What are you mending lately?
Is your mending basket overflowing with good intentions?
Do you know where your thimble is?

Have you brought anything back to usable status recently by repairing it?

Can you keep your household thriftier by being a handywoman sometimes, either with needle and thread, hammer and nails, a coat of paint or some other handy-talent? Do you believe in duct tape?

Let us know about the redos and make-dos that make your home hum along!

" ♫ Anything loose or broken, it keeps it in place to stay.
♫ Life is too short to spend it on maintenance. Try duct tape today. "

- Prairie Home Companion lyrics for "The American Duct Tape Council" commercial

It's Closet Focus Week this week, so I'm in there working. Can't help but be aware of clothes that COULD be in my wardrobe if I would hem or mend or sew on buttons! As a matter of fact they've been staring at me as I've tackled closets this week. Mostly hemming, I must admit. Mostly slacks. I do not have a "basket" for mending, but do have a pile, and it's small enough to be in a large-ish basket, so maybe I should make that change, so it looks more socially acceptable!

Dd took too long a stride and further split the split at the back hem of a dress and I sewed that back up for her Tuesday using a ladder-stitch in the same color (black) so she could wear the dress yesterday. Funny how a slight hemline split can look sophisticated, but let it go a few inches higher and suddenly its scandalous. :)

Not really a duct tape person here, although I recognize its abilities. We mistakenly let some get on the paint of a vehicle back in 1992 and man, it took that paint right off. Yipes. Dd has used the new design ones for mending that looks like decorating (tears in backpacks, covering notebook covers that split).

RunKitty, I was tickled to see the new photo of handsome Yukon in Outdoor Spaces and Gardens forum Pet Show and glad you already figured out photo posting.

Yes, I believe in duct tape! It's come to the rescue more than once!

Got up fairly early -before 6 but am moving at a snail's pace. Not quite up to snuff yet today -hoping it'll get better. Just took my B12 (have you had yours today -at least those of you using it?) That may help.

Have to be over to dsisil's about 11 or so. Going to lunch at O live G arden with her and her 2 sisters. It's the birthday of the youngest sister. We go out for each others birthdays and the bill is split 3 ways (treating the one whose birthday month it happens to be). My turn next month.

Talked to dh for a little bit last night. He was out in the 25mph winds all day and 40*. He was cold and tired. They'd fixed one septic tank and had another dug up. (Shaking head here -do we have an icon?) He mentioned that he's throwing out 2 heavy jackets -one from B icknell Racing that he'd had for years and another from when he was helping out at the parking lot at Kod ak. That too has been a lot of years. They're very worn. It was only then I remembered I was supposed to order a 'freezer jacket' for him (for warmth). Ordered one from A mazon last night -just hope it's heavy enough.

Not sure just what happened a few minutes ago -heard a loud noise and the trees shook but I saw nothing or heard anything more. I really don't think it was a train but could have been. Sky's quite cloudy. The Sun 'n Fun is going on in Lakeland this week and bad weather is not good. This becomes the busiest airport during this week. They had one plane crash early in the week =actually came down on a street and hit a boat and both burned -but the pilot walked away. DD and I may go over and watch the air show on Saturday. Know the Thunderbirds are performing as well as another air team from Europe. (They're actually making this their home base for the next 2 years).

DGS15 was on his way (via bus) to St. Louis for the National Robotics Competition. Know he'll have a good time once he gets there -after a very long and boring bus ride. Know he posted once yesterday that they had 15 hours to go. (His Dad told him to stop "whining". :D "You'll have fun when you get there". Right, Dad. (That reminds me -I've been going to tell you for weeks, dHarriet, that he may be coming your way to go to college -still has 2 more years in high school, but his school of choice is an engineering one in the city near you. So may be coming that way and staying a day or 2 if he does that. I was really surprised because he's always said he wanted to go to RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology). That's where his Mom graduated.

