from the 2nd floor of the building, otherwise I'll have to drive up a hill somewhere.

(Helia) I'm glad your DMom is recovering nicely.

Hi, Blessedw2! It's good to see you posting more often.

Dee ~ Good you're feeling better, and the icky feeling yesterday was solved by filling in missed meds.

Glad to see Helia wending her way through the village today and hoping her mom recovers fully. Oy, yes, elder issues are far more difficult when one is far away. Helia, my situation is a little different but my dbro does live with dmom, is unemployed and has a SS disability claim underway and pretty much takes care of her to the extent of his ability. She is still up and around, able to bathe and dress and go out occasionally for dr visits. He pretty much preps meals for her (takes them to her instead of asking if she is hungry) and monitors whether she's taking her a.m. meds, which are the more important. She is 87 btw. The situation with the handicapped child would be difficult for your dad, no doubt, and that would be a benefit of assisted living.

I have errands OMM today and prep for a trip to Nashville tomorrow and back on Friday. We are seeing Paul McCartney in concert tomorrow night. I am trying to remain upbeat and gracious, but it just frustrates me that dh can't make this a trip "just for us." Tomorrow night before the concert we are to have dinner with a friend/colleague of his and the wife (will we have to rush to get to the concert then?) and on Friday morning I can sleep late while he meets with a client couple. And before we come back on Friday we are meeting with an elderly lady client - this I don't mind because she is a former member of the temple and just delightful and gracious and will be very proud that we are lunching with her. I've found a dog sitter and need to get with her today, also need to decide what to do re: dcleaning lady on Friday a.m.?

And need to continue with temple financial info for the bank. It feels never ending.

Sooooo...OMM...
-errands
---p/u meals for dmom (JCC closed tomorrow)
---groceries (may put off since we'll be away for most of two days?)
---cleaners
---visit dmom
-temple financial info
-arrangements with dog sitter
-cancel body work I had set up for Friday afternoon, thinking we would be back in time
-figure out whether I want dcleaning lady to come on Friday a.m. and contact her (should talk to house sitter first)
-what else?
