Lots of schools and organizations are celebrating Dr Seuss this week, so I thought I'd take a look at how one of his quotes applies to us. As homemakers, wives, mothers, volunteers, employees, members of organizations and as ourselves, we do the greatest balancing of all. So step with great care today!Step with care and great tact, and remember that Life's a Great Balancing Act.

Re: Monday Balancing Act via Dr. Seuss
I'll have to ask dd if Friday is "Dr. Seuss Day" at her school -imagine so. But I doubt she'll be going. She has Thursday & Friday planned to be off -she has 4 root canals Thursday in New Port Richey -nearly 2 hours from here. Dh is planning to go with her so he can drive back. They plan to leave around 5am -her appointment's at 7. Praying there's no fog!! It's our 'foggy season' here as Harmony & Sunny will attest.
I SLEPT ALL NIGHT!!!
What's up with that?
Feels so good! I've been awake since 5:25 and we finally got up about 7:30. Didn't want to disturb dh if he was resting. Looks like he got bit by something under his eye -it's all swollen and red. Maybe part of what's ailed him this weekend.
Slowly organizing and putting more things away. DD had read sprinkling baking soda over the carpet, let it set overnight and vacuum it a couple of times should remove any residue odor from the water. I keep looking at this room trying to figure out how we'd do that. Will go buy a huge box and start sprinkling away however. We may just have to move a couple pieces of furniture at a time and take a few days to complete the process. So glad this did not happen AFTER dh leaves to go north.
Toying (just TOYING mind you) with the idea of going home later so dd can just make one trip up and not worry about flying back, etc, etc. That would mean June before I could get home -we'll see.

Thanks for the start, Twins!
I'm sure many of us can quote lines from Dr. Seus!
I can still picture The Cat In The Hat illustrations. To me, the messy house was a horror, the tidy one was a breath of fresh air but I never had such a wonderful device to help me go from messy to tidy!
Oooh, segue to my comment to Harriet! HRH's friend is sort of like The Cat In The Hat because he's charming and interesting at first but then things go quickly downhill! My suggestion to you is to make him a member of the family. Start handing him chores (not related to his specialty - simply announce as you push away from the table "I have an important project to work on this evening, and dd has homework, so you menfolk are responsible for cleaning up the kitchen tonight. Thanks!"
I've done that with great success with most of my kids' friends. I love playing hostess and no-one on our friends list has started to irritate me the same way as Harriet is irritated but I'm prepared to make MF my adopted big brother if necessary, although I figure he'll fade away from our lives once he starts dating, we are just a temporary stopping point in his life.
I'm up. Had a reasonable sleep last night but remember dreams which are discomforting to me. Usually I forget them. Or they are too silly to require any thought once awake.
My back is sore. I'm guessing that's from sitting on the wooden pew for most of Saturday and all Friday night. But it will definitely slow me down today. Legs are a bit better but not great (that's from the new shoes.)
I finished February at 82nd place in the Ottawa fitbit club. Currently, because I only did 4K steps yesterday, I'm at 175 for March. What will be, will be this month. There's nothing ordinary about this month. I'll stick with my Lenten commitments but give up my normal monthly fitness goals and simply try to always choose the healthy options throughout the month.

Dee: I'd only toy with staying later if your dh stays later too. It isn't wise for him to be left on his own for too long since he needs someone to remind him to rest.
On the other hand, the way this winter is going, June should be the end of it!
Our forecast is still for a high below freezing. Everyone is commenting that after over a month of deep freeze, our inner sensors are off and the sun and temps in the mid 20s feel like mid to high 30s to us now. Despite a single digit wind chill and a real high of 22, I went for two short walks on Saturday with just an undershirt and cotton sweater. I needed to feel the air and the warmth of the sun on my skin.

Re: Monday Balancing Act via Dr. Seuss
This morning I am balancing between the needs of my two dogs. DMacs has an appt for his annual shots, bloodwork, et al this morning, and Moses continues to limp badly. Moe was actually better Friday-Sat but worse again yesterday and this morning. So I'll talk to the vet while Macs is there and find out what we do next for Moses.
I picked up several Dr Seuss books recently for the the two toddlers who live across our street. Both are adorable, born within a month of each other, and soooo different!
We had a busy, sociable weekend. Out w friends Friday night, dd got home late Friday night, saw her Sat and she was in ATL Sat and home again late Sat night, yesterday we had a young couple over for brunch, spent a little time with dd (dh cleaned out and vacuumed her car for her) and then dinner last night (at favorite Italian restaurant) for dfriend who turned 85 last week and 25 of his closest friends.
So I'm going to enjoy a quiet Monday as much as possible, given the ddog needs and my own needs. Dh bowls tonight so he'll get home late also.
I need to get moving to have Macs at the vet at 10 a.m. first.

Re: Monday Balancing Act via Dr. Seuss
Good morning! A new month / a new week.
I am just about done with last month's bookkeeping, except for a couple spreadsheets. I just had to look up some mileage amounts and total our cash expenditure.
Harriet, it always strikes me how you guys stop your lives for this fellow. Especially you. If life went on around him, perhaps he would get the idea that you guys are pretty busy and perhaps don't have all this time to devote to him. When you constantly stop everything for him, he thinks you have time for all these long extended visits. At least he doesn't ask to stay overnight with you - egads!
I need to go to the post office next. I guess I have an easy schedule today. I should probably try to get ahead with some focus stuff around here.

Good morning!
I was watching Downton last night with some of you. That was a good ending.
Have to share that a family member was traumatized by the cat in the hat book---says he was so worried that the mom would be mad that the cat was messing up the house! Says he would not want to read the book even today.

Elly: I used to have that reaction as well. It seems so grossly unfair that the Cat would make such a mess and leave the children to deal with it on their own. I guess that's the first example of a home invasion!
I've done three easy chores. Now off to s2s and put fresh sheets on the bed.

Re: Monday Balancing Act via Dr. Seuss
Did ask dh about staying longer, Kathryn. He was "MORE" than all for it. (Especially with the winter they've had -hoping Spring doesn't match it.) There are plenty of RV'ers who will nag him to slow down or rest. And I'll be nagging him nightly. DD liked this plan especially since she can go north so much earlier this year. There'd be lots of finagling to get us up there and her car parked in Orlando airport and her flight back -only for her to come north a couple of weeks later. Chances are we weren't going to get out of here before the weekend of May 16th anyway. So -we'll start making plans.
Dh plans to leave here on the 24th of March -after loading the truck he's driving with boxes of bandages for the Congo. Those go to New Windsor, MD -a bit out of his way but not horrible & it's doable. Saves our women probably a good $500 or more in postage.
We were looking for baking soda and dh mentioned the mess the pantry cupboard was in. In looking for the bs, I ended up cleaning that cupboard. Looked in the top of the dishwasher (no longer in use) and discovered there was about an inch of water in the bottom. Who knows how that got there. Dh ran it for a load hoping to freshen it and pump out the water. I'll look again in a while. Evidently in all the cleaning out I've bumped both my arms and have ugly bruising (don't know what else to call it -but the blood pools under the skin & looks plain unsightly). Dh sprinkled the baking soda we found in the closet. We'll let that dry all day and then vacuum it tonight, move things back in there and go on to another section. I should really have the bedroom cleaned out by the time we get all done. Know the pile for charity is ever-growing.
