Focused Friday PWYC

Don't think about what can happen in a month. Don't think about what can happen in a year. Just focus on the 24 hours in front of you and do what you can to get closer to where you want to be. Eric Thomas
I saw a visual this a.m. on Facebook. It's 23 days until the time changes (fall back), 41 days to Thanksgiving, 72 to Christmas and 79 to 1 January.

What can you do today?

Dcleaning lady will be here soon, and I need to do that straightening up thing. Quiet day here I hope. Some times upstairs, and services at temple tonight.

Good morning!

My body doesn't understand we are in Fall break mode. It just continues with the same sleep schedule. I woke up at 6am without an alarm and was ready to get started on the day.

DS14 is working a couple of hours this morning before I deliver him to DFriend the hair stylist. DS14 loves having a curly mullet but is frustrated by the knots in his hair. He said, "I use my knife to cut the knots out". I immediately texted DFriend and told her DS14 hair needs her help, so she is fitting him in during her lunch hour today.

The SSecurity office called about DMIL birth date. There has always been a well-known discrepancy between the date DMIL mother said she was born and the date the birth certificate shows. ANYway, we will take the official birth certificate to SS office and hopefully this will settle it.

This afternoon we are going to a car swap/show and a craft fair in a nearby county. I'm looking forward to getting some steps in while looking at the various small vendors display of handmade items.

dUnc had two birthdates. The one he was born on and the date his birth was registered by the priest (who put in that day, not the birth day on the form.)

Towards the end of his life, he made sure to celebrate both of them! I still remember him telling the waitress, "Today is my second 100th birthday!"

Our hair stylist friend had three birthdates. The one the family celebrated, one a few months later, and the one he was given when he immigrated into Canada.

The first was the actual one.

The second was later because you had to register all births within a certain time frame or be fined and his parents hadn't met the deadline so they made up a later date (the same is true for one of our refugees, officially she is 6 months younger than her actual age.)

The third was due to a date format error. His paperwork showed something like 04/05/60, meaning May 4, 1960 but the immigration officer entered it as April 5, 1960. Our friend saw the mistake but was too afraid to correct the error at the time because the officer held so much power over our friend's ability to enter Canada, so he accepted the new birthdate.

Last night I wrote "tomorrow is another day."

"Tomorrow" is shaping up to being the same as yesterday. It is after 10 and I'm still sitting here having done nothing (at least yesterday I started laundry.)

The day is glorious, full sun and lovely colours. I have no excuse.

I did look up volunteering to drive people to the polls on our municipal election day but I can't because I am babysitting at ds's that day and by the time I get home there are only 2 hours left before polls close.

I could do so for the advance polls today but that would be allowing a distraction.

On the other hand, as I wrestle with this distraction, I am doing nothing so, really, if I volunteer, I'd be no further behind. Maybe I'll do so informally just here in the buildings. We had an advance poll here last week, but this week's advance poll is too far to walk and an awkward bus connection, so that might be useful.

Dh and I got out to get groceries early. Now dh is doing an oil change. While he started that, I booked us on a 1 night getaway to a waterpark in Niagara Falls for the "Charity Reaps with Cheap Sleeps" promotion. The only night that wasn't sold out was the Wednesday night. I grabbed it. A lot of the big hotels are available for 5 different nights starting on the Sunday night. Sale started this morning. The first choice of hotel I wanted was completely sold out already. You have to live within the Niagara region to get a room.

Supper tonight will be steak and mushrooms and most likely a yam for dh.

I need to go to the bank on the way to or from knitting later.

Tax return is done. I procrastinated over finishing it and efiling, but it's done and already accepted by the IRS.

Hello d Twins, thank you so much for starting us so thoughtfully - I will definitely try to do this!
for a long time it was hard to think about Fall coming, time changing or Holidays coming until our area got it's first bit of frost. Now the leaves are changing color and it is chilly - and the seasons are yelling at me now to get in the program!

So happy your d cleaning lady is coming soon!!! Enjoy temple services tonight!
yay on taxes

Hello d Lady,
lol oh my gosh - your d sons hair and the knife. I have had that where my hair is so knotted bc of my frizzy hair where I had to take scissors to it. I totally understand. I have knots every day even though I brush my hair 2 -3 times a day. that made me laugh bc I understood lol.
praying the social sec can fix the dates to the correct dates

have fun this afternoon!!!

d Nancy enjoy your free day!!!
how wonderful that you did 11 granny squares!!
waving to you as well!

hello d Kathryn!
oh my goodness - such an interesting story about why your uncle had two dates for his birth!
adorable about his 100th birthdays!!! also interesting about births having to be registered within a certain time frame or you got fined - I can see why they used a later date! fascinating
I am so glad the day is beautiful!
I know that they will understand that you can't drive. It's better to know now and they can work things out.
you will get things done! It doesn't seem like it right this instance but you will! I know!

hi d cathy. I'm glad you and your dh are done with the work you had to do yesterday- it's always harder when you have challenging customers.
enjoy your knitting class.

Hello to all you d ones.
