What Will your Wednesday be?

Good morning SHEville!

Today is W day.

Who will you see?

What part of your routines are working for you?

Where will you go?

When are you planning to take breaks to recharge yourself?

Why are others constantly interrupting us?

(Sorry, I couldn't come up with a positive Why!)

Today is the day I do "wet" jobs, like watering plants and washing floors. I will also take some time and catch up on dishes. There aren't many, but I'm sick of looking at them.

Dh has requested pesto and pasta for his supper. I will heat up a can of sauce to add to my pasta. Very easy meal.

It's gorgeous and sunny here, but that means it's also cold. Plus it's windy. There are 3 bags of burnables piled on top of the washing machine and dh wants to take them to the landfill. I told him that there is sensitive paper work in those bags as well and I would happily put them on the patio under one of the benches until I can burn them. He wants to take some other stuff to the landfill. I don't know what. Tomorrow is garbage day, so it can wait another 24 hours.

Minor update in J&C, actually more of a rant.

I will be seeing dh today, obviously. But I hope to get over to dd's as well, at least to drop off the rain suits for the grands.

A new routine, taking my bedtime vitamins earlier in the evening, seems to be working for me. I've not been up through the night to pee for all but one of the last 5 nights. Last night I dreamt I was up, but wasn't. So even if I'm going to bed too late (actually not if but when) I am still getting long, unbroken, stretches of sleep.

I will be going to the hospital for sure, and possibly dd's and Costco.

Naptime is between 1 & 2, and I will take that time to myself. My later nap yesterday was deep but it also meant I went to bed too late.

As for the why? I'm so frustrated with interruptions and waiting for dh to be released. That's why I love Hay Lake so much. There are no interruptions, my days just flow in response to my body and surroundings: Hungry? eat. Raining? sit and read or nap, Sunny? go sit in the sun if it is during spring/fall, go for a swim in the heat of summer. Bored? read, or sleep, or walk, or watch a video, or just sit and stare at the water and listen to the forest sounds.

Cathy: it is sunny, windy, and chilly here but to get above freezing at some point. Apparently the walking is slippery right now since we had a lot of rain/snow-that-melted-on-contact yesterday and then it froze overnight as a thin layer of ice. Driving is fine and walking will be fine by noon.

I still have a sinus headache but woke up feeling much better this morning than any other morning lately. I also didn't take a decongestant yesterday, nor an antihistamine last night. And I've cut back my melatonin back to 1 mg from 2.5.

Of course, I expect my good sleeps to be blown up when dh arrives home. He'll be in a separate bed but still in the same room as me and will be moving around. Despite me sleeping with a full light-blocking eye mask, I still note his phone being on (and it was on the 7 times I woke up the night before surgery.) As well, he likes to sleep with the blinds open to see the city view when he's up to the bathroom. The parking lot lights reflect into the room, as well as general city light, so the whole apartment is completely navigable without lights on at night, and then the sun comes into our east facing bedroom in the morning. And finally, it took weeks before he could sleep hours at a time after the last surgery and the same seems to be true this time. Last night he figures he got 3 hours sleep, 2x the amount of the night before. He thinks it is the hospital that is disrupting his sleep but I remember he couldn't sleep at home either. Heck, he hasn't had more than 3 hours of sleep in a row for months now. I know, cuz I sleep in the same bed as him and note the time when I wake up to his movements.

There's a chance I'll snore and that will lull him to sleep (that's the effect it has on him.) And if he's disrupting my sleep too much, I'll move to the spare room. Last surgery, I lay with him for about 30 minutes after he went to bed, and again for 30 - 60 minutes in the morning. One goal for having the hospital bed this time was to avoid me having to change beds through the night. So we'll see if this works better. (I'm ingnoring the fact that 1/4 of the bed rental has passed with him still in the hospital.)

The placement of the bed means the blinds (which are vertical, not horizontal) can be set up to block most of the direct light on my side, while still giving him the view of the city lights. Come to think of it, that's something he can't see in the spare bed since the building's design has him looking out at a concrete wall (even though the room itself has an amazing view, the bed can't be positioned to see it.) That is also why the spare bed works so well for me; no light (sun or street lights) shines onto the bed at the head.

I had also started a post, slightly after Kathryn's:

Beware the Ides of March! For more reading, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ides_of_March

In addition to the seer's warming to Caesar, 15 March was a religious holiday and also celebrated the new year. And, for modern tax accountants, it celebrated the end of the first phase of tax season, with the filing (or extension) of corporate tax returns and the transition to individual tax returns until April 15!

And...

I only have a workout today but I need to get myself moving in terms of things to do before we go away - although it's not a long trip away. I do have things that must be done - like getting the upstairs bedroom ready for the neighbor - and things that at this point would be nice to do - like a pedicure. (My feet and toes are pretty bad!) So I need to start those lists.

I've refilled meds, including enough to get me through the trip plus a day. Need to get on with a.m. routine, having breakfast now...

