A DFriend shared this with me this morning
Mindset is EVERYTHING!! Learn what your triggers are and how to recognize them!!! I have learned that emotions sneak up on you. It’s important to have a plan in place that helps you not fall back into bad habits. Be strong and be the tiger within.
She had no idea about the plan DD11, counselor and i put together yesterday. When you are struggling with something then having a plan is vital!
DD11 made a 3x5" card that she can hand to teacher and/or youth director. Her card says -
I need a break!
Helpful card for stressful situations that can end really badly for us.
These are the things that this card will let the student do.
1 - Listen to music (max: 5 minutes)
2 - Find a quiet place and sit (Max: 6 minutes)
3 - Take a break. (max: 3 minutes).

My day is off to a good start.
DH left before 7am to go stay with DMIL. DH will be there for the next 30ish hours (until tomorrow noonish). We did discuss the possibility this might be the last time he does this. The hospice staff have started coming more frequently with several visits a day. They are super supportive to the family and ensure DMIL has everything she needs. DMIL doesn't open her eyes or talk and seems to be unaware of anything.
DH meeting with the surgeon yesterday ended with a decision to not do surgery. The surgeon examined DH and gave DH the option to not have surgery. The surgeon explained and discussed alternatives for non-surgery treatment. It was a big relief to hear surgery is not a medical necessity. It is not a life-threatening condition. We have a high confidence level in this surgeon and have known him and his family for decades. We are comfortable with the non-surgery decision.
I am in the process of preparing food to feed 120-150 people tonight. It is a super simple meal (hot dogs, walking tacos, chips, cookies & ice cream). I have browned 10lbs of hamburger meat and added the other ingredients to make chili. It is simmering on crockpot mode in the Instant pot now. That is the hardest part of this meal plan prep. Last time I prepared this meal I took notes, so I have a detailed outline of what to do and a time to do it. My confidence level is high because all I have to do is follow the plan. It will take about 4 hours of my time today.
Homeschool was not fully completed yesterday because I was busy with other things. Now we are playing catchup on homeschool assignments. I have told DS14 that doing school on Friday might be required this week.

chat about packets of something ... desiccants?... -
I noticed one of them had been used in the canister of beet powder I put into smoothies, Dee. I suppose if it is okay for that it's okay for spices. But could you trust one that had been made for shoes? Don't know. Nancy may have something there, with rice - in little pouch of cheesecloth maybe.
chat about housedress/duster
yes I think of these words as the same garments. Like a button-up shirtdress.
That would be too much blood-discoveries for me to be dependably stoic, Kathryn. Glad you were okay.
I also finished a book yesterday, lucylee, and it is very satisfying to do that, yes. This a long non-fiction with citations and index I still want to peruse, though. I had gotten about halfway through and realized it would have been better to mark it up, but I think I could mark in the index some places I'd like to go to quickly.
I also got some notebook labeling done yesterday.
Dd called to flesh out weekend plans that may change on a dime.
Didn't finish the second bathroom here yet so have that to do.
A little bit of Desk Day came up.
HRH has plans for errands I would accompany - we'll see.

I have heard of putting beans in spices. The beans serve the same purpose as rice to regulate the moisture, but beans are larger so don't get lost in the spices. I use rice in my saltshakers. The rice is bigger than the small holes in the top of the saltshaker so only the salt can come out. The holes in my spice bottles are bigger than my saltshakers so if I used rice, it could get out. (if that makes sense)
Baby Stepping my way through today....
I sent an email to the principal explaining the plan written on 3x5" card that DD11 and her counselor created. I asked permission for DD11 to use the card during class if/when she needs it. The principal responded positively and will share the information with DD11 seven teachers.
I sent text messages to the 3 youth leaders/director explaining the 3x5" card and how DD11 will be using it during youth class/activities if she feels the need.
eeek! I looked through the stack of school papers DD11 handed me last night and found she has an Academic Team meeting this afternoon. It is during the time I have planned to cook. So.....I will adjust my cooking plan an hour earlier and take an hour break during the middle of my cooking so I can take DD11 to her meeting. The two events are only about 1/2 mile from each other so travel time isn't a factor.
Homeschool went smoothly and DS14 finished his assignments. He still has some unfinished assignments from yesterday but I'm giving him the rest of the week to accomplish them.
I haven't finished my AM cards yet. I am feeling scattered and easily sidetracked.....which is when SHE cards usage become vital for me.

