JOYFUL Saturday PWYC

Lucylee had a JOYFUL evening that she will long remember! We join her in her JOY today. We've seen her ds grow up, marry, have children, and now this wonderful memory of his professional life!

Repeating LadyM's words from last night in J&C:
In the hard times that many are going through it helps me to also see the joys in life. It doesn't take away the heartache, but it does show there are unexpected things in life that will happen and bring joy.
I'm joining her in finding JOY in my life today, whenever and wherever, and however small it might be! I bet there are a lot of small joys all around if we just look for them.

And remembering today also those whose lives have been affected by hurricane Helene this week. We're still getting news of some very bad situations here.

Mom says she is not leaving her house - she was home all day and it's terrible on her water intake and mental health. She says she has a headache. (I am sure, even though she had all her meals and her meds, that she is dehydrated.

She says she is not moving out of her house. Which means she gets worse.

I will let my mom-whisperer daughter work with her. (younger dd)

Good morning!

Well, I was going to post but the phone is sending out bat signals again. Flood waters, shelter locations. Feel obligated to go tell it "okay" to be polite.

bbl - we ourselves are fine, hopeful for all the neighbors. Feeling embarrassed to tell all about us and then see the video/news about those west of us, dear, dear place-names that mean so much to all those who have a soft spot for the Smokies in their hearts.

Did I already say bbl

Hmmm... .. most recently, the road where a dear cousin lives (on relatively high ground I think), which is also the one that accesses the tributary where I was baptized in the river. Rather close to home.

But it's a double message and the one before that is in all caps with new words for the roads we already knew about ... .. LEAVE IMMEDIATELY ! GO NOW ! FLOOD WATERS continue to RISE.

Oh, my ears, I had the phone close to me and it blared again. The next road to us that winds around closer, now on voluntary evacuation. A lot of our school bus route, so these children whose families are pondering evacuation will be classmates of ds' children.

These alerts are being called a new name: "Emergency Alert Extreme". Never have seen that, or capital letters, or exclamation points.

As far as the timing of these sudden rapid-fire series of alerts, I don't know.

Again, we are fine. My family were poor folks and my grandparents bought the cheap rocky hill no one could farm. The church where my membership resides is also at a safe spot, as per generations of lore. Counting down mentally other kinfolk of ours in other directions - they may be frustrated by circumstance, but their actual houses would be clear. Dmil's driveway makes you put the parking brake on, and she's loving being self-sufficient right now, giving advice.

I'm probably not leaving the house again today, bw2, third day in a row! I need to make the rest of the brisket - dh will the brisket I did yesterday and it will go back in the freezer for a few days. May have to do a bit freezer rearrange to handle it but whatever.

[Skippable Vent ahead] UGH. My agenda goes to heck in a handbasket when dh walks in the door, and now he's on edge at me. He came in and started slicing the brisket, made a mess of course, cleaned it up inadequately (IMHO). And reminded me I hadn't taken the other brisket out of the freezer. I started thawing it on the counter and he warned me about my papers on the counter getting wet but I hadn't gotten to that area yet.  So I spilled his coffee that I had moved off the long counter when working on it. (I always do that counter first, and I having to put away things landing there and couldn't even get to the point of wiping it down. [vent done]

So both counters are cleared up now, with a barrier against brisket condensation. DH and I sure don't think alike! (Small joy, it's the differences that make the world go around?)

dd older went over to mom's and gave her tylonel and meds/made her drink water, and had her eat breakfast that I gave dd older for her.
dd younger spoke to mom and agreed with dd older that mom should continue to rest this morning but will pick her up at 3Pm.
(this way we can me sure she gets water)

mom greeted dd older in her top and underwear = this is now the 3rd day in a row that she has slept with her shirt on and then walked around me/girls in her underwear - time to insist on her dressing before coming out of her bedroom. She walked me to the door of her apartment like that and opened the door wide. ("no one can see")
We have a chose, if it doesn't get better, dd's and I take turns sleeping at her house if she doesn't leave for the day or have her sleep here.

my and mom's meds are set up for the week
flip flop laundry
saying a prayer of consistency and balance focus.

next eat lunch
waving ~~~~~~

hello d harriet!
it's good that you talk about how it's going by you at your home! There is a lot of prayers for you and everyone - enough to share. Some people don't have power, some have trees down and others have been hit by flooding hard. I am glad you share!
praying the river goes back to normal fast!
praying for your area! praying for all to be safe!

I love this about your dmil
she's loving being self-sufficient right now, giving advice.

d twins - coffee spilling and moving down the counter, , briskets defrosting and your dh getting in a bit of angst about the brisket - I am glad you vented! Did your dh leave the kitchen :D 8-)
yes it is the differences that add spice to life :D :D :D

hi d Nancy yay on journaling. and glad you have lovely weather.

Hello everyone.

((Twins')) I know the feeling of "I'm getting to it, I'm getting to it" when you have a project underway and someone else sees you "missing" something. If you could be left alone, they have no idea how well you would be doing, lol.

blessed - cold weather is coming so maybe warm layers will more likely be your dmother's choice. Hope you enjoy your afternoon with her.

Having gotten my dcousin on my mind, I simply had to call, since it's just he and his dog. He had just returned from his neighbor's home, where her basement is starting to flood. She is close to the tributary there. He said the water was rushing fast and he counted about 5 logs going by, during each 15-minute period while he was there helping her. He says he couldn't help but think when those logs all catch up with each other, what will that turn into.

Except for his dog Midnight being skittish after the storm, he is fine. His house is closer to the road. He says the dog keeps nervously going out the dog door, getting muddy, then rushing back in, lol. The dog stayed at his heels/feet for a full day during and after the storm. I told him that's what you get for having a smart dog. (This is my dog friend who "talks" to me when I talk to him - he repeats sounds and inflection.)

Made me think of our dogs in the village - they would never track in mud, no, no. :)

Twins..my dear friend lives in Hartford, TN and had been keeping an eye on the dam situation near her. however her home is high up on the mountain so she is safe. My best friend lives in Aiken, SC and she is without power. My other friend who lives there posted information that said due to all the damage, there is a shortage of help and to expect the power to be out for a while. No estimated date given to when it will come back on.

It is raining here as well. Forecast predicts that we will be experience rain, some very heavy, for the next few days. I am now dressed with my jeans and long sleeved shirt. I need to make a grocery run so I am waiting for the rain to let up and will try to dart between the rain drops.

Like Twins husband, Sweetie seems to be snarly again so I am giving him a wide berth. I bugs the tar out of me as I never know whats going to upset him at this point. Glad to know I'm not alone
