Hello to everyone! I am ready to sit down and stay awhile, and waiting and praying for word from Dee and family. (((Dee)))
I barely recognize myself this afternoon!
DGS did not have piano lessons -- his teacher's daughter was sick and she wanted to get back home earlier -- and dgd had a softball party. Right now they are both at the party, and dgs is fervently hoping he is not the only "big kid" there. I told ds, if he IS, just act like you expected me to come pick him up there, and call me. DS did not really want to take him. Two of the softball players have siblings in dgs' class, so he thinks they will show up; and the parents are playing the kids in a game, so dgs is hoping to get to play.
DDIL is still fighting a stomach virus -- she came home from work early Friday night -- but she plans to work tonight, so I know ds was hoping for a quiet day at their house this afternoon. I told him I'd keep both kids after the party, and dgd and I can go to Wmart then.
Otherwise, in approx 90 minutes after getting home from church, I have
* helped dh get lunch on the table
* eaten
* washed dishes and swept kitchen
* started dishwasher
* checked to see if plant needed water
* checked for trash in my purse
* wiped out refrigerator & restocked cokes
* took allergy shots
* folded & put away laundry that was left on the dryer
* s/s "guest" bath
All that is left for my Sunday misc tasks is to
[ ] refill meds for the week
[ ] go to Wmart
[ ] take trash to road
[ ] empty dishwasher (dh & dgrands will help)
[ ] set up planner for the week
I never get this far along by this time of day on Sundays!
(((Lord & LadyM))) -- hope you both feel better soon!
The counter beside the back door is something of a hot spot around here. I always leave my wallet, keys, glasses, etc, right there. I put my purse on a little corner desk space (actually just another countertop space) right across from it, so this sounds ridiculous when I type it out like that -- but more often than not, I don't take my purse with me, just wallet, keys, glasses, and phone.
The corner desk has the modem sitting on it, a dry erase board, the landline phone, a pencil holder pottery thing that ds made in middle school, and an old mail box from the post office in my grandparents' town. It holds envelopes, paper clips, etc. There are two open shelves above it, and they have quite an assortment of misc stuff there too. And yes, this is the Very First Thing you see when you walk in the door.
The other counter is below hanging cabinets, and runs into the sink, then more cabinets and counter space. First on this counter space is a lazy Susan with bananas in it, a basket where I general put my keys, glasses, and wallet, misc papers underneath the basket, a set of canisters that hold misc non-food items, a few framed pictures of dgrands, and a stack of insurance/medicare records with a basket on top.
We are NOT minimalists around here. I see these pictures of houses where the kitchen is all white & the countertops are totally bare, except for maybe an artfully placed succulent in a artfully styled white crock of some sort... but that just ain't happening around here. I'd be embarrassed to go on telling y'all what else is on our countertops. We are blessed with a LOT of counter space, and we both -- but Sheldon, especially -- have a sort of "out of sight, out of mind" mentality, so we need stuff where we can get to it. ALL dh's meds are on the counter on the other side of the sink, for example.
It
did occur to me, however, while I was washing dishes, that there is really no reason for the insurance & Medicare stuff to be in there by the sink. I never look at it except when dh gets a new lab report online, and at that point, it would be more convenient to have it in here by the computer. Hmmm...