Hi!
Dh and I sat and talked about what we needed to get done today. It included me reminding him (again) to call his Dr.'s office to request a med be sent to Costco to be filled. Last time they sent it to a closer, more expensive, pharmacy. I called Costco to let them know I needed them to fax Dr.'s office to say they needed this Rx. Dh also needed another 1 filled. So, I need to go to Costco to pick up meds tomorrow. Dh said he needs a case of soda and a case of water. He has 2 almost complete cases of soda. One in each fridge. He also has more than 20 bottles of water from the last case we bought.
We decided to go to a new coffee shop in our tiny town. Almost $14 later, we walked out with a piece of cake for dh, who knows he shouldn't have any cake at all, and a coffee for him and a cappuccino for me. Dh turned on the truck and then proceeded to stay parked while he slowly ate this huge piece of cake and drinking his coffee. He knew I had to go to 2 banks on the way home. When he finished the cake he asked where we were going next. I said home. When we got home, I got into my car and said I was going to the banks and I would go to Costco another day to get the soda. I told him it would take all day to get to Costco and back if he went with me. He didn't remember we were going to Costco. We went to Walmart the other day and he complained that it was too much walking. (We went in, went to the yogurt area and then went to the cashier.)
As much as he thinks he is okay, all of the forgetfulness and inability to walk in large stores bothers me.
He also asked me at least 3 times if I wanted him to cut the grass today, even though we agreed that it was my turn and I would do it this afternoon after the sun dried the grass a bit.
Sigh...
I also got the chest freezer inventoried and tidied up this morning. Not including a lot of ground meat, we have enough meat for just over a month and enough frozen veggies for the entire winter. Dh was fussing this morning that he wanted pork chops and we didn't have any. After the inventory, I told him we had 4 packs of pork chops plus a pork roast. Because he didn't see them on top of everything else, as far as he was concerned, we had none and had to rush out and buy them this morning. I wrote out a detailed list of all the frozen meat for him.
I know this isn't going to get any better as time goes on.

For the second time in a couple of years, I got to watch the fire department put out a burning car in the intersection below me. This time I knew I basically had no time to get photos so my pictures are awful (didn't have time to go for the camera, just had my phone.) It was the siren that notified me of the fire, this time. Last time it was the black smoke going by my window. Firefighters are quick at fire fighting; the guy with the hose had it out before the others had time to put out cones. A car driver had stopped the traffic coming towards car with his car until the truck arrived.
I was going to say that was my morning's entertainment but I note it is afternoon. I'm still not dressed.
I can't see smoke but I can smell it now inside. Should have kept the patio door closed but the room was warm and it didn't smell like smoke when I was outside.
I worked on my next year's Bullet Journal this morning (it started next month), updated this month, made a grocery list, finished wrapped dgs6's gifts, and phoned Bhell to find out why I still don't have fiber optic internet. The guy came 2.5 weeks ago, decided he couldn't do the install, the contractor had to, and now we are waiting on the contractor. I don't have much hope we'll get it this month, or perhaps even this year. The first time the contractor was here to do the install was January 2020. Then again in the spring of 2021 when the fiber optic cable was hung in a coil from the ceiling outside the apartment door and the contractor said he'd be back.....
Now I should go get dressed and then go for groceries. I have to go both today and tomorrow (the sales flip over on Wednesdays.)

Cathy, whine away! We're here for support. A lot of us are dealing with dhs that are getting older. Of course, we're still the same youthful person we were - there's no aging allowed in the village.
It's Yom Kippur - I was at temple for a.m. service and now am home to make kugel to take for break the fast around six p.m. As Reform Jews we don't go until you can see three stars in the sky, thank goodness. Some do a blackout from electronics, phone, TV too but we don't.
---------------
Later, kugel is in the oven, timer going. I need to do a little kitchen clean up, then I'll nap.
Thanks bw2, wouldn't say Yom Kippur is a celebration. I think of it as reminding me that my mind rules the body. I fast, but only to a point. I have black coffee in the morning and sips of water along, and eat if I need to.
