Tweak Your Tuesday to include *You*

We all have expectations for today. For instance, Lucylee shared:
teacher group at lunch; keep dgd while dgs goes to practice with ds
But I note she also has put aside next Monday as a day in bed. Hopefully she can build enough time for herself into her days between now and then that she won't feel she needs all that rest.

Taking time for ourselves is really important. Don't overlook that.

I think my favourite line from yesterday's posts also came from Lucylee:
At least he's bald now.
Thankfully, I read that between sips of tea so didn't spurt it out over my keyboard!

Sorry to read about your dryer. I only have to dry two loads a week in mine (sheets and towels, everything else is hung on a rack in the bedroom) but when dgs was here I used it without thought and boy, not having it at that time, despite how fast things dry in this Sahara-like apartment, would be a big deal. We were both really sick and it felt like keeping up with laundry was the only thing I could manage well, all thanks to that dryer.

I'm not really awake. I'm zombie posting today.

My illness (likely a cold but now I'm keeping an eye on it) circled around and hit hard again yesterday. I had backed off on the anti-histamines and decongestants and mega doses of vitamin C and it hit me hard yesterday. Yesterday was also 2 days after the birthday party and I was quite physical that day which could lead to sore muscles. Plus I know the TG now has Covid so my psychosomatic power may have pulled me down (I tested negative last night.) But I ached and coughed and felt miserable last night.

I did the Covid test and during the 15 minute wait got the kitchen cleaned up from dinner and the dishwasher started. I then had tea and refilled my vitamin dispensers and then decorated my planner a bit more (I had done the basics in the car but all my stickers, tape, and stencils are in a separate box so I couldn't finish the task.)

I was in bed by 9:30, and then saw every hour on the clock. I had forgotten to take my melatonin so didn't fall back asleep easily when stirred. I think I'll sleep in the spare room tonight. When dh was in the hospital, even with dgs sick, I was getting stretches of 6+ hours a lot of the time. Since dh came home, 3 hours was the longest I've gone. If he puts the head of the bed fully up, he can get out of bed by himself (I had to help him at 3 because he was trying to avoid using it so he wouldn't bother me but I woke up and asked if he needed help.)

He said he had a good night but he was awake almost every time I was awake.

I've taken decongestant and have finished my tea and chocolate. I've done his stretches with him but am not dressed because it is my shower day (and not his) so I'm in my fluffy gown. He asked me to check and I don't have a fever. The bed is made.

My activity today is to go pick up dd and dgs and take him to his therapy (to make adaptations in his routine to help strengthen his body or manage what others his age manage.) I need to hit up a pharmacy and find numbing cream for his blood draw (not today but soon.) Today is in theory his last time because his therapist is moving on and dd doesn't want to work with anyone else until August. I certainly don't agree with this but then, I don't agree with 90% of how she is caring for dgs physically. The blood draw is because he's so skinny and looks anemic.

Anyway, this is far too important to let the cough and exhaustion excuse me from today's responsibilities so I will head out just before noon.

That means I should get going. My cunning plan is to have a nap around 10 for at least an hour. Before then I need to shower, dress, walk with dh, and hopefully get some chores done. Dusting is probably the most important since I don't need dust allergies compounding this cough. Likewise, I'm tossing the flowers (carnations), even though they still look good, cuz they are now 20 days old. Pollen and mould are more of my allergies.

Hi!

Today is a "me" day. I have an appointment at 11:50 to try on my "permanent" dentures, which I have been waiting to do since December. Denturist had her baby, so she was off work for a while, and then dh and I got sick, so other appointments got cancelled. Somehow I got a sore or a cut in my mouth before my last scheduled appointment, but now that's healed, so I'm finally going to test drive the permanent dentures.

After that I need to go to Costco to pick up some iced tea for me.

Then I have the monthly Women's Institute meeting at 1:30, so more time for me.

Today is the first day in the past week that dh hasn't woken me up because he needs me to take him to pick up a customer's vehicle or because he needs to go get groceries "before it's too late" because he hates shopping in crowds.

I also finally finished a 800 plus page biography of Queen Elizabeth II that got a bit boring in the middle, so now I can move on to the next book on my bedside table, which is another James Patterson/Alex Cross book, so I am looking forward to that.

I think I am making soup today with the last of the cabbage and some ground meat.

Harmony: you asked about the farm.

Here's a link to a google maps that includes my home, the farm, and if you know where to look, the community I grew up in.

https://www.google.com/maps/@45.3838315 ... a=!3m1!1e3

Assuming the map opens on your computer the same as on mine, click on the river to dismiss the Carleton University box that comes up and hides my neighbourhood.

You can see how the farm is surrounded by the city. It was originally on the outskirts but the city grew around it. The hospital was originally a sanitorium for TB and was built across the street from the top edge of the farm.

