Finishing the Month Strong!

I think someone here in the village gave me permission to start the new day any time I wanted to after midnight my time, (CST), so...
mainly I'm starting a new day because I didn't want TWINS to think I had forgotten her!
I wanted to wish you and your family a happy Rosh Hashanna.
Twins, does it really seem like a new year? Do you sorta get that same fresh start feeling that we all do on Jan. 1? I'm just curious, and maybe showing my ignorance, but I just wondered how you celebrate/observe the date beyond the traditional foods and party.

I know I always felt like the beginning of the school year was a new beginning, a sort of "new year" celebration, and it still seems to mark an occasion for me, since the dgrands start and their schedule changes. I guess I'm saying we don't always have to wait till January 1st to get a new start...
and in my topic heading, I am trying to FINISH STRONG for this month, because so far, it has been a mess.
This cough is REALLY getting to me. Still no fever, very infrequent achiness, no real allergy symptoms except the constant cough. And it is something else. Slightly productive but not much, and all secretions are clear. So... ? I don't know WHAT to do. I really don't want to keep asking for antibiotics, although the 5-days on the Z-pack helped at the time... but it's still here... and you know, antibiotics always bring the risk of yeast infections. :?:

Anyway -- we've had a good weekend, but other than being a good grandma, I haven't accomplished much.
Today I did manage to get groceries bought and put away, and emptied the dishwasher, and took the trash to the road.
Plus -- church and dgs' piano lessons.

Thinking of all y'all in the storm path who have a bunch MORE stuff on your plate with prepping for what may or may not actually come your way.
* And of course I am praying that all your extra work turns out to be unnecessary! But it's still got to be nerve-wracking to deal with all this.

Monday for me is going to be laundry day, and getting some computer tasks taken care of -- we have an administrative council meeting tonight and I need to get my notes and roster, etc., in in order.
Also need to work on some stuff from my teacher group,
and I have been procrastinating on transferring pictures from computer for a LOOONNNNGGGG time.
DGS is spending the night again Monday night because dgd has an early appt with eye doctor on Tuesday morning. So I have school drop off duty today and tomorrow.

I am tired, but I do thank God for the wonderful gift we have been given in getting to spend so much time with these little ones. We may be "on call" most of the time, but there's really no one I'd rather spend my time with, and dh feels the same. And they are growing up sooo fast. They do love their parents though, and they were excited to hear from ds when he called tonight on his way home. DDIL was at church this morning, so they had a little time with her today, too. They'll both go home after school tomorrow, and I'll pick up dgs after my meeting at church -- so there's a little "me time" on the schedule for tomorrow. ;)

Hope you ALL have a great week! I hope I'll be asleep again when you read this, LOL!

Good morning!

LucyLee - Thanks for the start today.

I am feeling a heavy cloud of disappointment hanging over me as I deal with the consequences of wrong food choices over the weekend. I need to shake it off and get back on track.

DD11 was running a low-grade fever this morning. My first guess is side effect from getting the flu vaccine. I gave DD11 the option of staying home but she wanted to go to school. I can see progress in DD11 attitude and confidence level which gives me hope for her teenage years.

"Mr 14 year old I know everything" doesn't lack in confidence. He will tackle anything even if he doesn't have a clue. Yesterday he sold a riding lawn mower he was given a few months ago. DS14 is bumping up against the 20 wheel limit we have put on him so that lawn mower sale removes 4 wheels from his collection. I expect he will be hunting for another deal with 4 wheels to bring home.

Today is normal life with the addition of a 2pm IEP meeting. In attendance will be the speech therapist, DD11 home room teacher, the principal and myself. I am expecting a no drama meeting.

DH has left to stay with his DMom. He will be there for the next 24+ hours.

Well like Harmony I am getting ready for the storm.

Only thing left is to stack and secure the furniture on the lanai. Everything else is done. We’ve closed all our storm shutters except the ones on our sliding glass doors. Will hold off till the last moment cause otherwise it would feel I’m in a caves

Not sure what the path is for the storm. We’ll have a better idea at the 11:00am update. I am just few miles north of Ft Myers and Harmony is a few miles north of me. My home is cinder block so I’m not too worried about much damage. Course we could always have roof damage

Update…

Finished the outside and brought a lot of furniture inside. I am comfortable with what we did on the outside.

They are predicting 6-7” of rain with this storm. I find that unusual because in Mobile we received 12-15” during the storm. The update at 11:00 wasn’t much different than this morning. No matter we’re hear to stay. We will be on the East or “dirty side” of the storm. That means the water surge will be strong.

Hello. Lucylee, don't discount your effort to be a good Grandma. That takes a lot of work and the benefits to them are many.

