These construction weeks have been long weeks for me - sometimes I barely know what day it is.

Today is a chance to finish the week with whatever it is that your soul needs today. Accomplishment for those who feel they haven't put in their best effort yet, a chance to do the things we love most, if you're able to rest on your laurels for a free day.

Good morning!

Twins - thanks for the start today.

DD11 and I are resting on our laurels until 2pm today. We both received c19 booster shot yesterday so we are doing as little as possible for 24 hours. Thankfully neither one of us had a reaction to this shot other than soreness around the shot area. I was expecting a reaction because the other c19 shots made me have fever and feel horrible for 24 hours. However, this time it has been smooth sailing.

We got 1.25" rain last night! The rain was preceded by lots of lightning that caused so many fires that made our skyline fill with flames and smoke. I am so thankful for the many small town volunteer firemen that respond to the fires especially in horrible conditions. When the lightning started setting the fires it was 108 degrees. I can't imagine having to wear fire equipment and fighting fires in that heat.

We have 2 days of temperature being in mid 90's before they return to triple digits. I might have to find a coat! :)

The cleaning lady is coming today. Thankfully I only had the pasta pot to rinse out as it has had water in it for 3 or 4 or... days. Air conditioners are both on, so it's cool in here. Both cats are outside because they don't like the vacuum very much. They used to be okay with it, but now they both run and hide. Dh always cleans the toilet before cleaning lady shows up.

BBQed corn on the cob and zucchini for supper along with hamburger and onions cooked together in the frying pan and macaroni and cheese from a box.

It rained here last night, so the temps feel lower.

To top off my week, we have weekend company - a couple - coming in. I think I expected these guests to cancel or dh to let them know it wasn't convenient, but here we are. They are a couple of hours away from us - moved back in the spring - after being in Tampa FL for several years. Dh doesn't remember the discussion I tried to have with him yesterday a.m. about what we would do for dinner tonight. I'm making an executive decision and we'll either order in, or I'll put together a tray with cheese, crackers, boiled eggs, some veggies and fruit, nuts, and whatever else we have around. I think either would be a better plan than going out after they drive, probably in the rain, to get here.

The crew is here this a.m. LadyM, it is coming together very very slowly. Lots to do yet, and lots of things that can't be done until something else is done. (Patch the floor before island goes into place, countertops before backsplash before undercabinet lighting.) Lots of smaller things that I still need to decide about. Drawer and cabinet pulls, a fan for hood, backsplash (appt next Monday morning). I can't think of what else. I have a paint sample tacked up here too.

I should focus on spiffing up the house a little today. I need breakfast/brunch soon.

I'm so glad you're getting rain, LadyM! And slightly cooler temps too. And Cathy has rain too! We had rain overnight - and today "Locally heavy rain is possible."

Good morning!

I did manage to get most of my cards done yesterday, so yay me!

I was going to post that I hoped you could relax a little today, Twins, but I see that's not the case. I vote for takeout/delivery.

I hope the rain at least helped put down those fires, LadyM. Enjoy your "cool" weather!

Sounds like a tasty dinner, Cathy. What do you do when the cleaning lady comes? I know I would feel awkward, because I'm good at feeling awkward. That, and I have a talent for getting in people's way when I'm trying to get out of it.

It is pleasant here, so I have the air off and the door open. Eventually, DD's computer will get warm, and she will ask to have the air on, but in the meantime, I am enjoying the fresh air. Next up, I am going to clean up my breakfast and do some payroll. I finished a first read-through of the current section yesterday. It is going to take a bit of work. J doesn't use a whole lot of punctuation, so in the technical stuff, it sometimes becomes a bit of a word salad, and I'm left wondering what's a noun, what's a verb, and what's an adjective. Does this modify that? Is this doing that? And a chunk of this section is about circuits, which I'm no good at. Well, that's what questions are for!

I talk to her a bit when she gets here, ask what's new, etc. Before she leaves we might talk again. If she's got anything interesting going on at other jobs, she might mention it. She has me and dh both here, and some jobs she just has a dog or a cat to talk to.

time to clean the bathrooms. woo hoo powder room done.
hoping to see you soon!!!

looked outside and my corn is turning purple - darn - I don't have high acid soil - I will put bone meal on it today and see if that helps.

