Mop Up Monday

Good morning!

Today is my heavy housework day, although I'll be skipping most of the heavy stuff since I did that on Thursday, but there are a number of things I need to "mop up" from the weekend. Footsteps to erase, items that came up and need a response, and projects that need to be pulled out and worked on.

What will you be doing today?

First, I'm very proud to know the day of the week so I'm giving myself a star for that!

Second, to mop up from yesterday's PWYC since I disappeared again:

1. Love Cathy's idea of the 'flavour' section of the fridge. And I smirked when I saw her referring to Lea & Perrins since I presume she didn't want to have to look up how to spell worcestershire sauce!

2. I didn't realize the Duchess of Edinborough was visiting. It isn't making the CBC radio news I listen to, a sign of how minor a Royal she is. She is one of my favourites, though, one of the heads-down, work hard ones that were great at supporting the Queen. Bonus, she married into the family as opposed to being raised with that expectation. Good on her.

3. Harriet: I, too, have problems with under 30 naps. I suspect it is a habit that we have to learn. I wonder if you and I shouldn't start a 20 minute nap challenge for 28 days to see if we can develop the skill. When dgs is here, I lie down on the couch with a blanket and an eye cover, but I listen to droning conversation so seldom fully sleep. If I do, it will be for at least 30 - 60 minutes and then I drag for the remainder of his nap, which is usually hours, just stretched out, scrolling on my phone, not truly productive like I would be if I was actually answering emails.

My goals for today are simple:

1. finish updating my bullet journal for this year (I'm 5 weeks into the new journal and appointments are in it but the sections are not updated.) This is a mop-up project as I started it in September and never finished the last little bits of it (classic SHE behaviour.)

2. prep for my Sunday afternoon meeting and send out the agenda.

3. Tidying and dusting.

4. Strip and remake bed, put out fresh towels, do two loads of laundry.

5. Swap out my summer clothes for my winter clothes. This is a fairly simple task that is partly done already. Also do the same for the front hall closet, pulling out the winter coats from the bedroom closet and moving the spring/summer into it, emptying pockets, but also cleaning the front hall closet properly and washing our summer Tilley hats before moving them to the high shelves. (The clothes washing component of this may not be done today.)

6. Try and spend some quality time with dh. We are becoming ships in the night and have different priorities (his is to travel as much as possible, partly because his friends are all overseas; mine is to spend time with my grandchildren and building community around me.) That might mean going to the library with him while he works with the laser cutter.

7. Confirm I'm still preaching on Christmas Eve. The service is 90% done (it was cancelled last year due to weather) so I don't need to start work on it but it would be good to find out if the church still exists as they had sold their building to a wedding company and were just renting it back for services.

There's a mindful meditation group starting up at 10 this morning (hopefully it will become a weekly Monday Meditation group.) Mondays are normally an extremely productive day for me, so interrupting that highly productive day doesn't make sense to me. I try hard to not babysit on Mondays for the same reason.

Good Morning!

Kathryn - Thank you for opening the SHE village today.

I have today's cards laid out. They continue to slowly increase as I add one or two cards on almost a daily basis. The cards cover all aspects of my life. Financial, social, care of home, DS15 and DD12 LifeSkill training, personal care, menu planning are just a few of the categories. When I think of something that I forget/should be doing then I make a card for it. I don't add a card unless it is something that is on my mind. I continue to be amazed at how well the card system is working for our family during this phase of our lives.

Out of the house events today -
7:30 DD12 to school
8:45 DH, DS15 and myself to gym
10:30 DS15 to lesson at music studio
3:30 DD12 from school
There are 13 items on my calendar today but the majority of those are homeschool assignments for DS15.

start a 20 minute nap challenge for 28 days
I would like to be a part of this challenge too. I can't seem to make myself nap. I want to develop that habit.

DH is slow getting around this morning so we are switching the order we are doing things today.
The next 2 hours - homeschool assignments. DS15 doesn't need my hands-on focus most of the time so I will be available but mostly doing cards while he is working on his lessons.
11:00 - music studio appt
12:30 - gym

Random cards finished -
** Make bed
** Empty compost bucket
** refill ice cube trays
** Enjoy my smoothie

Good morning! Thought I made a post yesterday, but I can’t find it. Don’t know if it was lost or just something I intended but didn’t actually do. Didn’t really have news, anyway.

Got to bed early last night, but it didn’t make it any easier to get up this morning. I need to check on the kids; I heard some stirring, but I’ve seen neither downstairs. It’s weird, because they’re adults, so if they want to live all day in their rooms, that’s their prerogative, but as long as they’re home, I don’t want them to sleep all day.

I need to have a sit-down with DC. If they want to be re-admitted to school next semester, they have to prepare their request. If not, they need to be looking for a job.

And there’s the usual house stuff to do. The dishwasher still needs fixing, but that at least has prompted DH to fix the leak in the kitchen sink.

Have a good day, all!