I live up in the Westboro Beach Neighbourhood (look at the river on the top left and you'll see it marked.) I overlook the intersection of the parkway and Island Park Drive that you can see at the top of the map.

The Farm is just over 2 miles away from us. Where I park is at the Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum. There is a tree museum (arboretum) there and also ornamental and wild flower gardens across the road from the parking lot. Or I can just walk along the farm lanes which reminds me a bit of the road LadyMaverick is on. Except I can see apartment towers in the distance!

When I was young, the Central Park neighbourhood (bottom left of map) didn't exist, that was part of the farm and contained the poultry barns. So there was field between our neighbourhood (part of Copeland Park) and my high school, which is now the Walmart you see marked on the map at the very bottom.

Kathryn - Thank you for that peek into places you know so well. There are an endless number of parks nearby! I used to take the grandkids to a different park every week. Some of the parks we visited were small while others were well equipped. We like the adventure of exploring a new park. We used to sit together and draw the sites at the parks. I still have those drawing books containing our no-talent drawings, but I consider them to be treasured memories.

My morning was a bit more hectic than normal, but we got through it without a meltdown (I hope). DD11 needed to be at school earlier than normal because the academic team is traveling an hour away to participate in contest all day with other schools. After I dropped DD11 off (in the dark) I received a text from her saying she couldn't find her team. She was panicking a little because the bus was scheduled to leave in 2 minutes. While driving back to the school I was making phone calls trying to find the location of the academic team. ANYway, it all worked out and DD11 found her group. I just hope DD11 didn't become overwhelmed with emotions on the start of a stressful day.

I have spent over an hour making changes to DS14 homeschool assignments for this week. He finished algebra for the year, and I had planned on switching him to start a Geometry course. However, I changed my mind and started him on a college algebra course instead. I also tweaked his history course and computer technology course. The other subjects will continue using the planned assignments. I am updating his high school transcript as I make these changes.

I am staying busy but feel like I'm all over the place. I haven't finished all the tasks assigned to any of the hourly slots. A few of these....a few of those...repeat..repeat. It has been continual interruptions.

Homeschool is done. We had a moment or two with attitude but DS14 settled down and it passed without a battle.

DH let his blood sugar testing supplies completely run out before he told me. grrrr... I got those supplies ordered and set DH up with a secondary BS testing kit until the supplies come in.

Last night dress shirt shopping with DS14 was a success. He found a couple of Cinch and Ariat shirts that he loves. I tried to order some more of them this morning but had to pause so many times that I walked away from that effort.

I made up a recipe for smothered steaks and cooked two 9x13" pans. I wasn't completely happy with my efforts on the sauce. I knew in my head what I wanted the texture & taste to be, but I couldn't get it exactly right. However, DS14 and DH declare they are the best thing I've ever made.

I do need to be aware that yesterday double trips to the city were draining and it will take some time to get back to my normal. I suspect I'm not having more interruptions than normal, but because I'm not centered they are easily knocking me off my game.

I got home from Costc o too late to get to my W. I. meeting on time, so I've stayed home from that this month again. I got to my denturi st appointment on time, but she was running behind. I would have gotten to W.I. on time if she hadn't been behind. Oh well...

I have my permanent d entures! Yay! The bottoms are easy to keep in. The tops tasted strongly of something that didn't agree with me, so I am rinsing them right now.

We are having spaghetti and meat balls tonight in plain sauce. I found a bag of large meat balls at Co stco, so they are currently in the freezer with some in the sauce already.

Hello to you as well, Blessed. Know you have to be as busy as I'm finding myself with all that our dhs need so many times during the day. I finally did just e-mailed a couple of people up home who have been waiting for me to call with updates. Seems whenever I think of calling something else intervenes or I'm waiting for a call from some office, Dr, lab -you name it. I figured at least with an email I can always stop and start as needed.

Sleep was 'iffy' at best last night. Hate for my sleep to depend on dh not being in the bedroom. Not sure how long I'll stay once he heads home. I talked with the Heart Failure gals today and they managed to change dh's appointment with his cardiologist here. Was supposed to see her the 5th. They got it changed to her one available slot -next Wednesday at 1:30. I know he sees his cardiologist up home on the 4th but at least I might feel a little better about his flying up there in 11 days from now. At least he won't be alone up there. DGS and DGD are both staying with him until DS-A gets back up there.

We finally got the date finalized for the burial of dh's db and his dwife -next Thursday -the 30th. Maybe it's good that DS-A, ddil and DGS10 will be here. They can go with us as they weren't able to be here for the Memorial Service in February. It will be especially meaningful to DGS10 believe it or not. He had developed quite a fondness for this Great Uncle.

Okay -I'm off to bed. Till tomorrow then.....Niters!