I keep looking at everything that needs doing instead of what I can actually pay attention to right now. I really have to work on this.

next: vacuum the floors - surface rinse the floors

DDIL called last night to update me on DS48 career. He is at a crossroads and ready for a change. She explained he would either be unemployed, promoted to his lifelong dream job or move to another company. DDIL and DS48 have spent 2 weeks discussing all the possibilities and making plans how they will respond before DS48 initiated his plan. He took a month off work (it is rare for DS48 to take time off. Even when traveling/vacation he continues to work part time). The initial response to his plan of going for his lifelong dream job and it was well received, and verbal offer given, but now they wait until things are confirmed or fall apart. DDIL is willing for DS48 to be unemployed, sell their home and adjust their lifestyle. I'm thankful for her giving him the freedom to be bold & consider all options. The only thing DDIL doesn't want to do is move the family during the next 3 years because of DS15 competitive bike racing team. The verbal offer DS48 received would allow him to work from home (or anywhere). Another company recruiter flew in last night and met IRL with DS48 to discuss what they are offering for DS48 to work at their company. So....we will see what happens.

DDIL is a master at juggling things. DGS15 and DGD12 both have 2 friends staying with them. So DDIL is keeping three 15year old boys and three 12 year old girls busy and fed. The parents will fly in to get the kids and immediately fly back to their homes (Florida) this morning so the activity & noise level in DDIL/DS48 home will be greatly reduced.

DD11 is still sleeping. Decisions. Decisions. Do I wake her in effort to switch to earlier waking hours or let her keep sleeping until her body is ready to wake up? I think I'll let her sleep since we are in low activity mode today.

I'm bored and extra chatty. I need to find something to focus on while I'm sitting here.

Mystery, you may be right about eating out. There's also breakfasts. Dh says he'll cook omelets on the grill one morning but I'm remembering that skillets may be buried in a box.

I'm sweaty. I did some clean up/straighten up upstairs. Realized I used of the pillow (and pillowcase) from guest bedroom when I had COVID, so I finally stripped the day bed in my office and I'm washing those sheets, including the missing pillowcase. The thermostat in my office is at 80, but I seldom turn it down much when I'm at my desk.

I'll celebrate a round of ta das.
-put out new doormat at front door - ordered and came in just as the chaos started here
-watered upstairs plants
-stripped bed, sheets in washer
-picked and arranged zinnias for kitchen and guest bedroom
-picked tomatoes - the plant is dying, perhaps wilt although I see worm or bug holes in some
-emptied a small bookcase in our bedroom and moved to front steps. I'll dust and take upstairs - I found a corner in my office.
-straightened up a little in DR
-ordered zinnia seeds.

Some things still OMM:
-I might try to get a pedicure at one of the walk in places dd and I went to before COVID
-I don't care if I get the day bed made up but must get that pillow case back upstairs
-finish straightening in DR. (The box for the small microwave we bought to use right now is still there)
-grocery store. I'm going to suggest boiled eggs and fruit for breakfast the other morning. You can buy eggs already boiled and peeled.
-what else
-pick hydrangeas to arrange in GR.

The yard people used round up in the area behind our wall where I had volunteer zinnias from deadheading them. I could actually wade into the kudzu and still pick them. So I'll scatter some this fall and have them again last year. And I might scatter in my raised flower bed this fall also. I ended up with almost no bright orange and no light pink and yellow at all this year. I have all pink, a few red that don't seem very prolific and some that are a deep salmon. Trying to think ahead, and next year I'll tell them not to nuke my zinnias.

The garage is horrible today. They are needing to cut cabinet trim and other things and there is sawdust and trash everywhere. I told them we have guests this weekend and they said they would clean up well I'm listening to the talk about what cabinet goes where "No, this is the wrong size for there, it goes over here." I hope they all come out right in the end.

I think I'll get out of here for a bit and try for the pedicure and get groceries.
