"Think in Ink" Thursday

Post by Kathryn-in-Canada »

I heard about this poem last night and thought it would make an excellent opening to today's PWYC
To Think In Ink

From time to time
I make it rhyme
But don’t hold that kind of thing against me.

Oh well, what the hell,
So it won’t sell.
What I want to tell
Is what’s on my mind.

‘Taint dishes, ‘taint wishes, it’s thoughts
Flinging by before I die

And to think in ink.

I heard the phrase "think in ink" last night on a podcast where the hosts were discussing keeping a diary and one lamented that he got out of the habit of keeping a physical diary at one point and had switched to a file on his computer and he misses the discipline of the writing and the depth of self-analysis and perspective physically writing a diary gave him. (But he hasn't managed to reclaim that habit...I resemble that remark!)

When the pandemic started, I started a written diary but have not updated it since dh tested positive for Covid. So it is 2 months behind (and was about 2 months behind when I made that entry!) I'll formally close it off on the 3rd anniversary of starting it. It has been useful as a record of my feelings through that time and the fact that I'm not keeping it up is a sign that events and my feelings have stabilized into a new normal, despite the 'groundhog year' feeling of waiting and uncertainty for another open heart surgery possibly in March 2023 after going through that wait and uncertainty and inability to plan anything since we didn't know when the surgery would be from Nov 21 to March 2021. As such, while most of the city has moved beyond masks, we remain masked inside everywhere we go. We can't risk any illness delaying the surgery date.

For 'regular life' the SHE boards have always been my 'diary' and are still useful to look up when something happened. As a result, the much needed archive of the data base hasn't happened. It will some day because we have to upgrade the version of phpBB but I need to have the brain cycles to figure out how to do so while still giving access to the old posts.

As for thinking in ink, I'm guessing why the bullet journal works so well for me.

I continue to jot down notes of things to remember for Sunday and things I have to finish by tonight in order to send out an AGM package of documents.

I was to bed at 11:45 last night and woke up for real at 7:15, holding to my 7.5 hours of sleep seems about right for me pattern. I'm not fully 'raring to go' but I'm not dragging either. I remembered my ADD meds this morning.

So far today, I've done nothing but make the bed, lay out clothes for today (after moving my yesterday clothes from the spare bedroom when I had changed out of them), and my tea and chocolate. Dish drainer is emptied as well.

Dinner for tonight is planned, lunch will likely include bacon, one of the few things dgs1.9 reliably eats. I pick him up by 11 from the hospital parking lot.

It is an "Ice Day" here (or will be, it hasn't started yet and hopefully will start after I'm home) so the school buses are cancelled. That means DC13 will be home alone for most of the day (ds is working a 15 minute walk away, though) but she'll be responsible for her meals as her mom leaves for work at 10:15. Her mom is also bringing overnight things, so if the weather is really bad, she can sleep here instead of driving the hour home. Ds will be home from work at 7:15p.m. so DC doesn't have to be alone overnight.

So I have just under 2 hours to finish this week's house blessing, organize papers, and close up my desk so dgs doesn't get into too much trouble (specifically pulling my laptop down off its stand or breaking my mouse or wireless keyboard.)

Poof!

Thanks for starting us, Kathryn. I'm a 'think in ink' kind of person too, at least for the planner and then writing here, although it's not ink but keyboard generated. I'm trying to knock more things off my to do list for the week. I ended up not getting out at all yesterday. And dh was out until nearly 10 p.m. and I had gone on to bed by then. I got up long enough to ask him to take ddog out before he came to bed.

Today I have my workout at 2, and since I'll be out I'm planning for some other errands.

We have rain again this a.m. and then we're either cloudy or rainy until next Monday. Plan on low productivity and activity for me.

I need a quick s2s then to the grocery store.

Up at 4 today ugh... sigh oh well did my new a m routine tweaks.
That helped. Some journal stuff getting the q's today is how I am thinking in ink.
Luv the movable pages of my planners too that helps.
I am doing a Live Your Dream devotional it has q's on some days but not all.

It is my writing day. at 6:20 I see that dawn is beginning.
I need to mop to finish up my bwp and an inside window & doors.
Sinus flare up the last couple of days.

Last night I learned another way to fix a sewing boo boo without ripping out a seam.
Today hoping to get that top like a binding only thicker I can do it!
So far I've found out about three ways not to do up bags! LOL! Learning as I go.
I am hoping to get these out of the way before starting curtains for the paint room.

I have changed up one of my journals to p. m.
Also putting each in the bookcase now that I've cleared room so journal stacks are not sitting out
so that is good improvement.