I keep watching the weather reports. They did move it away from hitting directly in the panhandle, but it is supposed to be closer to the coast line and hit Tampa. That might change. We have a lot of bodies of water around us, the whole harbor and Lemon Bay. I'm watching because I don't want to be standing out in rain putting up the panels.

DH is working outside on his grass. Since we're in this wait-and-see, there's not a whole lot to do. It will be a dash to the finish if we have to do stuff. It's uncomfortable living inside a "cave" I hated when we did that with Irma. DH says we have one of those clear poly panels to put up with the metal ones. Those let sunlight in. I don't remember having that, maybe he just bought it after we used them last time? They're still getting information from the 11:00 one. The rain totals depend on how fast the storm moves past us. This storm is supposed to move slowly by.

Even though my study has been cancelled for this Friday I did work on it this morning and got it all caught up so far.

I am in fake it until I make it mode and it is working for me so far. Once I push myself to get moving then it is easier to keep the momentum going. I have 6k steps so far today without any exercise.

I am trying not to go down a rabbit hole with another good algebra curriculum that I am going to use as supplement for concepts that DS14 struggles to conquer. It totally astonishes me that there are so many good curriculums available online and free. My primary selection factor of curriculum is by DS14 learning mode but getting it free is almost unbelievable. I do pay for the main two math curriculums we use but it is because they offer something extra that others don't.

CI bs is better today.
Did not make it to ladies Bible study they are ramping up for the retreat this weekend. Me not planning on that.
I am ok taking a rest day to heal as I am on the mend still.
Lovely weather here today.
Had an extended qt & journaling time.
Revamped a planner for the rest of the year.

Made up some dog crumbles with some left overs.
Those are a hit.

sometimes I can get in here and sometimes I can't - I am going to get my computer checked.

hi d Nancy - glad your bs is better today! glad you are taking time to rest!
yay on working on your planner

hi d Lady - I am so with you on the fake it till you make it. What do they say - Motivation comes with starting not with waiting for the right time.
I am there right now.

we had a bit of a miracle today-a very appreciated miracle - dh helped with dailies!!! it took us so little time bc we worked together.
I mentioned we should do this daily together and I don't think he was as thrilled by that.

I did have to put my foot down re: putting things from he garage into the 3 season room. I had to say that I want a house and not a garage.
I have to admit that I did all the work I did this year to have a home and not a storage shed.

HIs room is getting more and more cluttered but it is neat. - it's a really good sized room with a dressing closet a wash area that you can get dressed in and a bathroom as well.
Dh's mom and dad were the same as dh. - it wasn't clean necessarily but it gave the appearance of put away. it was visually busy - books, cards, knick knacks but with cloths hung up in and outside the closet door (all neat but cluttered). their dresser was filled from one end to the other as well. I remember cleaning out their house and it was one bunch of stuff after another. -

My goal is different - I want my stuff to be so limited that it will be easy for everyone to go through my stuff after I am gone or when we have to move.

next put away clean dishes
clean the sink
remove the dying roses from the flower arrangement from dd younger.
fold up dog bedding
still needed: weekly laundry room clean.
outside work

Well I’m already seeing rain. Looks like we’re going to get close to a direct hit depending on how the storm wiggles. Harmony is facing the same thing. According to the 3:00 update we are on the edge of the cone, but we really won’t know for sure till sometime tomorrow. The storm is suppose to hit starting sometime tomorrow night with the brunt of the storm by 8:00am Wednesday

Most people in my immediate area already have their storm shutters up. This is going to be an interesting ride. I have two plastic Adirondack chairs the we just put in the pool. This is what all our friends do :D

I’m also going to fill a cup up with water and put it in the freezer. After it’s frozen I’ll place a penny on top of it. When I open the freezer after the storm and find the penny in the bottom of the cup, I’ll know my food has spoiled

Leftover soup from last night is on the stove heating slowly.

Dh did the banking today. He added e transfers a few months ago and we stopped using "square", so business banking has become so much easier for us (me).

We had 2 police cars on our driveway this morning. 8-) 8-) When I looked outside there was 1 cop on either side of dh. Thank goodness I knew that 1 was a good customer of ours and another was one of his co-workers. I was expecting them, but I didn't know they were working. I took a couple of pictures to show dd. I asked my friend how much all of his equipment weighed. He said "around 25 pounds".

RRose this is what they do at resorts in Cuba before hurricanes. ALL the deck chairs/loungers go into the pools. I saw a picture from somewhere in the Maritimes yesterday where someone parked their SUV on top of their trampoline. I guess that kept it from blowing away.