Thank you for starting us, Kathryn, and the "mop up" from yesterday. I had see that the Duchess of Edenborough is in Canada. She is indeed, hardworking, impeccably dressed and behaved. No headlines, altho she had a few missteps early on. An Xitter account I follow reports on her dresses and jewelry, which I enjoy.

I too, do not do 30 minutes naps. When dkids were little, I could fall asleep quickly and sleep just a few minutes and feel refreshed. Maybe a scheduled 20 min nap? It takes awhile for my mind to settle down.
Try and spend some quality time with dh. We are becoming ships in the night and have different priorities
I feel this way also, Kathryn. He wants to be with people and I want to be with books and genealogy.

I love this time change. I was up at 7 promptly and have walked ddog, have second load of laundry going and just need to wash face and brush teeth to be done on a.m. routine. I am going to spend 1 hour right now reviewing and editing. I have body work at 11:30 and will get groceries after that. Was trying to use what we had as long as possible to reduce what had to be switched around with new refrigerator. I've dumped two batches of ice and we're run quite a bit of water through. Getting to the point it's potable.

Good morning. Having some hot cocoa here after a quick two box donation drop off & grocery run. Putting groceries away then turned into a PUPA in several rooms. I got sidetracked looking for a Christmas gift to put with others on the attic. Can't find it in anywhere. I need to clear off the attic table -- the entire surface is covered. It is a storage drop zone in the summer that helps keep the main part of the house neater. The gift wasn't on there.

LadyM, how wonderful that you teach your kids life skills. I wish my parents had done that when I was young. When I moved out friends helped me learn basics like writing a check & doing laundry. I taught myself to cook over time. I remember early on some oil in a pan burst into flames & shot up high -- I was scared the cabinets would catch fire. Luckily I knew to put a lid on it. To this day I don't deep fry anything. When I get a craving for fried chicken I go to K FC ;) . Tastes great, no mess, no cleaning up a greasy pan & oil splattered stove top.

Re: napping -- dh & I used to nap together after lunch, but he always wants to sleep for 45 minutes & that's too long for me. So now he naps alone in the guest room, & if I feel like a nap I set my phone alarm for 30 minutes, giving me 5 to 10 minutes to fall asleep. I used to set the alarm for 20 minutes, but by the time I fell asleep I was only getting about a 10 minute nap which wasn't enough. If I can't fall asleep I'll scroll through my phone until the alarm goes off.

Time change has (surprisingly) been good for me too, Twins, except for meals. We are having earlier meal times, but that's a good thing. Usually it takes me a few days to adjust. I'm off to chop an onion to go with my roast beef sandwich for lunch, & chicken for dinner. Making a new recipe tonight that I think I may have made a variation of years ago. Chicken/Ranch/Bacon/Cheese Crescent Rolls with leftover veggies on the side. Dh is excited about it :)

((dHarmony)) is on my mind so often.

~~~ Waving to everyone. Hope you all have a wonderful day.
Today is National Nacho Day so that is what is on our menu for today. I have a pound of hamburger meat thawing and will soon be prepping the other ingredients.
Random cards finished -
** Pay water bill (monthly)
** Pay DD12 school lunch money. We put $100 on her account every other month.
** Prep for Tuesday trash day (weekly). All trash cans in the house emptied and new bags put into place. Cardboard boxes bagged up and ready to be taken to the road early tomorrow morning. The most used trash cans in the kitchen will be emptied right before taking trash to the road.
** Prepare 6 pages of requested documentation and upload them to vehicle insurance website. I am NOT a happy camper with DH and DS15 buying so many vehicles because they have triggered us to be audited by insurance company.
** Eat deviled eggs. The only way I can get minimum daily choline requirements is by eating eggs or taking a supplement. I choose to eat eggs instead of using supplements.
DH volunteered to take DS15 to his music lesson. They will eat out at a food truck after the lesson.
teach your kids life skills
IMHO this is working best for us by using cards. Before using the cards, I was hit/miss on getting them to do things. It is so much easier just to do things myself instead of giving them the responsibility to do things and follow up to make sure it was done. I don't ask them to do anything that I don't do because I don't want them to feel like I am using them. My goal is to teach them life skills in order for them to be confident and able to successfully live on their own. The amount of life skills details required is a bit mind boggling (IMHO). Today each kid has a card (every 2 weeks) to refill the toilet paper holders in their bathroom. In the past I would restock toilet paper in all bathrooms at the same time, but that means the kids remain unaware of this mundane but necessary task.
Nap challenge a suggestion for those of trying that to use a timer that will ding or go off after the amount of time you want.
Stove clock timer watch a few ideas.
set my phone alarm for 30 minutes, giving me 5 to 10 minutes to fall asleep.
Nancy & Dove - Thank you for the timer suggestion
I'm going to try this starting today (making myself a daily card).
Completed cards -
** Email processed that was received in the past 24 hours
** Get mail from road and process to completion
** Restock toilet paper in my and DH bathrooms
