What is your favorite scent? Guess mine is anything to do with vanilla or raspberry.

DD and I soon on our way to see the Mouse. Today will be an EPCOT day.

Expect dh will be here later today. He was definitely quite tired last night. In MHO he'd be better off leaving when he finishes blowing the water lines and just drive 2 or 3 hours -perhaps enough to get to PA and THEN spend 1 night and a 2nd night further down the pike. We're getting too old to make this trip with only 1 overnight.

Hear dd vacuuming the living room (which I never got to this week) so guess I'd better finish dressing. Was waiting for my hair to dry before putting on my top. After all these years doing my hair is still a challenge -but not one I can't live with.

I think all my favorite scents are outside or memory type scents.
1. after my children had there baths and getting ready for bed - I loved when they cuddled while I read them books...that smell.
2. door county woods especially after a rain or early morning (a combination of woods and lake michigan)
3. thanksgiving and christmas (coming into the house and the smell of all the dinner and the family being there)
4. the old coppertone sunscreen (reminds me of summer)

today's goal:
put away saturday including outside things
dusting

I've missed swimming. I'm sleeping so poorly at night that I'm too tired to get up and eat. So by the time I finish eating, plus 30 minutes, it is too late to go swimming. (I have to eat first, now, because of the dang drugs.)

There is a swim lane period at 12 so maybe I'll head for that. I'm normally starving by then (it is the end of my 4 hours of no food) but after I could have Subway since it is in the same mall. I'll keep that at the back of my mind.

I still have to finish the service and sermon. Sigh.... I'm too tired to even think about it.

Thanks for opening the thread, Dee. Favorite scents include lilac, peony, lily of the valley, and fresh-mown grass. Then of course there are vanilla, chocolate, and coffee. Isn't it interesting how scent memory works? Lilac takes me back to the yard of the house where I grew up, lily of the valley was a perfume DMom had when I was little, and a lake or river that smells like fish reminds me of a rare summer vacation in Minnesota when I was about 6 years old.

Yesterday's packing at DMIL's took a lot longer than I had planned. I thought we would just pack her clothes, bathroom, & kitchen items to have ready to load out. DSistersIL were a whirlwind of activity packing and taking bins out until their cars were full. (I can see why DMIL has been getting anxious while they've been packing for her!) Then we let DMIL rest while we went to the new place, unloaded, unpacked and put away that load.

Her apartment is only 1 bedroom instead of the 2 I thought they had described. The bedroom is a nice size, though, large enough for her to have her sewing machine & serger in it as well as all her bedroom furniture. She has a huge walk-in closet, the bathroom is 3 times the size of ours with a full linen closet as well as lots of counter and shelf space, and there is a large coat closet just inside the front door. Her living room is a good size. A DSisIL has already hung decorative items on the walls and a pretty wreath on the door.

The kitchen is tiny because she'll be eating her main meal in the dining room. (The dining room is not a cafeteria, it's a restaurant with small tables and a full menu.) The tiny kitchen means only a teeny amount of counter -- barely enough for a coffee pot and toaster -- and I'm not sure how we're going to fit in both her microwave stand and the big round kitchen table and chairs she insists that she wants. No stove at all, but the refrigerator is full house size rather than a small apartment one.

They gave me a tour of the building and it is a very nice place. Heated pool, several areas to hang out and socialize, small library, and a bar where I'm told they have free happy hour every Thursday at 4. Once she learns where everything is and is comfortable with the building and staff, I think her health will greatly improve there.

DSistersIL keep insisting that she needs to meet a lot of new people, because they are very social and like crowds. She's never been that social, she only needs to meet (or be reunited with) 1 or 2 people that she can sit with at meals and maybe play cards or have a beer and talk about tv shows before she goes back to her place. She doesn't need or want to join a gang. We have heard a rumor that there are several women there who came from the same town DMIL is moving from, hopefully she will already be acquainted with some of them.

Today we will move the last of the furniture that will fit in the apartment, her TV and the personal stuff she uses every day, and food. DMIL will be out having lunch and shopping with one of the DSistersIL. We hope to have everything unpacked and put away before she arrives at the apartment, and then she can tell us if it's too crowded.

Booksaver: my California Ancient lived in a place as you described. She loved it and was there for years (and managed to die there, rather than in a hospital, which I always consider a 'good' death.) She was sociable so it was good for her. The seniors' residence where I preach is almost as nice except they only have very large rooms with no cooking facilities.) My California Ancient loved being able to make things for church pot lucks (she had two burners and good size toaster oven but never had a microwave.) She'd use a crock pot for stews and baked lots of cookies. Like your DMIL had her kitchen table in there - it also served as a desk surface, and a place to put cooling cookies!

We have limited counter space here so have our microwave and counter top oven on a rolling rack. That gives us a place to store additional small appliances like the mixer, crockpot, so the cupboards can be used for food, and the top shelf holds baskets and my tea chest. Not sure if that idea helps you or not. The shelves are adjustable so things are at the right height for me. You can buy half height ones that could be set level with the counter if you wanted something less imposing (mine is about 5.5' high.)

Booksaver, your DMiL's apt. sounds very very nice. I would like to live in such a place myself. I think I could be quite comfortable.

Sat Scent was amusing to me. I just loaded the crock pot with tonight's dinner. I made sauerkraut with pork, and I put it out on the pass through window/shelf on the back porch to keep some of the smell out of the house. I don't mind the odor but it can be overpowering when one walks inside. For the past 6 weeks I've waited to make this because of our small group coming Sunday evenings. I didn't want them coming into that scent! As it was, last week one lady remarked how my house always smelled of something good cooking. Twice I had meals going in the crock pot and both times there were green peppers in it....

I guess I like lavender. DDad grew it up north, and I used to sit on the front stoop and crush the blossoms in my hands and smell it. The bush was right next to the steps. I've tried to grow it (both kinds) multiple times here and have never been able to.

I've spent the morning tieing up loose ends. I sent about 8 emails off. Stopping our small group here (we're through with the series and I need a break now). Emailed the minister in charge of groups, and I suppose DH won't be happy, but oh well, I'm the one does all the cleaning, organizing, etc.

Dinner made. Put some food from refrigerator into freezer containers. Got all yesterday's work out into mailbox. It doesn't sound like much but I've been pretty busy all morning.

I love the scent of roses! I have pumpkin cookig in the oven now so the house smells like pumpkin this morning. I just cleaned out the chicken run so it won'smell.

Next up I will be getting chili in the crock pot so that will be smelling yummy in a bit.

Off to sniff chlorine!

I've finished the sermon. And all the edits on the family Christmas letter. There's a load of laundry washed and in the dryer now, the kitchen floor was swept and the dishwasher running. So, while I'm still in my fuzzy robe and slippers, there has been progress.