Editing: Hmmm....guess it was thunder -it's coming in earnest now. Time to shut down the computer -or at least unplug it from the power.

Good morning! I'm up and s2s much earlier than usual. Haven't done my floor exercises, though. I'll wait until I take and break and watch some Downton Abbey while doing them. After just 5 days I'm noticing great improvement. Putting socks on isn't near as hard (I couldn't pull my leg up onto my other knee in order to reach my foot to put a sock or shoe on.)

No mending here but I did spend a long time with my mending box last week and darned a sock and sewed up some seams. I don't have it out often (I think I've only had it out twice since we moved!) I no longer have a basket to put the clothes in, so they pile up in a well-hidden corner of the bedroom. I have travel things there too and had to shift the pile as I put things back after the trip - that was my motivation to get at it.

The bedroom is in order. I've put a few more things away from the box I emptied yesterday. I really need to go through things more closely and see where things are (and what I've kept.) One of the item was 3 glue sticks and it took me a moment to remember where the glue gun is kept but I found it. We unpacked quickly and while I tried to put things close to where they were in the house, some things were tossed higgly-piggly in boxes at the end and there's no rhyme nor reason where they've ended up.

We also kept a lot of things 'just in case' and, having been here a year, we have a better sense of what we need and will need. Every day or two, I take another item and put it on the give-away shelf downstairs. We've benefited so much from the shelf, I'm glad to be leaving things there. The latest find was the cast iron grill pan which dh is now using for the grilling instead of the one we bought. The 12" vs 10.5" makes a difference. This past week I've left 6 items there. There's a hat on my purse to give away today but that will go with me since we are going into a homeless person area tonight and it will be very cold.

Still need to have breakfast and then get to work.

Hello, Dee, yes I've had my B12. When I read your post I stopped and went back out to the kitchen and took it, then all my meds and vitamins I'd also forgotten. While I was out there I switched out the laundry and hung up a set of sheets. Thanks for getting me started!

I was wondering if the "shake" you experienced was the air show planes practicing - until I read you're having thunder. When we have the air show here, the week before we have lots of sky noise and booms as the planes come in and practice.

I got to sleep in 45 minutes today. No trucks to move. What a difference.

Got some dailies done, got laundry started (doing sheets today and afghans and pillow covers from living room & family room). Dishes done. Letter in mail box. Curled my hair, it's a weird haircut but I don't really care, it's doable and shorter and feels good.

Week or so ago I sewed buttons on a couple flannel shirts for DH. Did that to get the mess out of the dining/sewing room. During my declutter, I threw away 2 bags of work socks with holes. Sometimes ya just have to throw up your hands and let something go that's never going to get done...and lose the guilt. I just gave myself permission to toss something that just sat there and criticized me every time I looked into that closet. Never regretted it once!

Molly's... sorry I don't have your name right in my brain yet...but it's nice to have you posting with us.

Nancy, you're in good company. I've had to reset my Modem 3 times in the last few days.

Hi everyone! While I have not been mending with a thimble, I have made a sink and an electric can opener usable again recently. I still need to fix the door to my garage (on my schedule). More than duct tape, I believe in SUPERGLUE!!! Helps me fix small appliances AND small cuts.

What I got done last night: two errands, garage light bulb, checkbook updated and bills paid, looked up value for auction shawl. I had to transfer $750 from savings this month. How am I ever supposed to afford another car? Got sidetracked by Scrabble. Did not get around to: organize CarQuest data, church webwork, or zone work (put away LOL and change sheets).

I have not figured out everything I need to get done tonight, but I know that DD13 has a band concert and I must get stamps to mail the bills.

Good morning. Slept in again until 6:30. Went running. Breakfast shake and tea.
Thank you, Harriet, for saying that Yukon is handsome. :) He is currently playing with "his" cat. The size discrepancy is ridiculous, but Sasha certainly holds her own. They adore each other.
No mending to do here, but it would be a good idea to go through my closet and remove the never worn items.
Have a great day, everyone.