Good Morning, new friends. Kathryn, you talked yourself into some positives there!

I stayed home with a GI bug yesterday, and while I still have some of the symptoms, my energy level is back to normal and I'm going in today, masked. (Yes, I tested for COVID, so far, so good).

I don't want to follow it to the T, but one thing I love about FL is her telling me what to do so I don't have to make it up myself. Somehow that's a little more fun. I'm a good bed maker during the best of times, but my swish and swipe game has been weak for a while. I did it this morning though, because she told me to. :) I've also returned to my habit of cleaning a little of the shower each time I get in. That's something that works for me. :)

Why are others constantly interrupting us? LOL, this is the story of my work life. I'm a school nurse, and just when I get into ANYTHING, along comes someone that I need to respond to right away. I end most days feeling more behind than when I started, and it does really get to me. I know how to set better boundaries around this, I just need to recommit to it!

Bedroom, living room, hall and bathroom have all been swept and washed. I just need to do the kitchen. My washer and dryer are in an alcove in the hallway, and there is a load in the dryer that I need to put away.

Kitchen can wait. Dh had something to eat.

Youngest cat (AKA kitten) followed me around to supervise the sweeping and mopping. One of the older cats took a swipe at the mop when I passed her as well. Other older cat just watched as I walked past her spot in the kitchen.

... laundry is getting "unwrinkled" in the dryer and I will put it away when the dryer buzzes. ... Laundry is all put away. (Just don't look at that pile on the dresser. I need to go through it and decide what I no longer like or wear. )

Dh is in a mood. He's been for a coffee. Then he wanted to do the burning in the back yard even though it's still windy. Then he wanted to know if we had this year's burn permit. Now he's gone to re-new that. Because the last one on the fridge said 2020, he assumed we hadn't had a permit since then. I explained about having to get them online because the town hall was closed to the public in 2021 and 2022. Saw the price from 2020 and asked why it was $40, because he thinks it has always been $10, therefore it should still be $10. because it cost him $10 way back whenever he got one back in the 1990's ... sigh...

I know how to set better boundaries around this, I just need to recommit to it
KimmyAnn - Thanks for sharing this wisdom. It reminded me of some boundaries that I have let slip.

I remember the first time I read Boundaries by Henry Cloud was an eye opener for me.
Boundaries define us. They define what is me and what is not me. A boundary shows me where i end and someone else begins, leading me to a sense of ownership. Knowing what I am to own and taking responsibility for it gives me freedom. Taking responsibility for my life opens up many different options.
Boundaries help us keep the good in and the bad out. Setting boundaries inevitably involves taking responsibility for your choices. You are the one who makes them. You are the one who must live with their consequences. And you are the one who may be keeping yourself from making the choices you could be happy with. We must own our own thoughts and clarify distorted thinking.”
DS14 had a friend spend the night last night. Teenage boys like to eat and act silly. They were up until after 1am playing monopoly and their version of poker. Their version of a poker game involved UNO cards and monopoly money. Both boys were up before 8am. DS14 went to work. His friend went home to sleep more.

I am working on getting all the plates spinning again while still observing spring break and making sure I am taking extra time to relax.

KimmyAnn: I'm glad you feel better today. And keep up with the masking! As you know, but others might not since I learned it first last night, hand sanitizer doesn't work well against norovirus; proper soap and water handwashing is needed. I sanitized 3x yesterday on my way out of the hospital (leaving the ward, before unmasking and disposing of my mask at the building door, and after unmasking) but I also washed my hands when I arrived at Costco since I was planning on eating before shopping. Now I'm really glad I did!

No word yet from dh.

I've managed to get the weekly kitchen chores done and the load of laundry is just finishing in the washer. It is to be hung up to dry. I also dusted the bedroom. To be honest, that was a distraction action - let's follow the bouncing ball:

1. after kitchen chores I moved to the dining table to work on clearing it off

2. The salt & pepper mill was there, it can move to the living room now that dgs has gone home (we watch tv while eating dinner when it is just us.)

3. I had to clean the outside of it first so went to the kitchen, pocketed some items that belong in the bedroom.

4. Put the s&p in the living room, picked up the feather duster from the couch, dusted half of that plus a couple of other items on my way to the bedroom to put away the items from my pocket.

5. dusted the bedroom.

See? Perfectly logical chain of events!!!!

(And in an attempt to remain "on task", the living room still needs dusting, but as I'm still trying to clear off the table, I'm sitting at my desk, to be by the recycle bin, while opening the mail. When the table is done, I can dust both the living room and dining room.) And yet..... here I am posting!)

My day started early as I got up and went to class. It’s cold and dreary here. We stayed home yesterday because Sweetie wanted to work on taxes.

I have a list going for a for a grocery run. Need to return a library book and stop at Kohls for some returns.

The house is in good shape… need to do a quick vacuum in my kitchen and living area down to my entry way. It only takes me 20 minutes or so to do it.