Luv the focus of this thread today thanks! K in C.

~~~~waving Hello to all~~~~~~
We had surprise snow yesterday. It wasn't predicted to snow but it happened. We were getting rain most of the day when the temperatures dropped enough to turn into snow. Huge wet snowflakes that melted when they hit the ground for the first hour then they started to accumulate. We arrived at church with no snow and by the time we left 2 hours later we had 2-3 inches of snow everywhere. Vehicles were having trouble getting out of the church parking lot. Many vehicles couldn't get traction to go up even a gentle slope. Several friends ended up sliding into the ditch. I put the SUV in 4-wheel drive and creeped home without any problems. It is currently sunny and will be 55F today so the snow will quickly melt and soon just be a memory.
I am tweaking my eating plan. I am switching to 3 meals and 1 snack instead of 5 snacks and 1 meal. I have set my eating time to be 8:45am, 12:45pm and 5:45pm. I have also returned to logging my food in cronometer. I tend to alternate between tracking everything I eat for a period of time and then take a break from doing the detail tracking.
DD11 has been delivered to public school. Homeschool is underway. 8 assignments are on DS14 calendar to complete today. I will be monitoring and checking his work.
My declutter focus today is on plastic silverware and other take-out supplies. This will be a fairly big declutter/organize/deep clean project. We have too many of these and they aren't being used. They have sat unused for several years so it is time to releasee those supplies and reclaim that space.
My price book item today is rotel tomatoes & green chilies 10oz can. I checked 6 places and the price ranged from .87 to $1.50 per can. Sam's was the winner in the price with the bonus they will deliver for free to my front porch.
menu for today
B: Smoothie
L: Build-a-mountain
D: French toast or leftovers
Onion seeds are coming up. They were planted 8 days ago.
Hi! Up at a decent time today. I really like the poem. Surprised about who wrote it. I'm not a big writer, I tend to get into my head with thoughts if I do much of that. I have had lots of journals and I get to writing in it, then I stop and after a time I look back and do not want to keep all that. This year I found a hard-backed journal with calendar pages per month and each month has 2 extra pages at the beginning, one is a grid and one just blank lined page. I haven't used those yet, but I find them nice to have and I might use them in the future. It's 8 1/2 x 11 with a hard cover and gold spiral binding so it's easy to write in; 3 days per page. I have enough room if I write closer than the lines and write small. I don't like the weekend which has Saturday and Sunday together in one day's space. I see many organizers with this format.
I'm not focusing on lots of feelings about stuff, and my writings read about like what I type here. I find a small to-do list on the weekends helps me a lot, motivating. I hope they keep making this particular book. Even the cover is pretty, a nice blue with flowers all over.
Desk is mostly cleared off, study is done for tomorrow. I need to make my muffins and bread to take tomorrow. And see what's up for the rest of the day. We don't have to be busy every minute of the day, right? I've noticed since I've been doing so much decluttering that it is tidier around here and does seem calmer. I'm loving that!
Running through and waving. Okay, peeking in and waving — I have a cold (thankfully not Covid — I checked), and I’m not running anywhere. I’m less than thrilled that I have to go out and take DC to class. I’d rather have a hot whiskey and lemonade and tuck myself under a blanket. Alas, it’ll have to wait. I hope the rest of you are feeling well!
Round of errands done. New walking shoes with "Power step" inserts, UPS store, post office and grocery. Just need to stop at the drugstore on my way home later. Energy is better than expected today.
I'm mad at myself that I didn't get my Fitbit back on after my shower this a.m. I missed record two laps with the ddog and my errands - and I usually get quite a few steps at the grocery. Should have been checking hourly and then I would have realized.
I figured out that the peanut butter I prefer (no sugar!) was involved in the peanut recall. Hadn't found it at grocery last two times I shopped, so that tells me that WF probably won't have it either and it's not worth a special trip there. I like WF but the parking lot here is always crazy.
I'm having a light snack before I head out for workout. I hope it gets me through. I usually have breakfast late so I'm not that hungry for a lunch when I'm leaving for the workout at 1:30ish, but I'm beyond hungry at 3:30.
Hello to everyone!
I didn't get much of anything done yesterday, and today's not looking good either. Nothing wrong -- just feeling * blah * and lazy, I guess.
We did go to church last night, which was a big accomplishment -- dh had a rough day -- but he is feeling a little better today.
I also did my exercise last night.
Today -- We've been to the post office, drug store, and grocery store -- just quick stops -- MILK being one of them. Just found out, our milk is going bad early PROBABLY because our refrigerator was set WAAAY too low!!! It just hit me today that we should check the temperature dial in there, because several times, dh has had milk go bad in the last month or so. WELL. It was set between 1 & 2, and the "recommended" setting was 3. :shock: NO WONDER.
I don't know how that happened, but will pay more attention to it from now on. The dial is right where you might bump your head if you're reaching in too far.
I also called the library to check my card -- they had a post on FB that a lot of expired cards had been discovered still logging on to the online library. Mine was not one of them.
Tonight dgs has a ballgame and that will determine whether my weekend is spent at College Town or not.
I will try to get a few more ta-das in before we go to the game.
Hope you all have a great day!
PS -- thinking in ink... I was also surprised at the poem by Marilyn Monroe! And like you, Harmony, I sometimes "think in ink" and then think, later, I need to throw all that out. SOMEDAY I'm going to buy a shredder and clean out some stuff.
Tomorrow is another day.
